it's actually interesting you mention the logistics of the lightsticks. before bluetooth technology was advanced enough to process that amount of data all at once, armys DID coordinate before performances with just the white version of the lightstick, putting different coloured bags over the lights to change the colour, etc. it touched the boys so much that the company decided to release coloured versions of the lightsticks with bluetooth technology so they could do it more and more often.

Officially, there is an ARMY membership that you can pay for online with all the perks and merch that you can purchase and such. But, collectively, and it is generally agreed upon in the fandom that as long as you genuinely love, support, and respect BTS as artists and as human beings, you're already an ARMY. I understand how you felt when you talked about being overwhelmed by the sense of community and belonging in the fandom and with BTS because that's how I felt too when I became an ARMY in 2020. I'm excited and we're excited to see your journey with BTS. You don't have to pressure yourself in watching their videos, shows, and series, and listening to their music quickly because the amount of content they have will take a very very long time to consume. I assure you, though, that we are more than happy to welcome a new member of the fandom and guide you on this journey. There is a common understanding in the fandom that the moment you found BTS is the moment you needed them the most. I hope that BTS will give you the love, happiness, and a safe place or a home in your life the same way that they have given each of us 💜

The light sticks are an integral part of K-pop. In the '90's it started with colored raincoats! Then balloons, then colored lights. G-Dragon from BigBang designed the first custom light stick for their fans. BTS were the first to integrate programmable bluetooth, inspired by the IR wristbands that Coldplay invented. BTS Army bombs even work on selected VLive music videos. and some of the online live concerts!

@@jenjin9492 No, Coldplay's Xyloband uses IR (infrared), not bluetooth. The Army Bombs can be programmed to do a LOT more than the xyloband. BTS were the first to use bluetooth synchronization in a light stick. The xyloband was the first that could be controlled remotely, but they did not add pixel mapping until later.

@JoobieLoobieSoobie2 жыл бұрын
@@jenjin9492 personally I suspect the ARMY Purple Ocean Project probably gave BTS the idea to add bluetooth, but the means by which it was accomplished was inspired by the technology in xylobands. Another fun fact that connects the two groups: Coldplay was the first group to revive the concept of storylines. If you go back to Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and The Who, you can find storylines in rock music, but the practice kind of died out after that era. Then in 2011 Coldplay started a storyline they told in albums as well as a comic series, Mylo Xyloto. Soon after that, storylines began to appear all over K-pop, which included the BU storyline. "Music of the Spheres" and the MY Universe MV are part of the Coldplay storyline, which is about the battle between Mylo's Sparkers and The Silencers.

I am a relatively newer Army. I am 49, and this sense of community really is something unique to BTS and this fandom. I tell people all the time that their authenticity and sincerity is so refreshing and unlike any other experience. You really feel a part of the journey, not just a watcher. I was lucky enough to go to the LA concert recently (with my 16 yo daughter who has been Army since she was 9). We had the lightsticks ("Army Bombs") and being a part of that purple ocean, feeling the love from so many people from all over the world, was a highlight of my life. It wasn't just the concert either, but from the morning we were at the stadium and it was like a festival, with costumes and community and people sharing things they made. It was just an unforgettable experience. Not to mention that their music is fantastic!

I'm 49 as well and I was there at the Dec 1 concert with my 18 yr old and a 77 yr old friend that I met in the comment section of KZbin for a BTS reactor! (Fun fact, my husband showed me my 1st BTS mv, Idol (which is a very overwhelming mv for the 1st ever seen lol, you'll see what I mean later I'm sure) once I got over the shock I was hooked and I got my entire fam into them!) You are right, it was the greatest concert of my life. There were people of all ages , races, cultures, genders and, styles. There were fashionable people, goths, nerds, everyone. And ARMYs we're so nice. All of our phones were dead after the concert and random ARMYs helped us call for a ride home, helped us find the right line, the girl setting next to me synced my army bomb for me, we all traded seats, like a bunch of us from around, so I could sit with my kid and they could be with their fam and friends. Tickets were insane selling out as we clicked on the seats so we couldn't sit together. But ARMYs made it happen. Best fandom and group in the world. I rly love watching your decent down this rabbit hole! BTS watch them in any order YOU want to watch them. I also love how you're like, oh it def be 16 mins not a 45 minute one. And it's 44 mins long I love it. 💜 Borahae 💜

PTD in LA were my first BTS concerts and hopefully not my last. The entire experience was unforgettable and easily some of the best concerts I've ever been to, I was there by myself but never felt alone. I made new ARMY friends from a city in my own country who had traveled over 2100 miles for the concert that I never would have met otherwise, as well as an ARMY that traveled all the way from London and also got gifts from sweet ARMYs while waiting in line. Being a part of the purple ocean and singing, dancing, jumping, crying and just vibing with 50,000+ other ARMY family was epic and amazing!

I’m 49 as well! I knew of BTS for a couple of years, but finally gave into the feeling they gave me during their New Years Eve Times Square performance of Make it Right. I went to 2 PTD LA concerts with 3 other Armys I met on Twitter (ages 28, 47, & 50 from La, Canada, & Florida). I was a Duranie when I was a kid, but I’d never experienced the type of relationship BTS has with its fans. Some fans can go a bit overboard & my family is still not sure about why I like them. But my 77yr old father has asked me to share some of these “intro” videos because they’ve really peaked his interest with their message. I too love watching new reactors to BTS. Seeing a new baby army be born as they go down the BTS rabbit hole helps me relive the experience myself. I’ve had a difficult last couple of years mentally & emotionally, and I don’t think I would’ve made it to this point without BTS & Army to keep me going. I’ve got a lot further to go, but I know there’s always someone in Korea that loves me. Please keep up the honest reactions & you will be rewarded in your heart. 💜보라해 = Borahae (I purple you)💜

Something about Korean culture as you start getting into the members and seeing how they interact and stuff: Korea is a very age-based society. Like age matters a lot in how you interact with others. The members will call members older than themselves “Hyung”. Hyung literally means “older brother” and it’s a word used by men to call men older than themselves whom they are close with. There are other words like this as well to give you a wider idea: “Unnie”: used by women to call women older than themselves whom they are close with. “Oppa”: used by women to call men older than themselves whom they are close with. “Noona”: used by men to call women older than themselves whom they are close with. These words are also used to refer to your actual blood older siblings. But always used in daily life with people you are close with/friends. For example, jungkook (youngest) calls all his members by “Hyung”. You’ll hear him say “Namjoon hyung!” Or “Suga hyung” or just “hyung”. But Jin (oldest member) just calls the rest by their names. Someone like RM who is in the middle in terms of age, calls some of them “hyung” and some by only their names. Also, in Korean, there is formal speech/grammar and informal/casual speech (called “banmal”). Since respecting elders is a big deal, the younger people will use formal speech with those older than them. This goes for BTS members too obviously. So for example, Jungkook will not generally speak in casual speech/grammer to those older than him. The Korean language is all very nuanced and delicate in how you talk with others based on your relationship with them. How you speak to your boss vs your older friend vs your younger friend, etc is all different.

@@ThisRoscoe this is also true for a lot of us from Asian countries. I'm from the Philippines and our "kuya" is equivalent to "hyung".. we also call "tita" or auntie, "tito"uncle when they are much older than us, regardless if they're ur relative or not. The thing with BTS is even though RM is the Leader, Jin would have the "highest authority" since he is oldest but Jin never impose his seniority, in an interview he said he adjusted his age to fit each members to make them comfortable. So when you see Jin with the youngest called maknaes: Jimin,V, Jungkook you might think he is the youngest as he is like a big kid😆 When is with the Hyungs or older members: Suga, JHope, RM, you will see his more "mature" side.. BUT you will soon find out that they are all just KIDS, goofy, loud, chaotic crackheads really, but they are all Mature at the same time. Us older Armys feel maternal or paternal towards them, I myself feels motherly instinct to RM, Jhope, Jimin, V, Jungkook..... dont ask me about Jin and Suga, because I feel a different way towards them, lets just say my heart flutters in a different way ahahahaha.

Can I just say how refreshing it is to see men react to BTS and be as excited as you are about discovering their music and how they became the biggest group in the world. Too many times BTS get put into this box of being meant only for girls or young kids (I'm 34) and those people have no idea what BTS is truly about and what they're missing out on. BTS music is for everyone and I love how diverse the fandom is. Michael Jackson once said “When they all hold hands…and everybody's rockin'…all the races are there…it's the most wonderful thing! Politicians can't even do that.” In my opinion music should always unite people not divide and that's exactly what BTS music does. So again I thank you for reacting to BTS and being so open minded and respectful. I can't wait to watch more reactions from you.

we all get those tears... and Fun fact: RM loves trees and rants about them so much, that armies organizes plantation drives as gifts on his birthday.... there is even something we call as RM tree philosophy - "You know in your 20s, you have so many thoughts, they're like many branches in a tree. If my brain is a tree, there are so many branches. There's sadness, desperation, devastation, there's happiness, hope, everything. But when you get old, it gets cut... We have to feel pain and have to experience many things. But after that in 30s and 40s, if you got so many branches in your 20s... you will someday become a beautiful tree by your 30s and 40s."

This was actually a good one to start with because it does a great job showing who BTS is as a group, their message, their authenticity, humility, bond, what they stand for, etc. It does a great job showing why Army loves BTS so much. The hardships video shows why Army is so protective of BTS. I would not recommend watching that one too early in your journey because it usually makes people really angry about some of the things that happened/were done to BTS during their journey. The Asian Theory video explains how BTS was formed, how each member ended up being found and a sort of timeline of how they have evolved as a group. The Introduction to the 7 members of BTS goes into more detail about each individual member, their roles in the group, any instruments they play, hobbies, etc. That one should help you be able to tell the members apart. I'm really enjoying watching your journey. Oh, and there is an official Army membership, although you don't need to get it to be Army. The "crystal balls" you asked about are light sticks, in Kpop groups have these and the official BTS light stick is called an Army Bomb. They are controlled by bluetooth and paired to your seat at concerts. They aren't just handed out. Everyone there just bought them. They aren't cheap either, lol.

The statistic is just from the 2019 ticket sales. There are a lot more older fans and male fans exist out there than this statistic since more younger people actually go to concerts. Besides, getting their concert tickets, you really have to fight & stay with current technology (I mean phone, tablet, computer whatever you've gotten) which younger ones are better at these. Their tickets are sold soooooo quickly and it's almost impossible to get one for a granny like me even when I stay in front of my computer & be ready to purchase in a minute they open for sales. They have tons of contents (mvs, dance practice, live, Bon Voyage series, Run series, the Rise of Bantan series....) will take you for a long time to catch up. Enjoy, get comfort and be happy with Bangtan (BTS) and with us Armys.

you're so right about bang PD. he actually stepped down as CEO of the corporation so that he could focus more on making music with the groups he managed, rather than looking over their shoulder all the time. since the very beginning he has wanted to create a space where the aritsts feel like they can be themselves and create their own sound. even way back in the day when bts were trying to get popular. instead of saying "do this kind of music so we can get some money out of it", his ONLY requirement for them was that they could write whatever they wanted, as long as it came from the boys' own hearts and lives. he's a sweetie.

The lights are the Army bomb n it is so beautiful when it all come in different colors like rolling balls. I watched the Concert at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles in Nov. 2021 for 4 nights, all sold out. That is how big they are but following the documentary it gives details of how they become BTS. I would suggest you to watch the U.N. speech that delivered by Kim Namjoon a.ka. RM. It will gives you more understanding of what they want to deliver their messages to this generation about how a lot of bullies, the system was not right etc n it put them to hard work, despite all odds working together n to love yourself don't give up n follow your dream. I'm a 70 yrs grandma n it brings me tears when I listen to their stories n what have they gone through, I still go back n forth listening to it n I am so happy of how successful they are. One thing that is stunning to me, these boys are so young n very humble n I never hear or heard from them that they brag about their success n how much money each individual has. They are really millionaires n they don't put it in their heads. I admired how they live together In1 bedroom n they share everything they have. What a one big family. Wow n wow.

Now you know why everyone kept commenting on your shirt the other day 😀 Ah the crystal ball is the official light stick for BTS. It’s called the Army bomb and yes it’s Bluetooth. You can buy it on Weverse or at the concerts Yes xCeleste did an excellent job on this video and it’s extremely popular. On a whole other level though is a KZbin series called the Rise of Bangtan. It’s edited by one person, Aneesa, who has followed BTS since the very beginning. It IS a series though and each episode is about 30 minutes. I can’t recommend it enough. Sorry for such a long comment oh and yay you came in under 45 minutes 😁 Borahae 💜

@@ThisRoscoe Rise of Bangtan is collectively recognized as THE best intro to them, but we also realize a lot of reactors don't want to commit the time to such a long series. It's really worth it, though. It educates you about the kpop industry and explains how BTS is different and it follows their journey specifically through their vlogs so you are hearing it from their own voices.
@fy38452 жыл бұрын
@@ThisRoscoe I think you will enjoy this amazing series. Aneesa, the creator of The Rise of Bangtan is a OG Kpop fan and loved and followed BTS since pre-debut. She tries to give an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. You have to understand that the way she had edited the content is to show how the industry works in South Korea and how BTS and Big Hit are different from the norm. It's sometimes very subtle how she shows the contrast. Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! She doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time. She also shared that BTS has been the light in her darkness for many years now. She also shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for almost 4 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! She does all the editing and has a team of volunteers who does the translations. She posted Chapter 19 a couple of weeks ago which is the beginning of the last season of The Rise of Bangtan. We don't know how many chapters there are left to this last season, but we appreciate every chapter she makes!

I was at their last concert in LA on 12/2 and RM's ending moment broke my heart when he ended up in tears. RM said that he was worried we would have forgotten them but he promised that we'll always be together even if it's 10 or 20 years into the future. The boys were all candid about expressing their fears of being on stage again after not seeing ARMY for 2 years when they did live streams after the concerts. Each one of the members did a live either in a group or just chatting solo. Then there's Jin who being the typical prankster he is kept interrupting because they will watch each other too. I know you're still early in your journey but the love and respect between BTS and ARMY is symbiotic. When they say that they love us fans I BELIEVE that because those words are straight from the heart and they don't feel empty like it does with other acts. (I'm not trying to drag anyone else here!) One last tidbit of information but their CEO has dropped the formal title and one of the members said it was a defining moment when Bang PD said it was okay to call him hyung.

I've seen numerous reactors that just complain about the length of the video and rarely pause to take it all in, so thank you for that. I cried when you teared up because I felt that already. RM's words are so powerful and he is very wise for his age. He sees the world differently so when he shares his thoughts like that it really hits deeply. Today RM was on weverse replying to many ARMYS and giving them encouraging messages while also expressing some thoughts he's had. He didn't have to do that but he did, he took time to reply to each person, we all had like 50 notifications on our phone lol Here's something he told an ARMY who said she couldn't live up to expectations and felt she failed in life. RM said, "There is no end to the thing called expectations, life isn't speed but direction". When I say WISE I say WISE.

And now YOU, @Roscoe & The Big Comfy Couch, now YOU are part of this movement, this force for good. Glad to be here for it! I can’t wait until you get to the hardship video & from nobodies to legends by XCeleste. You are gonna be rippin’ pissed. It’s sooo motivational to see what they’ve been through Those light sticks are called ARMY bombs. In their first iteration they only glowed white so for concerts & musters ( the name for the yearly fan meet concert) early ARMY would giver them w/ colored bags or cloth to create a sea of color or spell out things by coordinating online or before events to track down ppl in seat numbers. In fact during one of these musters ARMY got together to create a sea of purple using little cellophane bags to cover the bombs. When Tae saw it he said it reminded him of a rainbow cuz the last color is purple & to him purple therefore means to be there to the last, to love & trust always. That was the birth of “I purple you” or “borahae” 💜. Now a days the light sticks change color & are Bluetooth enabled & the company can make them do fancy things. BUT we still do ARMY projects that ar3 coordinated on Twitter & Weverse. For example for the concerts in LA in December it was Jin’s birthday so for weeks b4 ARMY all over the world were making matching slogan boards w/ his name on it for to give to army in the floor section to hold up during their opening comments (ie ment) & a box of purple paper to go over the ARMY bomb w/ a moon cut out fit their closing ments. Jin wrote his solo song moon about ARMY & how he is the moon orbiting a beautiful earth (ARMY). The videos are sooo special & you can find them on KZbin! There is even videos of all the ARMY at the sofi stadium still working on the projects b4 the concert started & handing it out to the floor seats.

Bang Si-Hyuk is now more like a close friend to them. Since honorofics are very important in South Korea its kind lilke huge that BTS members can call him "Hyung" now (it`s likely translated into 'older brother'). Still catching up. You're for the Alliance? GASP. As a member of the Horde, I simply cannot stand for this. lol. But really, your gut feeling about the order to go in was great. Honestly, all three introduction videos are great, but I have to say XCeleste is an amazing source for baby Armies. Also, I think you'd absolutely love the Rise of Bangtan series, it's so well made you'd think BH put it out themselves. It also has great extras that go along with the eps.
