Just got the genie 2 today... I want my old genie back !
@ErnestoAvilez926 жыл бұрын
WOW!!! Thats even slower than our old HR22 boxes that we used to have, and those boxes are old and slow. One thing you can try is to see you are using old Coax cables in your house because they might be rusted from the inside and not getting the full data your genie 2, or if your dish is not properly aligned that can also be why some channels load faster than others. Our tech wired new coax in our 2 house, and i have the genie hr44 with 3 genie minies c41's and on the main genie channels load fast and take about 1/2 a second to 1 second to load from when i key in of select a channel from the guide. Hope you get the problem fixed. Edit- I did some research and directv states that your genie 2 server needs to be at lease 4 feet away from the ATT Modem/router since it can cause slowdowns and interference. and about the software being an issue, people have stated that there is a new update that improves performance on the Genie 2 but since i don't have it, i cant confirm that.
@bobbyking68866 жыл бұрын
Ernesto Avilez - thanks for your input and information. I will look for any updates on line. When you say ATT modem are you referring to the new wireless tower that this new genie 2 system comes with? Honestly all this talk of hr 22 & 44 & other numbers people are referring to doesn’t make any sense to me. I’m a simple guy who just wants to watch tv. In this day & age with the advancements in technology we’ve made, watching tv & changing a channel at a normal speed shouldn’t be an issue. It all started when I got the 4K tv & new boxes. Directv doesn’t give a shit is the bottom line. Thanks again tho.

Had to make another call to Directv yesterday. The latest disaster happening now is some customers aren’t getting 4K channels at all. I unfortunately seem to be one of them. They’re “aware” of it and are working on it. They’re making it harder everyday to stay as a customer.
@bobbyking68865 жыл бұрын
Ok so here’s the latest update with Directv..... I’ve cut the cord. They’re out of my home. I’ve had enough after 20 years as a loyal customer. Couldn’t take the overpriced garbage they were providing along with the horrible equipment they supply (Genie 2). I’ve officially gone over to KZbin tv. It’s a way better product for only $40/month. I’m getting channels I wasn’t getting with Dtv unless I was willing to upgrade, pay out another $15-20 per month for another dozen or so channels when all I really wanted was 1-2 of them. Best of luck to you all who are still dealing with this BS. Ever since AT&T took over the product went downhill and they don’t care. Thanks for watching and all the feed back.

The hr54 model is better imo. Always wait a couple years before getting any cable/satellite company's new equipment, they always have bugs that take them a while to fix.

George Costanza - I wouldn’t do it. Seems ever since AT&T took over the company has tanked in every aspect. I’m currently doing some research on KZbin tv and it’s a high probably I’ll be dropping directv and switching over. I have the second to bottom package they offer with a insurance plan and I’m paying approx. $120 and I don’t get a lot of channels I would like to have.

Xavier Crawford - I agree. Samething I tell everyone myself. I had a phone rep tell me she WOULDNT get it cause of all the software issues. I understand there’s bugs in the beginning but to me it seems ever since AT&T took over Directv they don’t seem to care about customer satisfaction & putting out a quality product because by now, they should’ve or could’ve had a lot of these matters resolved already.

Bit of a long post ahead but hope it gives you some useful info. It's hard for me to make a relative comparison between the HR54 and Genie 2 since I have not had the chance to actually use a Genie 2. However, we have no complaints about the performance of our HR54. It did get a noticeable performance hit when the guide software / redesign update first installed on it. However thankfully the most recent software update we got about a month ago has made a noticeable difference in improving the responsiveness of the new guide. Everything is quite snappy on our HR54. Now as for the 3 wireless Genie Mini's we have, that's a dif story. We were disappointed in their performance and responsiveness even with the original guide software, but the new one was pathetic. Thankfully that latest update helped the mini's out a little bit as well, but AT&T should have never released that first version in the state it was in. And I really hope it continues to improve. There are still random moments where a genie mini can go totally un responsive to input for a solid 3 even 5 seconds. Then jump all over the menu catching up to your commands. It's getting more and more rare but still. The smooth snappy software and set top boxes (in every room) is one of the things we all miss most from when we had U-verse TV (only switched because price was to crazy after new customer promo's ended). I really wish DirecTV hardware was not so reliant on the Server / Client model with one responsive box with decent hardware and tiny boxes with potato chips in them for everyone else :( That's why I really don't have much interest in the Genie 2 since all TV's use a genie mini and the main box/tower is "headless" and doesn't actually hookup to a TV. AT&T has announced they are working on a "OTT" (over the top / streaming) version of the "Full DirecTV service" that will stream over and broadband connection. So supposedly just like the satellite service we have now (same large channel selection, features, etc) but it will run over any broadband connection using standard streaming hardware like a Roku, or Apple TV, kind of a DirecTV Now Premium. AT&T will also offer a streaming device of their own built on Android TV platform as well, its already gone through the FCC for approval so you can find pics of it easily. This service is supposed to go live by the end of the year. and supposedly be a good deal cheaper since now dish, install, or specialized set top boxes will be needed. Very curious to see how that turns out.

Not sure why anyone would hook this up wireless. That is just asking for problems with video. Its amusing though that companies are trying and the calls they get are many I'm sure. But if going wired don't help then so be it but Ill never use wireless for video like that myself, unless technology gets a lot better.

@bobbyking68864 жыл бұрын
wizard3z castor - I gave up about 6-8 months ago and took them out of my home after 20+ years. Couldn’t take the issues they had with genie2 and more importantly the prices. Pay way too much for too little. So I cut the cord and did my research on streaming tv services and ended up choosing KZbin tv and Ive never been happier since!! WAY WAY CHEAPER and I get all the channels I really wanted with Dtv but couldn’t get unless I would upgrade to the next package and end up with a ton more channels I didn’t want just to get one or two more. Look into it. They usually have 2-4 weeks of free trial before you decide. You can do this and still keep Dtv while you test it and decide. Good luck.

My wireless is EERO, a 3 unit system. I have one in my office, one in my great room and one in my master bedroom where the Genie 2 is located. It is plugged directly into the EERO and about 4 feet from the TV. I suspect that if using wireless it might be a lot slower. It is as fast with station selection as my former Genie.
@douglassgarvey6536 жыл бұрын
Bobby King Actually that does nothing. The eero or router hardwired connection is only for broadband services, On Demand, apps etc. Wireless clients are ONLY connected through wireless signal. My guess it's a coax cable issue or possibly an HDMI issue.
