I believe in the concept of "connection at first sight" more so than "love at first sight. Love is not always so simple because we are always learning what love is. I think some people interpret love in their own way, and may see it as love when they are more fixated on the need to be loved.

It was the fleshing out the 2Dimensional tale- the mother-daughter and father-daughter relationship, the Prince actually has a personality and appears empathetic, not a stiff shirt. And the side characters of the Captain and the Grand Duke, the pressures that shaped the step mother.
