Key is known for his hair and clothing styles. He's also a master chef and very bright. I'd like Roscoe to react to "DICE" by Onew, the leader of SHINee. Onew has one of the BEST voices in Kpop.

Key has been doing this for half his life now. He and Shinee worked hard for their creative freedom and I feel like Key in particular is so detail oriented that there isn't any single aspect of his work, from song choice, to hair and makeup, costumes, sets and even album design that he doesn't pour his full creative genius into. Every time I watch his videos and performances I find new details I hadn't noticed the first dozen times. Shinee just has some kind of magic that comes from another dimension. There are any number of brilliant and talented groups out there that are putting out great music but there is just something strange and wonderful about Shinee that no one else could have pulled off.

Shinee literally can’t lose. I said it on another Shinee/Shinee Solo video of yours but Shinee members are your idol’s idol. They’re LEGENDS. They’ve been around for 15 years. They take things that should suck (Don’t Call Me) and make it a banger. ALL of the members solo stuff is GOLD. There’s these 4 members with very unique vocal quality that meshes in ways it shouldn’t mesh.

And Key, while my bias, makes up one element of SHINee. OT5, as you have reacted to before, are so much more🤯Live stages are their pinnacle, SHINee live💯💎💎💎💎💎
@milindawilson9175 Жыл бұрын
Just wait until you see a live performance of "Bad Love," as well as Key's dance practice video. He can do all this live and he sounds even better than the studio version. His live comeback stages for this song are just as epic as what you saw in the MV. "Bad Love," which came out in 2021, is Key's 3rd solo album after his debut and repackage albums. This is most definitely straight out of classic '80s - rock ballad/ electro-rock/ dance-pop. However, it mixes in '60s, '70s era sci-fi elements. If you really want to see how deep Key took it with the vintage sci-fi theme, just take a look at his teaser videos for "Bad Love", those are right out of an old B-reel science fiction movie or TV show. Also check out his pre-release MV "Hate That ..." To me it's more Star Trek the TV show than Star Wars the movie. I see the scenes in the "Bad Love" MV being more closely related to retro TV shows than movies because all the scenes in the MV are supposed to be sense from the shows that he is flipping to as he sits in front of the vintage TV. Key said his personal style is like retro '80s/'90s MTV, so that's the treatment they used to come up with this comeback concept. He's always had a retro feel to his previous solo work, but with "Bad Love" he started to go all in. As you can see, he really dove in deeper with the retro concept after he came back from the military in 2021. The retro sci-fi theme was something Key said he has always wanted to try and he has been pushing to get SHINee to do something like this practically since their debut, but he really had to fight with SM to get them to let him do what he wanted to do with his 'Bad Love" concept and to get the budget he needed to accomplish it all. This was the first time that he really took charge of all aspects of his solo work and was able to feel like he could take ownership of all parts of it. Key always said that his solo debut album was pretty much what SM wanted to do, but after coming back from the military he wanted to create something that was authentically all his own that really felt like it represented him. SM's songwriter Kenzie, who also produced "Gasoline," was the lyricist/producer of "Bad Love" with contributions made by Key. Key came to her with the idea to create a retro '80s/'90s style song that fit his vision for what he wanted this album to represent, and this is what Kenzie and Key came up with. Everything you see and hear was designed by Key. This is 100% authentically Key's style -- from the storyline of the MV to the sound and style of the song, to the outfits everyone wore, to the set design, etc. -- it's all based on his ideas and design. He even helped design the outfits that the backup dancers are wearing. It's Key's vocals you hear in the whole song -- including the deeper whisper parts. The person in the mirror is the woman who is haunting him with her bad love. He is thinking of her and remembering what she put him through during their relationship, so she appears in the mirror like a memory that won't go away. As Key has explained, the storyline in this MV is about how his character is going crazy, trapped in his mind, and while watching TV he projects himself into the scenes on TV. Every time the channel changes, his character is shown in a different scene in the MV. (And it's not modern-day TV programs, as you can see from the aesthetic, it's supposed to remind you of '80s/'90s international/U.S. TV programs.) That is why at the end you see him haggard and worn out looking. The TV goes fuzzy and he is pulled out of his crazy warped fantasy world and brought back to reality. Where he is recovering from the "Bad Love." I think "Bad Love" has become my favorite song of 2021, and it's not just because I am a Shawol. I mean I can't even think of a song that came out even in the last few years, that compares to how much I love everything about "Bad Love." (Minho's "Heartbreak" and Onew's "One Star (Way)" are close seconds.) As you may remember, Key is our fashionista of the group, who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. He is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. To Key, fashion is about being unique and looking for ways to stand out, without being outrageous. So everything you see him wearing will be very trendy and fashion forward. Key can pretty much wear anything -- time and time again, he has shown that the fashion styles and clothing that would often look ridiculous or just average on most people, when he wears it, always looks high fashion and cool. That same thing could be said about all the members of SHINee, with their own unique styles. Many people in the industry look to Key when it comes to fashion trends. That's also why SM has made him its director of fashion. Key is friends with several big-name designers. With SHINee's experimental concept, the group is also known for creating fashion trends, so designers really covet a chance to work with any of the members of SHINee -- but especially Key -- because SHINee will give them street cred and undoubtedly make them more popular. And on top of all of that, he is SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. (When in middle school he studied for a short time in Australia and New York. Plus, his grandma had a English tutor when he was growing up, so he is fully immersed in Western culture.) That is why his pronunciation of the English lines in his songs are so crisp and clear. That is also why he specifically included the song "Helium" on his Bad Love album, which is all in English for his international fans. As a member of SHINee, Key's amazing vocal range and dance skills shouldn't be surprising, that's just what the members of SHINee are known for. And, not only is Key an amazing singer, but he is also one of SHINee's rappers. How often do you see a rapper with that type of vocal range? That's why SHINee are so highly respected in the industry because almost no one can do it the way SHINee does it. He is also a K-drama and movie actor, so he knows how to act. And, as a musical stage actor, he knows how to use his full vocal range, and he has no problem projecting his voice to the back of the theater. Plus, he is one of the most popular guests/cast members on variety shows, so he knows how to capture people's attention. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, everything SHINee does is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. Everything the members of SHINee release should be a sound and style you have never heard in Kpop before, because they are the ones who are supposed to introduce the next style and sound to the industry. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last -- including the members solo work -- so you will never hear the same style or sound from Key in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always be very Key-like. The industry looks to the members of SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. When any of the members of SHINee does something, the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. And Key's solo work is no exception.

Just so you know, the featured artist on Key's "Cold" song is Hanhae who is a solo rapper and former member of the Kpop boy group Phantom, he is also a fellow cast member of the variety show Amazing Saturday with Key. And seeing as you explained who everyone else was, you should also mention that Soyou is a former member of the girl group Sistar.

I think what makes getting to know Shinee different is, you really only peel back more and more layers to actually appreciate them. Like you can be impressed by a song like Hard or Don't Call Me or Sherlock. But that doesn't actually give you any real idea of what Shinee music is like and (at least for me) only after starting to listen to more of their songs, to their solo outings and B sides do you realize just how different these songs are and how conceptually insane of a group Shinee is. You know the concept of 'SuperM'? take all stand alone stars with their individual star careers and charisma and allround skills and make em into a group? Shinee at this point is kind of that only it wasn't constructed but grew over 15 years with all the chemistry and complimenting each other that brings. To not be able to surprise after 15 years but to feel like we're still seeing them evolve and set trends... ❤

SHINee's talent is to take any concept, any sound, any genre and make it SHINee. And it's not that their work always sounds the same - they can be unpredictable - they just bring a certain SHINee sound and quality to whatever they choose to do 💎💎💎💎💎

They’re also masters of live performance. There are a bunch of SHINee World concert clips on KZbin and i HIGHLY recommend them. I’d list individual songs but it’d be too long bc i know i’d give you too many LOL. It’s probably fair to pick out the ones with the highest view counts 😂 but i’ll 100% plug “Excuse Me Miss” because that’s, like, necessary SHINee viewing.

I think the word you are looking for might be “contemporary”. SHINee is billed as a “contemporary band” and I think it fits so very well- it doesn’t matter if the song is any one thing genre wise they take it and form it to be *the* thing of the moment and it’s always fresh and fun and captures something new every time!

SHINee debuted 25 May 2008 as an experimental, contemporary group and is comprised of the five most talented guys (the “Most Shining in the Universe”) in South Korea. They’re tasked (and are incredibly successful) with introducing new ideas ranging from concepts, music genres, fashion, and more to the industry. They set the trends and others follow in their footsteps. One such trend is known as the SHINee Standard-intense choreography whilst singing live, even since their debut. In fact, SHINee is one of the few K-pop groups who have won 1st place on music shows in 3 different decades: 2000s - “Love Like Oxygen”, 2010s - “Lucifer”, 2020s - “Don't Call Me”. The only thing SHINee is known to not be good at is lip syncing, so they typically don’t. They’re known for their incredible live vocals and have been lovingly nicknamed “CDNee” because their live vocals are even better than their recordings, despite their heavy/intricate choreo-it’s like they eat their CDs for breakfast. They trained by singing while taking long runs and kept that conditioning up-after all, their concerts last 3.5 hours or longer with insanely intense choreography and vocals. They give their all during their performances, but you’d never know they were so tired their managers have had to carry them afterwards. All five members are also accomplished soloists. In fact, SHINee is the ONLY group in which every member has hit #1 on Worldwide iTunes and appeared on the music shows MNet/M Countdown, Show! Music Core, and Inkigayo as solo artists. Between SHINee’s 15 years of music as a group and over eight years worth of solo discography, there is a LOT to discover…and that doesn’t even include the countless movies, musicals, TV shows, radio, and various other solo activities they have to offer. From business to sports, fashion to investments, cultural programs, philanthropy, social justice, human rights, academics, etc…our Shining men are truly incomparable. Something that is important to know in regards to SHINee…I mentioned they are a five member group, and that is true to this day. However, Jonghyun tragically lost his battle with depression and anxiety in December of 2017. He was always incredibly open regarding his struggles with mental health…which isn’t taken seriously in South Korea (though it is improving, from what I understand…in large part due to the tragic losses of Jonghyun, Sulli, Goo Hara, and other idols). Doctors pretty much told him to suck it up and try to be happy. His death was devastating, not only to SHINee and Shawol (fandom name, short for SHINee World), but for all of KPOP, Korea, and the world. He is still missed terribly and appears regularly on charts for popularity and listening counts. Key really is a class of his own…dare I say, it’s of a SHINee caliber. His newest mini album, GOOD & GREAT, is phenomenal with his incomparable retro flare. No one does retro as well as Kibum. No one. (Please remember these are my opinions and yours may differ-I respect that. Please respect mine.) Anyhoo… the album is full of groovy, spacey, house sounds with lovely synths and dance flows. The vocals and raps are, as expected from anyone of SHINee, top tier. I love how Kibummie not only puts out great music, but pairs it with great stories, as well. Just another day in Keyland with the G.O.A.T!!!

Yooo I FINALLY pinpointed why I am so in love with the melodies in this song! And it connects directly to the way you described the song’s mix of genres about 3 mins into this video- So… what I am hearing here is Survivor. The arrangement of notes in their songs were always moving and they were vocally delivered in a certain way that I am hearing from Key. I really don’t know how to describe music in a technical way. And what I’m describing may have been common in most music at the time, but my parents stuck to just one or two of their favorites in the late 80s-early 90s, so that’s what we heard a lot. However, the primary song coming to mind is “Is This Love.” Anyone reading this and familiar with that song or any like it, please let me know your thoughts! 🙂
