When she sings "My love is stronger than the universe" the world stops turning for a moment. :o A few weeks ago I heard a (recorded) live concert with Dionne on Radio, she was fabulous!

I saw an interview with Barry and he said that when he asked Dionne about doing this song she said no. He said she repeatedly told him no but he kept asking. Finally she said yes and it turned out to be a #1 hit. Thank you Barry for your persistence. This is a beautiful song and I can't imagine anyone else singing it.
@oldsoul_anth2432 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I dunno where you have heard it but she already had a rack of number 1 hits in Adult Contemporary and R&B charts way before Heartbreaker. In fact, Heartbreaker never reached number 1 in Billboard's Hot 100.

@@oldsoul_anth243 you know I can't remember where I read that or watched that interview and of course I can't find it now. ☹ I did Google her #1 hits and you're right. And the highest Heartbraker ranked in the US was #10. I sure wish I could find that interview.

@@theresalacey6126 No worries. I mean you were right about Ms. Warwick turning this song down for several times until they finally convinced her. Ms. Dionne Warwick is one of the Bee Gees' idols and that they decided to create this song for her. As well, believe it or not, Ms. Warwick initially turned down her biggest hits, Then Came You (her first Billboard Hot 100 number 1), Do You Know the Way to San Jose and Heartbreaker.

One of my all time fav songs. I just read this today on Wiki: Maurice Gibb, who was a co-writer of this song commented, "I cried my eyes out after we wrote it. I drove home and thought, 'We should be doing this one', and when she did it, it was brilliant. We sang on it, and it still became like a duet between the Bee Gees and Dionne Warwick". Warwick admitted in The Billboard Book of Number One Adult Contemporary Hits by Wesley Hyatt that she was not fond of "Heartbreaker" (regarding the song's international popularity, she quipped, "I cried all the way to the bank"), but recorded it because she trusted the Bee Gees' judgment that it would be a hit. It turned out to be Dionne's most successful solo hit of the 1980s.

Linda...linda...simplesmente linda demais.

Written specifically for her by Barry Gibb, she turned it down 3 times, Barry finally after visiting her in person talked her into doing it. It wound up being her biggest hit. Barry Gibb is a national treasure that don't get the credit for being the musical genius that he is.

Mudasser Naeem Mian. 100% completely agree with you there. If you grew up with this music as a schoolkid, it's powerful music like this that MADE you pick up an instrument & start learning Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, George Benson, Rita Cooledge, Orleans, Little River Band, Michael Martin Murphy, Seals & Crofts, England Dan & John Ford Coley, Al Green. . . just to name a few. The list goes on. The gentle, ever-compelling Soft Rock of the 70's & 80's: more than just a time & place. A positive attitude & unique mode-of-mind unlike anything since. May we all continue to have cooler heads & warmer hearts, nourished by this music 'Cause music like that really does make you a better person, if only you listen. A lifetime of peace, of positivity, & goodwill

This song is pure genius songwriting, the lyrics, the melody, it's pure perfection. Dionne Warwick sings it perfectly too. No wailing (Adele), no shouting ( Adele), no vocal acrobatics(Mariah Carey), like you hear from female singers today.
@federicoraggio2526 жыл бұрын
itsonelouder eleven Vocal acrobatics aren't a bad thing, they show insane vocal abilities and agility. Dionne is just a different type of voice. Mariah on the other hand is known for being able to create magic with her inhuman melismas and octave jumps, she's not The SongBird Supreme and one of if not the Greatest Vocalist Of All Time for no reason. And Mariah is not a female singer "of today", she belongs to the old generation of Legends.
