I appreciate it a lot. I would love to get back into posting vids. They would probably not be game commentaries (at least not right away) since I'm getting ready to start my comprehensive exam phases (in my PhD program). I'm hopeful that I'll have time soon to finish up my series on basic opening strategies for each country.

Triumvir412 alright cool, what are you getting your PhD in? Anyway I hope you come back soon, your videos are why I've gotten good at diplomacy.

Working on a PhD in New Testament / Early Christianity. Glad the videos have helped your game. That's why I started making them. Best of luck as you keep playing.

Is there any way I can ask you for advice? I've just started a game as Turkey and Russia did not submit any moves in the spring of 01 and neither did Austria but both players came back in the fall, missing a crucial turn. I had contacted Russia in the pre game telling him we should move mostly west and not attack each other. I moved Ank to Bla expecting to be bounced and the standard Con to Bul and Smy to Con. But to my surprise, I found myself in the Black Sea and receiving a worried message from Russia. I told him things were all good and that I was expecting him to move Sev to Bla on the move that he missed, expecting a bounce. As a result, I decided to go for a 3 center opening year by moving my fleet Bla to Rum and doing Bul to Gre and Con to Bul. First time I'm ever in that situation and it's pretty awkward. Russia has submitted conflicting orders. He has gone for 2 units up north but moved to the black sea as well as War to Gal. Austria has moved into Serbia and Albania but Italy has entered Tyr and his Rom army moving to Venice, possibly threatening Vie and Tri. The Russian Gal unit is also one move away from entering Vie and Bud but is unsupported (of course Vie and Bud are obv vacant). So the question is how do I ensure a successful follow up to that? Also, completely unrelated but how on Earth on does one further capitalise on a France back stab of England in 1902, convoying an Iberian unit to Liverpool (through MAO and NAO) when England is busy in the North? Oh and I love your videos by the way.

It's a fascinating scenario, but I feel compelled to ask before I offer any sort of suggestion: is this an ongoing game (on webdiplomacy or elsewhere)? I ask because I really don't like talking about games that are in progress (lest I, a non-player, influence the outcome).

Italy can be a really powerful country to play as if you get a successful backstab on Austria. Working with Russia also yields you success as Italy. It would be really nice to see more videos of you playing as Italy.

Jason Papoutsis As with any country, it's hard to say what will and what will not bring success. A good stab on Austria does eliminate the largest threat (proximity-wise) to Italian expansion. Beyond that, it's difficult to say much. As to playing more games as Italy...I can't say that prospect excites me. :)

+Triumvir412 Welll, I've played as Italy before, and as I mentioned the Russian support/alliance is very powerful. With a Russian/Italian attack on Austria-Hungary, you can actually divide the territory quickly and then "collapse" on Turkey later on. I had a lot of success doing that.

Jason Papoutsis That is a valid strategy but, like any other strategy, depends on the other nations involved doing what they promise they will do. I'm glad you've had success with that particular strategy as Italy. That's definitely more than I can say about my own games as Italy...
