IMO the background music is distracting AF, and totally unneccessary. Consider ditching it in future productions. And if/when using music, here are a few helpful tips: 1. Avoid music with high dynamic range. Just like background vocals in a music production, compressing the shit outta them, works well. Otherwise it will feel as if some parts and elements are inaudble, while others “poke out”. In case of this video’s background track, the snare pokes out, and becomes a distracting transient, interfering with the consonants of your speech. The brain goes like “whaaat?” because intelligibility depends on the consonants to “shape” / “frame” the vowels. Think about it this way: without the consonants, the vowel sounds would be like “anuearuaamsayii” (“can you hear what I’m saying?” in a quickly improvised, phonetic’ish example). On a related note: it’s easier to read and hear what words mean, when their vowels are removed than if the consonants are removed. Often used stylistically: f.e. “tmrrw” (or even: tmrw) vs “ooo” (yes, that’s the word “tomorrow” without consonants. With percussion from the background track poking through, the brain gets a bit confused, as it has to sort on-the-fly: what’s percussion and what’s consonants. 2. Use music with little to no elements that resemble the human voice, in any way, shape or form. Especially frequency spectrum wise. And if there is such a sound: attenuate it with an EQ, aggressively. A dynamic EQ will work well, further compressing the track’s dynamic range, as said above. That’s some fab advice from your friendly neighborhood high-functioning au(dio)tist 🤗 Appreciate the content, btw! 🙏
