Great video Jason, love the quality and customer service Diode Dynamics offers. I plan on upgrading to the SS3 Max fog lights as well. They seem to have a new Amber backlight feature in the latest generation SS3 that I'm interested in seeing.

*_*SIGH*_* .... Yes, they came out with the backlight version just after I made this video. Ain't that the way it goes? I am going to PRI in a couple of weeks and will check them out in person. Thinking about upgrading. What do you think?

@@InJasonsGarage From what I can tell, they were at SEMA unveiling the new SS5 a few weeks ago and I believe they low-key released the new SS3 version then as well. They have a video on their channel showing the backlight feature on the SS5 at SEMA and it looks like it's RGB as it can change colours. I was originally going to order the SS3 Pro fogs for my F150 early 2020, but was told to hold off by my DD rep as they were working on releasing the Max version. I love that they're always innovating and upgrading, but it does suck for the consumers that purchase not knowing, and then see they have an outdated model shortly after. I always want the best and by the looks of it, the SS3 Max with the combo lens is the best of the best for my fog light housings. If I were you, I'd probably just stick with the SS3 Max, as purchasing a new set just to get the backlight feature may not be worth the additional cost. From what I've read, they're planning on shipping the new backlit SS3 pods by January 2022! I'm looking forward to them forsure, even though my SLF fogs are bright, these are by far the best! Also, I love my SL1 headlights! And cheers brother, I'm always working on small engine or truck stuff here!

​@@EliminatorPerformance I just got back from PRI, and had a nice talk with my contact at DD. If you want to wait for the latest and greatest, you won't ever end up buying anything. They definitely aren't slowing down. I am likely going to buy new versions of the SS3 Pro max with the amber backlighting. I kinda like it. I also have a 3D printer on the way...I might explore the idea of making a bracket that will allow me to use the SS5 in my factory fog area. 😬 I know it is overkill, but I just want to see if I can do it. Heehee...

Love the ss3s. Even the standard version is plenty bright for cars on regular roads.

Okay I need to tell you what happened to me about a year ago. I have 2000 Toyota Camry LE that was given to me by my cousin. It was his father's Camry. I bought led headlights that were 4000 lumens a piece. It was night on the highway I had on my brights a car past me on the other highway. I forgot to turn off my brights. Next thing I knew I was being pulled over. The state trooper said my led headlights were illegal. So I had to change them. I found some led headlights that interested me. They have no fan. They also work with my DRL's. They're the Oracle lighting V Series. The company says they are street legal. I hope so. The only thing they're not as bright as my other led headlights were. They take some getting use too. I live in Kentucky we're not aloud to have different colors headlights only white or yellow. We can't have red or blue led lights in the cabin either. You can get a fine here. So I'm doing everything I want in cool white or white leds. All I have to do is my dashboard, console, ac/heater, and glove box. I bought Sylvania Zevo Super Bright LEDs. They're really bright. I'm happy with them. You don't want your led headlights to bright or you'll be pulled over by a police officer. I watch your videos when you have them on.

Why would you put a flood/driving combo in the fog light location and not a fog light? Seems like the flood would blind oncoming cars.

Oh, it most *definitely* would blind oncoming drivers. However, on my truck the fog lights don't turn on with the headlights automatically. That's why I specified that the lens I am using is for off-road use only. In other words, not normal driving.

Hi Jason, I've had good luck with Diode Dynamics and think you've hit the nail on the head by opting for their products. However, personally not exactly a huge fan of Luxeon ZES style chipsets for headlight bulbs - including the SL-1's. They just don't focus the beam well enough in reflectors and partially scatter the output. The best LED bulbs on the market that retain near-OEM pattern most efficiently are the SV-4 (and some of its clones), and Morimoto 2Stroke 3.0 (the one with the Osram Oslon chips).

for an f150 what would you consider, the morimoto 2 stroke, gtr ultra 2 or the sl1 diode dynamics? these 3 are what im looking for to replace my halogen in my 23 stx. these halogen lights are terrible . im not looking for the brightest but just anything better than stock that doesn't blind oncoming traffic

That's a tough call. I think these are great if you want OEM quality and longevity. But the 2-stroke is indeed one great light. There's also cost to consider, the Morimoto is much more expensive.

Someone is selling me SS3 max. Is there any markings on the pod stating if it’s the sport, pro or the max? How can I tell I’m actually getting the max version?

Yes, there is a sticker on them that shows the version, it is by the plug and mine say MAX. In fact, I am selling the very set that I reviewed in this video. They look brand new, only had them on for 5,000 miles before I sold the truck. Email [e-mail] if you are interested.

I think the best lens is the one you need to get the job done. 😀 I chose the combo because I thought it might be the best for my use...but your use might be different. What kind of driving do you do?

@@InJasonsGarage well mostly in the city and rural areas , but some areas have very poor to no light at all. It seems that the combo lenses is a really good cuz it shine light out infront and around like a fog light does.

@@yimwf Yep, combo is probably good for your needs then as they are similar to mine. One thing...you probably already know this, but don't leave them on all the time or you will blind oncoming traffic.

Not for the headlights. The SL1 is a great light (especially in terms of engineering and quality) but the OEM projector housings are not great and I really needed even more firepower at times. I was running the Saber ProX 55W Accu/V2 ever since I made this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKHEaH6tf5dpaKM. However, since I tested the Hikari Titanova on my other channel (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYLXg5mLjpV_bLc), I am going to switch to that for a while. Also see this video on my other channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j37bfZuHqdx1bas I am hoping that Diode Dynamics comes out with a new LED headlight upgrade sooner or later.

@@InJasonsGarage I currently have the auxito m3 I think thanks to your review lol i just really like DD products as my Colorado is fitted with basically everything else from them and I like the idea of them running so much cooler and 5700k color. What did you not like about the sl1?

@@codyberger2762 It is not that I didn't like the SL1, it is a GREAT light, but the Colorado projectors are rather terrible, and I felt that for my driving location, I needed something with more power.

@@InJasonsGarage yeah I’ve been pretty disappointed in the Colorado projector output. Sitting next to a few other cars it’s definitely not up to par. Been looking at the Coplus headlight assemblies and actually placed a order last night. Hoping for better output etc. led bulbs were okay but left a lot to be desired for me due to the decreased output overtime on my commute.

Regarding the fogs, what beam pattern did you end up installing? If the one you demonstrated, it'll blind people when used as a regular fog light due to being a flood/high beam.

I did indeed install the set I demonstrated. However, I don't use them during regular driving and my fog lights do not automatically turn on when the vehicle is running. And yes, it would most definitely blind people. You know me, I always advocate responsible and respectful driving. 👍
