Commerce occupations belong to all-program EE draws with high CRS cutoffs (500 or more). Alternatively, find a province with PNP for your occupation. There are two types of PNP: base PNP and enhanced PNP. Base PNP uses the province's point system and matrix; no Express Entry filing is required. Enhanced PNP requires Express entry filing; once PNP is granted, you receive 600 additional CRS points.

"Attendant for persons with disabilities, home support worker, live-in caregiver, personal care attendant 44101" is not a prioritized health occupation. Similarly for ECE. However, they are prioritized occupations under some PNP's. You need find the right province.

It is very tight for PR because 1 yr study = 1 yr PGWP. Look for a province with good PR for your occupation. For example, New Brunswick Student Connect Express Entry Program.

University of Alberta is No. 4th university in Canada. Software developer is an in-demand occupation. It is a prioritized STEM occupation announced by IRCC in 2023; it qualifies for STEM category Express Entry draws with lower CRS cutoffs for ITA. You can apply for PNP at the same time. Just maintain your CGPA above 3 out of 4 so you can get interviews after graduation.

Most people attend universities to get their Bachelor degrees, not colleges. This is a new program. This program has the blessing of PEO (Professional Engineers Ontario). Your son can become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the future. Engineer is a regulated profession in Canada.

The most important thing is to maintain sufficiently high Cumulative Grade Point Average (minimum 3 out of 4) to get job interviews after graduation. Conestoga is not well known among employers so he needs good CGPA to land interviews. This came from personal experience. I graduated from McGill engineering; some engineering classmates worked as car salesmen and waiters because of low CGPA.
