St. Thomas thinks that because Christ himself recommends poverty, chastity, and obedience, one should not be distracted about whether or not religious life is an objectively greater good and originates from God. St. Thomas writes: “It is certain that entrance into religious life is a greater good, and the one who doubts about this, insofar as religious life is considered in itself, detracts from Christ, who gave the counsel.”
