Suppose we have two 2 x 2 waveguide couplers (couplers A and B) that have identical channel geometries and spacings, and are formed on the same substrate material. If the index of refraction of coupler A is larger than that of coupler B, which device has a larger coupling coefficient K? What does this imply about the device lengths needed in each case to form a 3-dB coupler?

sir can you explain me why 10db and why 3db...i mean what is the use of these values and why we are calling them as 10db and 3db couplers
@EngineeringFunda5 жыл бұрын
In 3dB coupler, we couple half power ideally in coupling port. In 10dB coupler, we couple 10% power ideally in coupling port.
@seetaramaraju45 жыл бұрын
@@EngineeringFunda sir i know the function but didn't understand those values.example: why 5db coupler is not termed as equal splitter
@EngineeringFunda5 жыл бұрын
See the calculation of dB. And do calculate some basic examples like. 3dB = 10 log p So here p will 1/2. 10dB = 10 log p So here p will 1/10.
