Chemist here! Traditional acrylic and dip are both acrylics but they are chemically slightly different, dip is actually a little stronger and it is typically found in a finer grain!

@@knoname1092 I have really thin nails and I can say that the acetone needed to remove these products isn't thin nail friendly. That doesn't mean that you can't use these things, though! Limit your exposure to acetone by properly removing your nails when you do a whole soak off by first filing as much product as possible or by using peel base. If you use two coats of a pink or clear dip powder under peel off, you can just take the color off and fill the base. The powders themselves are pretty gentle on the nails and give me hard nails for once and that's why I love them.

Just did my first dip…I got an allergy while going to a “reputable” salon. I really feel they were a bit sloppy and when I engaged the techs about this it was not received well….and I got a horrid reaction over time. To both acrylic and then gel, so I found you and dip…I am thrilled. I am not prone to allergies otherwise, but I am afraid to use anything but low odor by a window with a filter and a mask 😂🤣. …but so far so good. My nails feel perfect and look great. Learning a lot here on how to perfect it. Couldn’t be happier. Hope I don’t develop an allergy to the ‘liquids’ if that is even possible. 😬. I have never had allergy issues to anything in my life…so it was a scary, and I spent months growing out healthy natural nails again and deciding whether or not to try to try dip for strength. I work closely with people in my business and use my hands a lot and want my nails to look nice. Thanks for all the information. I want to do this right. ☺️. New subscriber here.

For me, the shape of the natural nail also seems to affect lifting. Some of my fingers have flatter shapes, and those lift WAY more often than the ones with more average curvature. I don't think there's any fix for this other than being extra careful about all the other things that affect adhesion. I'm hoping the dip method will help. I get much less lifting with gel nails, probably because gel flexes under downward pressure instead of levering. I have gel-x on right now, so I haven't tried it on myself yet, but I've been practicing on swatch sticks, and your advice has been really helpful so far. Also: I'm so glad Sparkle & Co is getting some love! Christy's video was my first intro to dip way back in 2014. Her powders are more expensive than most brands, so I buy my common colors elsewhere, but her specialty dips are FABULOUS, and the quality is top notch.

Keep them on your nail surface or against each other for support 3- avoid caffeine shakes 4- make sure you’ve eaten 5- pick up the liquid with your dominant hand and transfer to non-dom. That might help you to be more consistent with your application 6- practice! When you swatch, use your non-dom hand! Hope that’s helpful!!

1 tip I have is to keep the speed low. I rarely go above 2 on my e-file when I'm working on anything on my natural nails as I'm very much a beginner in using it. After I'm better at it I may start going a bit higher with the speed.

What do you mean by a foundation? Thanks for the informative video, loved it!🥰
@MarlaKris3 жыл бұрын
Essentially, that’s my canvas. I put all my dip nail colors and art over that. But that’s only bc I change my manis often and use peel base. Not everyone needs that “foundation”. Your naked nail can just as well be your foundation!

I'm new at builder gel did you mention you have a video? My nails are so weak and short. Also when you say overlay what do you mean using the dip?
@MarlaKris3 жыл бұрын
Hey girl! So for weak nails, I’d recommend acrylic over builder. Gel typically doesn’t adhere well to weak nails. I’ll link the video tho! Overlay=on the natural nail. My protective layer. That’s all!

Oh so that explains why the builder gel is popping off. I'll go back to my dipping until my nails grow out. I have such bad split nails. And I'm assuming acrylic is the same as dip correct? Also any suggestions to help strengthen my nails? Sorry for all the questions. I'm only 1 year into doing my own nails. When I went to the salon my nails was always longer and healthy. Love all your videos especially this one with you taking the time explaining. Would love to see more of these types. And...lol what about a nail desk setup video. 😉

What is the longest time peel base has lasted for you? Or could last?
@MarlaKris Жыл бұрын
Totally depends on the person and water exposure. I can get maybe a couple days.
@crystald3655 Жыл бұрын
It depends there's techniques for applying peel base that can have them last about a week for some people sometimes more depending on what they're doing. Wearing gloves while washing dishes and cleaning can help them last a bit longer.

Question for ya! I’ve gotten into dip top more lately. Is it possible to do nail art with paint pens and apply dip top coat over it? Or should I use gel if I’m doing any nail art?
@MarlaKris3 жыл бұрын
You might have to encapsulate the art with clear dip bc it doesn’t wash off with alcohol, so I wouldn’t apply activator to it.

How long do your nails last with a peel base?
@MarlaKris Жыл бұрын
Peel base reacts different for everyone depending on body chemistry, water exposure, etc but for me, 2-3 days tops

Great video, as usual!💞 Have you ever tried Dipalicious' 100/180 file/pink nail buffer? It is a total ge changer for me! It is super easy to use, firm enough to file a very straight edge, but also curved to shape your apex with BG. It buffs so smoothly, too...I think it is totally worth checking out...I tried 2, and just ordered the big pack!🤗

I’ll have to check that one out! Thanks girl!! 💙

Where do u get them from? Is it from their own website or can I find them somewhere else?
@cindyandrews31852 жыл бұрын
You started to say when addressing activator, that in filing you were getting chunks coming off. That is what happened to me today using peel base for first time. What am I doing wrong??
@MarlaKris2 жыл бұрын
Probably nothing! Peel base can lift super easily especially if you have a more oily nail type so that may have been the issue.

My dip gets hard instantly & I can’t use an orange stick to get it off my cuticles. This is before I even use activator... do you recommend a brand of base that will give me time to remove the dip by my cuticles.
@MarlaKris3 жыл бұрын
That can happen sometimes. I find the best way to combat this is to know your liquids. If you need a slower setting base, try mani boss or Dipalicious. I found them both to be slower setting.

Love this video!! So helpful! Just wanted to clarify, do you do builder gel on your natural nail and then have the pink dip powder layer over that? Or vice versa? And if builder gel is under the dip, how do you keep your pink dip layer on when you take your other dip color off? Also, you had in one of your videos about building your apex with clear dip powder. Do you remember which video it was? 🙏🏻😅
@MarlaKris3 жыл бұрын
Hey girlie! The pink base I have on my nails is acrylic (dip). No gel in this video at all! And I use the peel base to remove the dip I put on top of the pink base. It’s merely a protective layer I use when I’m using peel base to avoid damage to my natural nails!
