Ya know, I find it fun and little depressing to the think about all the kids I used to hang out with when i was younger, specifically the ones I knew because I just met them at chunk e cheese and decided to hang out with them because my best friend left early. It was so easy to just play with some random kid. Now I wonder we’re that random kid is today. @SlotMachineGun777 don't do it to be good, do it to have fun, or because you like something/find it interesting to you. it's not as important how other people perceive what you're doing, or to be able to do things in a conventional way. if you end up caring about something, and continue with it, your creations will be 100% quality. it may sound cliché but it's true!

It's... hard to listen to this song sometimes. On one hand, its tune holds pleasant memories of my childhood, where I would see both grandparents and my grand uncle regularly, I had lots of friends that I saw every day in school and out, and I felt disconnected from the many problems of the world. However, it also reminds me of how long gone those days are. How many of my old friends have moved away after college, how my grandparents and grand uncle aren't with us anymore, and every time I turn on the TV or open my web browser there's just more depressing stories of how cruel the world can be. I listen to this and wonder if I'll ever know that kind of joy and peace again.
@carboyCA
@carboyCA Жыл бұрын
Everyone's experience is different but here's what happened to me. In small moments I do feel that kind of joy and peace but they are fleeting. Which is sad except what you get as a replacement is a more complicated happiness. It isn't pure, it isn't binary, and it sure isn't simple. But that's the joy; the more you develop the more you are able to experience unnamed feelings, unique and/or niche happinesses, undescribable moments. Like when you watched a movie as a kid and you enjoyed it because it was funny and interesting to watch. But when you return to it as an adult you understand the themes, character's motivations, metamorphoses, etc. The happiness you felt as a kid is happiness designed for a kid. So that simply means you must find your happiness as an adult, (or teenager depending on where you're at). And adult happiness is not the unconditional nirvana, but the ability to dive very, very deep into the many worlds that everything, everything, has. For me at least. May peace be with your grandparents and uncle.

Let me be honest: You won't know that kind of joy and peace again. But you will know a different kind. And it will be just as beautiful, just as powerful, as the feelings you once felt, only different. In some cases your new joy and peace will even be better, because now you're old enough to appreciate it.

The day I finally beat Super Mario 64 for the first time was on September 22nd, 2020. My first time playing it as part of the 3D All Stars collection. I was so happy, and I was living with my grandma at the time. Unfortunately, that day would be the last day I'd see her alive, as she would be taken to the emergency room, only to die the next day from a fatal heart attack. This song was one of my favorite songs from Super Mario 64. And every time I play it, I remember my grandmother. Maybe she's swimming in Dire Dire Docks in the afterlife...

It's amazing how consistently nostalgic these things feel for so many of us, early nights out in shopping centers, excited about the small stuff, there's a purity in these feelings that is so distant and yet so close, comfortable and welcoming, like a memory in which you just barely can't quite get the details right. I remember playing Wii and Ps2 games at my grandma's house, things like even being in high-school seemed like ages into the future, I could look at teenagers and think of them as fully grown adults, KZbin was so simple and so much easier to enjoy, overall I could just live and not worry about what the future holds. I was truly in the moment, and so now my life becomes all a big chase to have this feeling once again. Maybe I'm wrong in trying to chase it, maybe the only way to achieve this again is to just let go, but it's hard to tell. Who knows.

When I was a kid I would wish to be able to breathe underwater the sun doesn't burn you there, everything sounds calmer, including the otherwise loud people talking near the pool or the sea, everything feels lighter, you're not bound to walk or jump, you can go wherever you want, and it's nice and soothing feeling the currents all around you almost like an escape from the real world, one where you can be one with the void and get a break from the noisy exterior we've made for ourselves

It isn't just the pleasant music that I have liked since I played the game in 1997. I get a strange sensation listening to this. It takes me back to childhood. But in both a safe and melancholy way. Something of loneliness, but also that of full company. I am told I was a pretty wild kid, but when I dream about moments from my youth. It feels like they're materialized as this very song. In those flashbacks, it seems I don't have a voice, only perspective. If that makes sense. Veiweing my family and environments in silence from my younger pov. Despite the actuality of those times not being silent. The feeling is so hard to describe with words, but this perfectly encapsulates what I feel. It's almost as if im longing to go back to simpler times and never grow up. Though that feeling of inescable fate as time moves forward still lingers. It all feels so somber yet it brings me an eerie joy. Of course it's all familiar. It happened to me, but it feels warmer, or as if I'm experiencing it all for the first time. The good and bad things. When I was a toddler I played Mario 64. My dad had introduced it to me. While I wasn't very good at the game, I had lots of fun. I'll never forget the level where you collect red coins underwater while this plays in the background. I remember loving the song so much that I spent a good while just swimming through over and over again. I remember my step-mom sitting beside me watching quietly with her hand on my back. I felt so happy. This song brings that memory back to me. Fast forward years later to high school. I had a swimming unit. I wasn't a good swimmer so I stayed in the beginners section for the entirety of the unit. My teacher told me I was a fine swimmer, but I was too scared and anxious about going to the deep side of this large pool. Until one Friday when we had freetime, I decided to join some friends who were diving. It was only allowed on the far end of the pool where it was 20ft or so deep. Somehow I mustered up the courage to swim there and then try a dive. I'll never forget my first jump into the deep water. A loud entry of splashes until I went to the bottom and then... silence. My eyes were closed when I jumped in and I never open my eyes underwater, but I'm glad I did this time. As I'm swimming up to the surface, it's quiet. Nothing and no one in sight due to the depth. Except for the dark blue of the water and the light at the top. Almost exactly like the picture in the thumbnail. No sounds of the other students or teachers. Only the muffled water and my faint heartbeat. Me slowly drifting to the top with calm strokes. Until I eventually get closer to the light and emerge to do it all again. It was so peaceful. I felt so much grace. And I don't know why. But I love the way it felt in the moment. Just floating in a gelatin of water feeling weightless, yet being heavy was so surreal. I recall that moment often. This song and thumbnail adds to that nostalgia. Honestly that moment underwater was as if I had died without actually physically dying. Incredible experience. I know I spewed a bunch of words, but I find it so fascinating how this unintentionally brings me so much bliss, joy, sadness and comfort. Everything under the happy and sad spectrums wrapped in one. Like going to sleep and dreaming nothing. A liminal space in audio form.

if this wasn't slightly slowed down, it wouldn't be so unsettling yet comforting at the same time. The quietness along with it being slowed down slightly gives it the comforting factor, yet at the same time, knowing that its supposed to be heard, '"underwater" it gives that unsettling feeling that you, (the person listening) is drowning, or has drowened and taking our final breaths. What makes it even more unsettling is that the drum beat somewhat sounds like a heatbeat. Great job! You've made a song that for me, was comforting already, to having mixed feelings. I like it! A+

This is extremely comforting to listen to. It also just makes me want to cry. I've never played even Super Mario 64, but it's this soundtrack that I feel lost nostalgia for. I was born years after it came out and yet it still feels like it was a part of my childhood.

This is so calm, and yet, I feel desperate by this overwhelming slow tone. Kinda like drowning, actually.

DDD seemed so different at the time of release. I remember going into k-mart and kohl's and seeing the 64 kiosk. I played around with it for what must have been an hour, moving in all directions, exploring every inch of the underwater cavern. Now I'm so familiar with it it seems foreign to NOT know how small it really is, but exploring it for the first time was mind-blowing.

That is, imho the greatest downfall of the game. It's a blast to play, but the levels were too small. Almost claustrophobic

My god, this song makes me feel nostalgious, sad, happy, and all of the good feelings. Makes me remember my childhood, the best part of my life. Makes me remember all the times my Friends came by to my house to play.. laugh, do homework, eat, and have a good time. But, also, it makes me feel sad, because those times will never come back, and all of that is just memories... Also, makes me remember the times when i had a girlfriend that i loved so much (no more feelings for her) and all the beautiful moments that only you can have with a human being that you have a deep conection with. Also, makes me thing of the short life that we, the human beings have, all the things that we left behind when we die, because we're all together in this life, we all grow, reproduce to finally die.

That feelings of a time before I was born. When everything was better and peace had been restored. There weren't many fires or chanting in the streets. Just friendly meetings, eerie vibes, and joy inducing beats. A feeling of nostalgia I don't think I was alive for, that's what this reminds me of.

This reminds me of childhood. Specifically, a more pure, distilled forms of the emotions I feel. Like, nostalgia, but, separated from the blind reverence, separated from the subconscious understanding that it's filtered through the lens of wanting simpler times, and separated from being reminded how much I took those days for granted. Basically a pure extract of how I feel when experiencing nostalgia; nothing added.

To this, I imagine myself sinking into pitch, endless depths as I behold my last glimpse of sunlight glimmer through the shimmery veil of the water's surface. In this moment, my descent is just as endless as the sea - my unraveling spool of time just as eternal.

I replied this to someone else’s comment, but I wanted to get it out to everyone else just to see what other people think. It feels like your at the park, or at the top of the bleachers at the high school field, and you just look up and imagine all your friends there with you. You feel at complete ease, but you know it’s far from reality, but you know it can happen. Friends online, friends in real life, just all together as one. You feel like there’s no pressure on you. It feels like you are the happiest person in the world. Also, I wish this was on Pandora

its another 2009 summer night, i was lying down on the carpet in the living room and all the open windows were letting the fresh breeze inside. i was watching TV, they were airing a documentary about marin life, and they showed a shot of a huge whale shark, swimming peacefully in the water... i dont know why but now i will remember this memory everytime i listen to this song
