Great video. I always used grey electrical boxes, that said, the price for those is out of sight now. This will work fine.

Great video - thanks for uploading. I've made several dipoles in the past few months (2) 10m and a 40m. As my design improves I appreciate the center piece you featured here. I plan on adding this as my antennas evolve. Thank you - 73

Good video. I noticed that you soldered the center conductor to the center of the SO-239, then you soldered the second wire for the braided portion of the coax to the plate of the SO-239. Just curious, would it have been a bit more secure if the second wire was soldered to one of the four screws/nuts instead of the plate? Just asking because I was curious as to how the second solder joint held up after use. 73! Gary, KB5AEB

Ah! I found half inch plexiglas. And cut it in to rectangles. Got so much it will last me the rest of my life time. So when I install my dipoles I set the wire then coat the joins with liquid tape. Dry? Pull her up and on the air. Tks Fer the show de kv4li

Thank you for the video. What size (inner diameter) PVC pipe did you use? Seems to be a very tight fit of the SO-239 into the bottom piece. Did you have to grind off the corners of the S-239 to get it to fit into the PVC end cap? 73
@TimTools99
@TimTools99 2 жыл бұрын
Gosh ... I don't know the diameter...I went to the hardware store and just found fittings that would work. Yes, you may need to grind off the corners to get the 239 to fit.

Can you provide the drill bit sizes that you did in this video? Thanks
@wildweasel6898

It's going to depend on the wire you choose for the pass throughs and also the size of the mounting holes on your adapter and the bolts you choose. I would just go to the hardware store and find out what bolts fit your adapter best and look up what size but they need by their stated size on the package. I usually just eyeball it. If you want a more permanent center insulator I recommend using silicone glue on all the holes. Wipe off any glue that gets on the UHF threads. The standard UHF hole should be pretty close to 5/8ths. G'luck

Could I used this same dimension for a TRC-485 CB radio in my home, as a base station?
@TimTools99
@TimTools99 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you could make a dipole antenna and use it for CB radio. CB antennas are usually verticals though but you could try it and see how it works. This center insulator will work on any wire antenna where you are connecting coax for a feedline. Just make sure you cut your wires the right length.

Ps I use a beer can to wind a choke, at the terminator. Then use a wire tie to hold coil near and use a UV safe zip tie to relive the stress on pl259. Once again my liquid tape at the ready . To seal up the plug

metal base must go on outside, otherwise the screw thread is too short for pl259

Hint: Using your step bit, enlarge the hole just enough to accommodate the outer screw-on sleeve of the PL-259.

So how much do you think your project cost?
@lawrencethompson465
@lawrencethompson465 3 жыл бұрын
I made one for a “horse fence” antenna seven years ago. Got the PVC and hardware at Home Depot. Already had the SO 239. I think cost was about $7.00, give or take a few cents. Was worth the time and effort. This is a good and helpful video.

WRONG WAY. NEVER USE STEEL PARTS. They are extremely lossy. Antenna connections must be SOLDERED not mechanically connected bc RF causes extreme oxidation and corrosion. .NEVER twist the antenna wires at the feedpoint, that does bad things to the fields.
