The way the Baker passes his light over his wife's ghost when he sings "I think I see a glimmer..." really gets me.

This is easily the most compelling version of this finale, thanks mostly to Waddingham still delivering this song as the Witch, rather than as a narrator to the audience. That look on her face when she sings the stanza about "things that your father and mother had said" is heartbreaking.

Gosh she’s an amazing witch. Not only her voice but also her emotional and depth.

I wish it could have been in the original Broadway production. I think that part ties the entire thing together.

I just saw a production of this (unfortunately without the beautiful added witches verse) and man when rapunzel told her that she’s the reason she’ll never be happy? Ouch

I saw this show. It was open air theatre. It rained and the show kept having to take breaks. It took four hours in the end. Still great show.

I would have loved to have heard Meryl Streep belt out that line at 1:24 in the film adaptation!

This production was staged in Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, a couple of miles north of the West End. The outdoor setting made this production extra special, as night fell and the atmosphere and storyline both got darker and colder. Hannah Waddingham was a brilliant Witch and I also loved Jenna Russell's Baker's Wife. I think Stephen Sondheim visited the set as he was in London for his 80th birthday Proms. #RIPSondheim

In this production the Baker's kid is the kid who narrates the entire play?
@sheismymom5 жыл бұрын
yes
@Gnostic723 жыл бұрын
The kid is “part of the REAL WORLD” he runs away from home after a fight with his Dad. As he settles for the night IN THE WOODS, he tells the story of INTO THE WOODS. Yes, the actor who plays his Dad also plays the Baker but they are TWO SEPARATE CHARACTERS.

@@Gnostic72 I thought it was the narrator telling the story of how his mother died and how he came to be?

@ssbpichu3265 жыл бұрын
@@kokorolinkrun2943 that can be inferred but it's still the bakers child 😂

Ugh she’s great but the lyrics are the worst. I’m so happy revivals mostly went back to the much better original.
