Sometimes burning land actually burn the nutrients out of the soil. 😊 additionally as mentioned crop rotation is very important in maintaining fertility in the soil.

I am so happy that I came across your comment. I have actually asked Shan to try convince her not to burn the land. It is an old practice that is hard to die out, but it is one that is devastating to the land. Some people don't know that the soil is alive and that it is that life that makes the plants grow and thrive. By burning the land you kill those life forms and what little nutrients that is left, is only good for one season or two. That is why big farmers turn to synthetic fertilizers. Another bad practice is leaving the land bare. I noticed that rural farmers seems to like their farms looking clean like their yard. Leaving the land without covering helps to dry out the land quickly and will allow your farm to fail if the rain doesn't come. Leaving the leaves on the ground adds cover to the soil and will also break down into organic fertilizer that will feed your plants, and also acts as a sponge to hold water on the soil longer. Please help to spread the word to those out there that will hear. Blessings.
