My girlfriend Taylor requested a cutting board from me so I used the opportunity to share a simple carving jig that I designed to create a shallow dish in the center of the cutting board. Watch as I share a hack to carving a uniform shallow depression in this chunk of wood without using a lathe or any complicated tools. It’s simply a plywood jig using an angle grinder as the cutting tool. The wood I used for this cutting board was spalted maple. Do you have another way to do it without a CNC? What else would you use this technique for? Leave a comment below!

I have seen these before but never realized the purpose of them being concave, did a quick Google and found that it's to keep the meat and their juices in contact with each other, you learn something new every day, great job as always.

I once made a simple little ashtray for a friend of mine, and to carving the centre I used an angle grinder with a multi purpose disk, but it's nowhere near close the inventive you used to make this cutboard. This is why YOU ARE THE KING! And this is why I always watch all of your works! Chapeau!!

Well, it worked, that's for sure. A lathe has been done so many times that it is nice to see a different method. Plus, this way, you get the exact radius you want in concavity. I'd love to see the Diresta method for getting the exact convexity curve wanted in wood carving, without a lathe. The matching radius to the concave cutting-board would be nice. Maybe just a half an inch smaller? The two together might work well as a sort of lazy-susan?
@fadetounforgiven
@fadetounforgiven 3 жыл бұрын
Well, I think Izzy Swan has a different approach which seems faster once you've built the whole jig, and this one seems better for a one off. That being said, what intrigues me the most if the whole anvil stand and that "foot-brake" system. I don't remember seeing that before, but I may have missed it or maybe my memory is in its decline. Anyway, it's a really, really cool way to move the whole thing around.
