good album but the problem is it came out in the wrong year, grunge was taking over

nicolas boehm that's a fair point, the whole Seattle thing at the time made them look and sound really old, as musicians they and MK never got the respect they deserved as musicians in my opinion, that and the fact that they were all low key and grown up intelligent adults, there is some great songs on that album, planet of New Orleans /friend/fade really nice tunes, while heavy fuel and the bug I feel suffer with comparison to money/walk of life, maybe ironhand/man's to big can bé put into that category. 🎸 🎶 ✌️ 😊 🇮🇪

For the US probably correct. It made #1 in the UK and the cover of one song (title escapes me) made #2 in the US & #3 in CANADA on the country music chart. I was fortunate enough to attend one show on this tour in Washington DC and have of late really come to appreciate this underrated album more & more.

Yeah, but so what? DS were never about fashion. Their first album came out when punk was at it's peak. In fifty years from now, i doubt if anyone would remember the Sex Pistols or even Nirvana. They *will* remember Dire Straits.

well they didn't end up changing the set list around very much did they. for some gigs yeah, but didn't it end up being a pretty standard set list for most of the gigs

The pop-music _zeitgeist_ of 1991 needed Dire Straits to be mean, cynical, ridiculing of acumen and celebrating ruin, and laughingly nihilistic. Dire Straits just could not and would not wade that wallow. Shame on you, Gen X.
