It's the exact same as Planetfall which is the exact same as AoW3 with the addition of casus belli/grievances a la Stellaris. Don't expect too much.
@ChristIsKingPhilosophy Жыл бұрын
Mechanically speaking, it's not a viable strategy, it's just a minor annoyance that makes you need to crunch numbers to see if it is meaningful or not at a specific threshold. AoW is not a franchise known for having a deep grasp of the mechanical aspects of a competitive game, that's why most of it is played against AI, since PvP always eventually creates a meta where most of these aspects are sidelined in favor of a meta which mostly ignores them or always picks the same stance towards them. It's a game philosophy issue.
@morelstrike Жыл бұрын
@@ChristIsKingPhilosophy I mean, that's every PvP game in a nutshell, people are going to find least RP friendly way to play if it is going to give them an advantage.
@ChristIsKingPhilosophy Жыл бұрын
@@morelstrike Sure, I agree, my point was that different games have different thresholds which make specific mechanics more meaningful within the game. For example, hard roguelikes (which are PvE) are so focused on certain aspects that it makes the mechanics themselves have more relevance (like for example the potions in Slay the spire). Since the resource at stake is our time and our mental energy, when the threshold is very small and the advantage is small it stops mattering when compared to other aspects of the game. In AoW3 a lot of specializations weren't viable to play competetively. The RP aspect only matters when it's already guaranteed that you will win regardless, which is contrary to competitive gaming (which is an important aspect of truly strategic games).

Its a series that's been around since 1999. Civ came out in 1991. Who knows what's deritivate, but everything that you're seeing in this video has existed since the first AoW installment in some capacity, but AoW4 has added more depth and layers to the concepts.

It's entirely normal for game studios to incorporate ideas/systems from other games in their genres. It doesn't really matter who thought of it first, as long as it makes the game better and is implemented well.

So there is now a good reason not to immediately integrating a free city into your empire if you want their units. But I will still play as druidic barbarian elves who are way too trigger happy when someone enters their bushes and forests.

For all of the videos I've seen on AoW4; the bias on the alignment seems to be the thing I disagree with the most. Evil receiving +10% negative events seems kinda bull, for a system that's supposed to be more about roleplaying. You already get punished for being evil by everyone hating you, from free cities to empires; so why does the game's RNG have to be biased against you? It kinda kills the roleplaying aspect to know that the game feels so hard inclined to make you play as a good character. It's kinda cheap that you'll just arbitrarily have more plagues or earthquakes or something purely for being evil. It makes me feel less inclined to recreate my necromancer or any of my other evil characters here.
@L4sz10 Жыл бұрын
I think negative events are like scheming, rebellions and such, not necessarily natural disasters. Devs also confirmed that Good alignment choices are more expensive in resources. So there is a balance, evil is more about short term gain but long term consequences, while good is about sacrificing short term goals for long term gains.

Notice evil got better combat perk
@Cowkill Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. It was already the case in previous games and there was no point in being evil because it was just a handicap.
@dawatchng Жыл бұрын
I think they mentioned that neutral cities and rulers will like those of similar alighment, so you should in theory be more able to recruit evil minor cities more easily if you go that route.
@anonyme4881 Жыл бұрын
If its for balance keep in mind that being evil let you probably do way more things in general. Like unjustified war, or stealing ressource from people as we saw in the event presented here exemple. In fact evil people can do whatever they want while good is locked behind good things. Good may hate you but if they doesnt have any casus belli they cant declare ware. If you played dnd playing as good character IS in fact very hard to doo if you really think through and you arent doing the "goody two shoes cliche". For exemple a good character in dnd shouldnt kill goblin on sight in dnd but should try to tall first. Also we didnt see any the alightment technology bonus. Also in many 4x game war is broken like in civ6 were it is the easier way to win the game even in deity difficulty. We didnt see the full mecanics, but why bother for many many turn with vassaling a free city when you can take it by force and get its full value on turn one ?

i was hoping for some diplomatic options for evil aligned characters that that let you coerce citys into an alliance without the use of actual War. that Battling is all that evil characters can do is kind of boring and stale. Also, making more negative events because you play evil .Really? Shouldnt both sides be equally beneficial and fun in a sttrategy game with options to roleplay? At least in this game it seems that you will have better diplomatic standing with other evil Leaders when you share an alignment, wich seems to be an improvement.

1,312.8 hours in Age of Wonders Planet-Fall, I've only ever beaten "new planets" twice on max difficulty using Diplomacy. Warmongering and Covert-Ops a bunch, Diplomacy in Age of Wonders Planet-Fall was really underwhelming in comparison to Covert-Ops and Warmongering so I hope Triumph Studios balances the three in AoW 4. I'd honestly like them to go back to AoW PF and balance the game.

No they got replaced by the rally of the lieges mechanic. Some heroes will have traits to let you recruit those dwelling units, and some are tied to tomes, but they don't have their own cities anymore. We will be getting more dragon stuff though. The first DLC is going to be dragon focused, including having a dragon as an option for your faction ruler.

They're using the term "liege" backwards here. "Liege" describes the lord who is owed allegiance, not the vassals who owe it. So describing your vassals as "Lieges" is nonsensical.
