A lot of people don’t notice that they’re 6 band members. Two of them are on keys in both corners of the stage and if you look to the upper right the guy is dancing his head off while playing it’s so cool to watch. They play so tight and clean.

Terry Williams was putting on a special show because his dad was in the audience and it was the first time he had seen him play live. Even the rest of the band are looking at him and joking. Superb

Such a great live version! Dire Straits are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Walk Of Life", "Brothers In Arms", "Money For Nothing", "Telegraph Road", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "So Far Away" etc. They don't have a bad song.

There is no words to describe 'Sultans of Swing', it never ceases to amaze. I grew up with the Straits and I still play all their songs on guitar/drums including the Sultans. If you like to hear another classic, look up the Sydney Australia tour and find 'So Far Away, Calypso version' live. i swear you won't be disappointed.

There are actually two keyboardists. During the piano solo you can hear the organ in the background. Also towards the end when the camera pulls back you can see both of them on either side of the drummer. And towards the very end you see the other keyboardist playing what appears to be a Hammond B3.

Notice Mark looking back at Terry (drummer) because he kept speeding it up. This is faster than the studio version. Mark is releasing a new album called One Deep River April 12, 2024.

Yes, this version is faster than the studio version but also lengthened and paced with a live performance in mind. The drummer, Terry Williams, was on fire in this performance. As for the new album from Mark Knopfler, let me say a couple of things. I became a fan of Mark Knopfler AFTER he went into a solo career path (with backing musicians, of course), and I loved much of his first few albums in that new path. But I've been disappointed in the last three or four albums, mostly because I think they lack the distinguished songwriting of the earlier albums--less inspired melodies, less creative guitar work, less variety, etc.

Loved your reaction to one of my favorite bands. Did you know Mark Knopfler is left handed and taught himself to play right handed guitar when he was young. Also watch out on KZbin on 31st January Mark is auctioning off most of his guitar collection live at Christie's auction house. Lot of the proceeds going to charity.

Love your reaction ❤ I have seen the best live performance so many times I cant count. And peoples reactions are so satisfying to watch. I see that a lot of people miss out that there is TWO piano/keyboardplayers. And the drummer Terry, is amazing. I have read that his father is in the audience, and sees his son play live for the first time❤❤

This is the BEST version. If you want it to rock and everyone to enjoy it including audience - they keep time so well. Drummer fantastic - Terry Williams - Mark Knopfler is a finger plucker and that is why it is so defined and clean. Keys sublime. He and the band are so cool, calm, smooth and a joy to listen to. Well Justin, did you enjoy that?

P.S. Also on the Alchemy Live, to watch Alan Clark really shine, watch/listen to his keyboards on Telegraph Road. Telegraph Road was actually the only sore spot for me. It was a magnificent performance, however, too damn much audience noise! Pity they couldn't filter it out. When the music is being played slow and low, there is no call for the hootin' hollerin' and whistlin'. I guarantee those making the noise (not to mention the folks immediately around them) never even heard the beauty of those quiet moments, not with their own voices filling their heads. But, if you can ignore it, Telegraph Road is a fantastic song. Great lyrics.

Hee. That is actually what we wore back then, in the 80s. These guys are perfect examples of fashion back then, from the headband down to the shiny pants. I'm a head-sweater myself, and it was AWESOME. 😅 I think Mark Knopfler was, too. I've been a fan since 1978, my sophomore year in college. This song was EVERYWHERE. I was in Nashville, and it was really popular even there , where Conway Twitty was still a big deal at the Opry. It was played continuously on FM radio. I think Mark Knopfler is a freaking genius. He's brought a lot of joy to my life. People will be listening to him hundreds of years from now, and this video might just be the best live performance ever captured. 👏 😊

🎶🎸 Very nice reaction, Justin. Although I love the precision perfection of the studio version of Sultans of Swing, Alchemy is definitely not to be missed. I recently bought the concert on DVD and was blown away by it. The story I heard is that Terry Williams' father was in the audience for the first time, which had Terry's adrenaline pumped up more than usual, thus the song is at a slightly faster pace, much to the amusement of Mark. Although everyone played fabulously, I could have spent this whole song just watching Terry. His drumming was at a whole nother level. Phenomenal. Extraordinary. As for Mark, I love how he would play his riff with a few extra notes added in here and there, impressive for the speed he's playing at. And, as I'm sure others have already pointed out to you, he plays without a pick. Mark Knopfler has a sound all his own, you know his playing without even seeing him. Another special thing about this concert, but this song in particular, is their smiling, you can tell they're really having a good time together. I had the good fortune to see them (sadly only once) in Milwaukee during their Brothers in Arms tour in 1985. I certainly will never forget it. 🎼 Two song requests, pretty please! Both are the Official Music Videos. First is ☆Wild West End☆, an extremely easy going, mellow, beautiful song to chill in front of a camp fire with; and Second, is ☆Walk of Life☆, Especially the Official Music Video, because it's just so fun! You really can't take your eyes off this video because you'll miss too much. Watch for a couple split second shots where they show a couple of older folk who will make you smile. 🎸🎶🎶🎶

Nice reaction comments, with obvious enthusiasm and also recognition of how this live performance is different from the album version. I like both, each having something to recommend it. But I know the live version is more rousing and the band members get a chance to shine a bit more here--the drummer and the keyboard player in particular. Interesting note for Mark Knopfler fans: the auction house Christie's recently had a sale of 122 guitars from Mark's collection (many used in live performance) that brought a total of more than $11 million. A large chunk is going to charity. The guitars featured were works of art--the Les Paul, the historic Strats and Strat copies, the Pensa Suhr designed for Mark, and many more.

Hey love your reaction and channel. Another great and emotional performance that is my fave actually, is Brothers In Arms Live Dire Straits "On The Night" 1993. It's so haunting and heavy and deep with that incredible sound from that Pensa Suhr guitar that Mark knopfler plays it's just jawdropping. All the best cheers from Australia 👍🎸

Great reaction! i think your next one should be Private Investigations from the on the night tour - poetry to music , talk about letting it breathe - it'll control your heart rate! but also Brothers in arms , telegraph road and a personal fabourite though it is less well known where do you think you're going? Musicianship isalways superb always worth doing the live performances with the one exception of brothers in arms where the award winning video actually makes the track even more powerful .

I don't know if you know this, the genius named Mark Knopfler wrote the words from an experience he had, music, arranged it, sang and played his guitar as only he can, what you've witnessed here is ALL from him, every bit, if you listen the organ and piano are playing a different tune at the beginning in the background, I don't know how he does it, genius, he's now 74 years old and still into music. Next please TELEGRAPH ROAD from this same concert, ALCHEMY LIVE. Everything from this concert tour came from him, again TELEGRAPH ROAD please ❤
