The line up was: Mark Knopfler - guitar, vocals Alan Clark - keyboards John Illsley - bass guitar, backing vocals Hal Lindes - guitar, backing vocals Terry Williams - drums Additional musicians Tommy Mandel - keyboards I was there back in '83 at Hammersmith, I love good drumming and Terry Williams is still the one to beat. Mark is a brilliant singer and stellar guitar player, John and Hal brilliant. Terry on drums superb and Alan on main keyboards and piano is absolutely perfect. And watching Mark move around and grin at audience and fellow band members and how he will stand on left leg and lean back playing so relaxed. No effort required by these guys as the brilliant professionals. Terry on the drums sounds like a machine gun in the distance of a war movie. Check out there song Telegraph road from the same alchemy live concert. Even better than this.

Wonderful track and performance. I believe the drummer was Terry Williams, for this event. P.S. I'll put my vote in for the live 'Telegraph Road', as I note some others have done. The studio version is one of my favourite songs, from any band (and I'm a die hard Rush fan!); but the live version is rather special. I only prefer the studio track, because I love to hear the somewhat more prominent and distinguishable lyrics, that's all.

A long time has passed as I just remembered that I have this Alchemy Live on VHS. This is an excellent live performance and there are many songs to react to. Likely, the favorites among fans are Tunnel of Love and Telegraph Road, which are obviously epic, but so are most of the songs on that album ;) Also, if you have the change I'd highly suggest "Going Home" from On the Night Live album. Very beautiful and touching instrumental song. I'm not sure though, if you can find a video version of that anymore... On the Night has some of the best live performances of Dire Straits.
