There were already lots of Christian's in Lebanon before maronites moved in Lebanon and join them..they were converted by saint Peter plus many moved away from Israel and converted.

If it is supposedly one of the oldest liturgies- why does their rite look like Novus Ordo in Lebanese? Are they not part of the Syriac tradition liturgically? If one looks at a Syriac Orthodox service it is very different! Paul the VI would be chuffed!

How does it look like the NO? The (admittedly bad) art? That’s not part of the liturgy. The fact they receive standing up? Very common in the East. The fact it’s Ad Populum? There are plenty of pre-Vatican II, examples of that. What makes it one of the oldest liturgies is that it is the Liturgy of St. James, used throughout the West Syriac Rite, which we have direct, clear, documentary evidence of, in the 5th century, and tradition dates back to the Apostle St. James, in Jerusalem. I’m pretty sure it has less exterior changes than the Traditional Latin Mass.

@@brandonday7896 didn t saint Peter preached phoenicians, weren t there already christians before maronites moved in ? Didn t Jews convert and left for Lebanon after the destruction of the temple?

Isn’t it true though that the Maronite liturgy underwent reforms and had changes in the rubrics following Vatican II? Why doesn’t the Maronite priest face ad orientem when celebrating Mass? I have to be honest, this sanctuary looks quite ugly and modern like a typical Novus Ordo parish. Very disappointing. I like the Melkite liturgy better.

Sir i am maronite and what you said is just ...wrong
@Triscath4 жыл бұрын
It underwent a few minor changes as it is in full communion with the Holy See in Rome but not as much as other Catholic Churches. Most of the traditional parts of liturgy are well preserved.

@MrMarcvus3 жыл бұрын
@@IMASTERgraal ok your Church is descended from the Syriac liturgical family! If you look at the Syriac Orthodox liturgies - which your traditional rite descends from- they look nothing like the Novus Ordo of your new rite! Unfortunately the Maronites as much as the Chaldeans, have lost much of their heritage! There are many Maronite people who wish to return back to the traditional liturgy!
