@@simplemechanics246 It depends. I could see it working in a marginal situation. Where you have low crank. So I can't say never. I'd be comfortable with infrequently. Maybe almost never? There is a reason why they make fleet chargers. This ain't one of those either.

@@1pcfred "The missing amps" can the battery recover within minutes, if the situation is very-very close call. That 2500A amps peak may can get once just for picosecond, right before the magic smoke. By super cap, it is 100% possible but need at least 4 rows caps like on my video to reach 2500A. I used only 1 row for 1l car and it consumes these amps around 1 second. Funny things is that, it is possible to start the car by same energy what contains on single AA battery. It does not mean you can boost 1.5V up to 14V. It is just impossible, too big losses. On the same time you can "measure" 1 single AA battery "capacity" and use power analyzer for charging the caps. I did it and it works just barely...
@1pcfred3 жыл бұрын
@@simplemechanics246 you do not need 2,500 Amps to turn a car engine over. Boost is just 50 amps. Often that along with whatever you may have in the vehicle's battery is enough.
@simplemechanics2463 жыл бұрын
@@1pcfred I never had 8 liter motor but 1liter engine peak can be 400-600A. That kind of booster does not have any boosting capabilities if you do not count 5VDC to 15VDC voltage conversion for boosting. Yes it is "voltage boosting" but not anywhere to useful level. Entire youtube is full about 12VDC cordless battery car boosting videos. Only these people does not understand the modern 12CDC cordless battery is only 10.8VDC nominal voltages. It is really sad to see how millions of people really belive that garbage. If you living on abandoned island and you have 2 healthy but under 12VDC battery, yes it can charge 1 battery by "sucking" other battery. For that you must use the USB input, because only there is the DC to DC booster. Car booster output is directly soldered to internal battery.... no any boosting option there.... only sharing.... Show to me any car owner who have even 2 seconds to wait. No, they crank until the starter burns down.

@@windshield11 I was also thinking about that. I doubt most of these devices will handle 600 amps for much longer than the supercap bank anyway, before overheating, haha. And 2500... Maybe that's the theoretical max of what the cells can put out if they are shorted when fully charged - but just the resistance in the cables, connections and the components inside that protection box on the cable, will limit the current to way less than that, at 15 V. Those boxes are quite impressive, but the manufacturers indeed push the numbers to make it look more impressive (as with many other products). No cars will need nearly that much current to start either (not even 7 or 8 liter engines) - so it may still work perfect with less than 1000 A output and most people will assume the numbers are correct, haha

I wonder how much it would cost if I wanted to ship you some thing? I have a lot of excess test equipment, I’ve accumulated mountains of the stuff. when I got started the only way I could afford professional quality high end gear was to buy broken or untested equipment and repair it myself. As I got better and build a fully stocked lab… (with Mostly NIST traceable calibrated equipment)… I didn’t have to look for gear any longer. But It started finding me. Because After a few years of looking.... everyone knew that I wanted the stuff so they would tell me about sales and auctions and things. I’v bought entire pallets of hp and tektronix equipment and stuff like that for pennies on the dollar. A lot of it is nice good calibrated equipment… mostly from government auctions in my local area. I live in an area with huge government industry and a big history of government involvement. Nuclear and otherwise. Home of the atom bomb.... So there are storage units and warehouses full of test gear all over our tri-state area. So I’m always looking at auctions just for fun. But most of it just not worth selling on eBay because of the shipping cost. It’s not worth selling a $400 scope if it’s going to cost $200 to ship it and there’s a good chance it will get broke. Then you have 12% eBay fees on top. So I would be interested in sending you some pieces. Especially if there are things in particular you would like to have or upgrade some of the things you already use. Just not sure how much shipping would cost and the cheapest way I could get it there. Another one of my buddies owns an industrial scrap yard, they’re always bringing beautiful industrial electronics, motor controllers, and every type of industrial electronics toy you can imagine in that place. A lot of medical stuff to like x-ray machines, even scored a few surgical lasers. If you want some stuff for teardown I could ship you a bucket load of the stuff if I knew a cheap way to get it there safe and in a timely manner. I salvage what I can but they’re not open to the public, and I’m only allowed in there because he’s my buddy. BUT I CANT KEEP EVERYTHING … I tried that for a few years and it almost ruined my life. It’s hard to watch a $2500 industrial motor drive get crushed… But I can only do so much. I can’t keep everything so I have to watch him crush thousands of pounds of beautiful like new industrial electronics every month.

I am always amazed that tiny cells like those manage to start any car, but they do :-D The weak point is the battery clips, very crappy and minimal surface contact. A frend had a similar unit with those clips, the plastic melted on one side because the other side was not actually connected to anything!! :-( I fixed the melted side and added a thick copper loop cable so both sides did something. (on both clips). Sorry but your cat is loverly :-D
@WolferAlpha3 жыл бұрын
This GA8Z6A is a transistor and not an IC, the identification labels on the board help to identify which type of component goes in place, this PCB identifies ICs as U and transistors as Q. Probably due to the connections it makes, it should be used to disconnect the USB buck regulators in case of an overload or simply to turn them on when pressing the button.

I'm not sure which brand of one my boss has but i was surprised when it started his truck with a 460 V8. Turn the key and it groaned... click, click click. Hooked up this little battery pack and it cranked right over and started right up. Sounded just like the regular battery crankin it over. Not sure how many cranks you'd get, but the pack said it went from 100% to 98% from about 5 seconds of cranking. Still though, the amount of power they can pack into those lithium cells is just staggering when a battery pack about the size of a couple cigarette packs can start a truck and it usually takes a huge lead acid battery.

Those output cable inside look awfully thin to carry 2000 amps. Think how thick your jumper cables are. Of course the whole lead length is much shorter so maybe OK? When I have dead battery I get a good battery hook it up with jumper cables . NO electronics required. All the electronics in the unit just to regulate the charging and the accessory outputs.

The cables are very short and also the peak current only happens very shortly, so the cables don't overheat. But they probably still drop a significant voltage at this current. But also the internal resistance of the batteries could be a problem. Maybe the 2500A rating is measured in a short circuit (no useful voltage at the output). Who knows....
