It was a tribute to boy bands, so it's given there'd be some sort of mashup. What I liked was that traditionally, in North America,boy bands were singers that maybe did a bit of dancing;and Stray Kids made that choreography look good.

SKZ was asked by the AMAs to do a tribute to boy bands. What I like is that it's all tied together to Deadpool. Deadpool was in Chk Chk Boom. Bye bye bye was in the Deadpool movie. Now SKZ merged the two songs together that involved Deadpool. Boom 💥

They were asked to do a tribute to boy bands and In Sync for the 50th anniversary for the AMAs. You're correct that they got a lot of new attention, but it was in itself a stunning accomplishment for a kpop band to be the chosen representative for a historically western pop genre. As far as stray kids being a pop boy band, I don't think all of SKZ is pop, either. The fact that they self-write and self-produce and have dabbled with 40ish different musical genres puts them (in my opinion), in a totally different league than American boy bands. I think I've always thought of boy bands as being just a group of pretty boys singing fairly simple, commercial songs whilst dancing for teenage girls. I guess SKZ have the pretty/dancing boxes checked, anyway😂. Can you react to GIANT, 🙏. Ty for this reaction😂❤.

Hi Roscoe! The song mashup was made by Chan & Versachoi...they've worked together a lot, especially in kingdom...so, for me, was another day for them, cause they ABSOLUTELY SLAYED IT! Also, you described POP as genre, and is correct, but also, pop comes from popular given its time and space, so, maybe now we separate group to group, but clearly in the age of the beatles they were both pop genre and popular at their time...also, pop isn't even a fixed term, because you clearly have kpop as korean pop, but the sounds are different inside the same genre, right?

Hanson was also considered part of the "boy band" surge of the 90s and they play all their instruments. The problem with "pop" as a title is that the classifications "bubblegum pop" and "popular music" both get shortened to POP and overlap. 😂

Imo....boy bands started with The Jackson 5 & The Osmonds, just like Joyce said. I've also decided that along with the other groups I'm in, i.e., Dirty Old Lady Crew, Crotch Crew, etc., that I am now a member of the Zoom Crew. 💜💜💜

The Monkees were definitely a boy band. They were developed and put together by producers specifically to play the genre of popular music of that time, on a TV show. They also had very little control over their music until several years into their career. In that way, they were one of the first groups to be manufactured to entertain and make money for the producers. Which is exactly the same way most of the current boy bands are formed. They were the prototype.

The debate on this was wild. Like not all popular music is “pop.” Pop Music is a specific genre that has specifications just like country or rock music. Also, just as an FYI, Chan didn’t remix this song. He gave a very large shout out to Versachoi for doing the track afterwards.

I think it was Lance from NSYNC I think....... with the other American boyband members around him introduced Stray Kids that night. The ropes were in the original video for Bye Bye Bye...I had to look it up...I never followed those bands lol.

Essentially, all pop boy bands are considered boy bands, but not all boy bands are strictly pop. Boy Band: A group of young men singing primarily pop music, often with a strong emphasis on image and choreography, targeting a younger female demographic. Pop boy band: A boy band whose music is specifically categorized as pop, with a focus on catchy hooks and mainstream appeal

Да, есть разница между попгруппами прошлого и современными.Раньше сами играли и "почти не танцевали",а теперь такой темп исполнения (танца!),что вряд-ли получится играть(это был бы цирк)!!! Изменилась манера исполнения, сумасшедшее оформление сцены ... Хорошо ,что не пропадает молодёжный накал исполнения, написание песен своими силами...Успехов всем,а главное не обливать исполнителей грязью,не топтать и не доводить до самоубийства(чем постоянно страдает Корея...)

I'm enjoying the conversation about pop music. I think that in the "western countries" pop music is it's own genre. I Korea I believe they use K-Pop to encompass a whole bunch of genres that are amid to have international fans. In K-Pop there are alot of genres and groups that play instruments and those that dance.

So boy bands have been around sense at lest the 60's but back then they were vocal groups. The Temptations, The Jackson 5 to name just a couple. The more modern that most of us think of would start in the late 80's with New Kids on the Block. So yes boy bands have been around for more than 50 years.

My 2 cents: You can be a boy/girl group and play music that is not pop genre. There are a lot of popular rock boy groups, for example, that doesn't make them pop as in genre, but they are popular and boygroup. That's the distinction I make, at least.

I agree with this part: The term "pop music" may be used to describe a distinct genre, designed to appeal to all, often characterized as "instant singles-based music aimed at teenagers" in contrast to rock music as "album-based music for adults".

You should watch the document in paramount call Larger tha life! there is the story of boys band The importa heres is that Stray kids was invited tio AMA to pay a tribute to boys bands for the 50th year of AMA... among every boy band in the planet they were the one performing there I think tha is huuugeeee!! That day I remember the research of SKZ in the US went up like crazy (sorry my English... it's not my language)

As i understand it (and i can be wrong) but its a “boyband” if part of the main appeal includes the attraction to the members. Thats why the Beatles are widely considered the first boyband. Cause at the time they were sexy icons 😂

"Pop" is more than popular though. It has a distinct set of sounds I think it is also popular because it is top 40 most commonly listened too. On the topic of boy bands, the term was coined in the 90s but really followed the pattern of many of the old Motown groups

The Monkees were aged 19, 20, 21 and 23 when they started (1966) and I had always considered them a boy band. The Jackson 5 were aged 6-11 when they started performing in 1964. The most literal definition of a boy band. Menudo were 9-13 years old when they debuted in 1977. Definitely boys. There were also lots of family bands, often comprised of teenagers (Think "The XYZ Sisters") in 40's and 50's radio. Boy/Girl/Family bands were definitely in existance, in some form or another, 50+ years back. Since, the AMA was celebrating it's own 50 year existence, I think it's reasonable to loosely classify this as a celebration of 50 years of boy bands.

The Beatles started out with a fan base of women in their teens and twenties. They weren’t taken seriously at first because of this. When they began getting male fans, they became more mainstream and it was okay to say you were a fan. Any group that women are passionate are automatically dismissed. In my opinion, the Beatles were absolutely a boy band.

I feel like "pop music" is a genre where the music is made to have popular appeal, even if it doesn't necessarily become very popular. What else would you call someone like Sabrina Carpenter or Katy Perry? Even if they didn't have big hits, I'd call them pop.
