amplitube lol. this tone actually isn't that difficult to recreate, he is using either a cocked WAH or has an eq pedal set to sound that way, the rest is just the pick ups and amp distortion

I’ve always wanted to play the guitar on the MTV. Thanks for your awesome requests. I had a lot of fun doing this tune! Few notes about the song. Above the tab, Fingers: T-Thumb. I-Index M-Middle. Below the tab, strokes D-Down U-Up Though I use a pick more often than my fingers, I really wanted to nail this one. I checked out a lot of live videos and while it’s difficult to see with cameras constantly changing angles and older video quality, I studied what Knopfler was doing as closely as possible. In the chorus, Knopfler changes chords and hits open strings in between his changes. Myself on the other hand, I tend to keep my fingers on the fretboard with the power chords. Other or is fine. Have fun!

Usually people absolutely butcher this song when they make a youtube tutorial on it. But nothing looked wrong to me at all. I have a copy of the original sheet music and im going to assume you used one for reference since you got the harmonics right and some of the things that are super hard to notice. Like at 0:44 bar 3, Knopfler slightly changes it. I usually slide up to 5 there but most tabs miss that

Great job, Mr. Tabs! I also recomend to anyone who are trying to reach this tone, to use a Wah pedal turned on and always pressed making this strange high level nasal tone. I remember to try it back at the 80's and everybody was saying it was sounding fine but they were betting it was done using pedals, not wah. ...but it was right. lol Regards from Rio

Hate to bring the bad news but ...It's actually not. There's tons of debate about that but according to the tech in the studio at the day of recording: Use neck pickup / selector in the middle, tones to zero, amp: boost bass and mids, obviously tre to zero. However you do get very near with wah trick as well but not quite there.

@@mikko8574 I prefer Bridge pickup because it makes the harmonics sound a lot better. Technically to sound the most like the song you should have it in the neck position but I much prefer the bridge sound with the tone rolled off to 0.

This and EVH riffs must've been like the 80's version of what a polyphia riff is today. Like they're for sure not impossible and sometimes not even that hard to play but it takes a lot to get the technique down perfectly and play it correctly every time. Plus there's so many tiny things all three lead guitarists do in each band that take so much listening and watching to get it to sound exactly how they played it. You really killed this cover man, your technique and phrasing is spot on and I don't even know how you got the tone to be this close. This video really helped me finally learn how to play this song the "right" way, thank you so much!
