Word of advice from experience: Make sure all of the Zerks are greased daily of use. Grease is cheap compared to repairs from no grease. We got a company backhoe and a 1.5-ton truck from another part of the company. These machines had not been greased. The front end of the truck was a disaster while the end of the stick had to be cut off and another welded on as there was no, zilch, nada sleeve left and the pins were deep into the structural steel to carry the bucket. You could take your hands and move the bucket about a foot total because of the slop. This happened in 1973.
@ikbendusan3 жыл бұрын
daily? i dont know anything about these machines but that seems excessive lol
@jasonkarels62023 жыл бұрын
If it is used all day... that is quite possible. I am going to guess that many of the pivots are an 8-10 hour grease interval.
@walkertongdee3 жыл бұрын
@@ikbendusan he never greased his lol
@Danman19723 жыл бұрын
@@ikbendusan With a battery powered grease gun this is a step that could save a lot in repairs later and only take a few minutes. Maybe not every time, depending on use, but a good practice to get in the habit. Maybe just keep it in the cab or on of the side boxes.
@royreynolds1083 жыл бұрын
@@ikbendusan I did say daily when used. This group used the backhoe just about all day when they used it and they did not grease any of the fittings, period. When the repair people say they have to cut the end off a boom because the wear exceeded the sleeve--yeah, that is excessive. At the time, the repair was about $6000 just for the backhoe and over $1500 for the truck.

Life is about having fun. You are doing great. Toys are meant to be played with and playing with your toys are by far the fastest way to learn. I like picking up quarters with the forks of a forklift and dropping it in a cup on a table. It's not only easy to win bets with, it is also fun to do.

Great deal, esp since machinery has gone through the roof in the last year. I've run a few of these in an amateur fashion, here's my tips: Get an electric grease gun and grease everything every time you use it. Put the bucket down when you use the backhoe. Get or fabricate a thumb. Change all the filters ASAP & mark them with dates/hours.

Great find Jimmy. My tip, keep it clean. I don't mean every time you get it muddy, but once a year, or every 250 hours when it gets serviced, give the entire thing a good pressure wash. It is so much easier to spot small leaks on a clean machine compared to an engine with 17 years of grime on it. The shop that I worked in that did this on everything, found so many seal and hose leaks before they became huge problems. Enjoy the tractor.

Watching you restore this machine is going to be hugely enjoyable because of your high standards of workmanship. For a mechanically well looked after, privately owned, low hours machine, this will give you decades of reliable service. You could make a hydraulic reel hose PTO like the JCB tracked machine has.

Amazingly, we've always had neighbors we could borrow backhoes from. I remember many a time my dad borrowed one to do projects around the house. I recently had a neighbor come over and dig a 40' trench for electrical cable that I had been struggling for days trying to dig with a trencher (I live in Arizona and I swear that the rocks breed here!). He dug the 40' in about an hour and charged me $40 for that. Best $40 I ever spent!

I have a 580K same era. I bought mine from a dealer. Someone had put brake fluid in the master cylinders. It ruins them as mine requires the same fluid used in the hydraulic system. I found aftermarket ones from Joseph Industries. I tend to use ebay for parts. For hydraulic cylinder seal kits I've had good luck with Hercules. All my glass is intact so it's nice to know you've had success finding replacements.

Hello , Here’s a tip since you brought up having a gravel drive . We also do and had a large yard site . The best way to level gravel , lots, etc quickly and efficiently is to pull a large steel I beam behind the backhoe. Whatever width fits your yard best . Fills holes and levels perfect without running back and forth with the loader bucket 👍

Hard to tell if you are using it, but there is a locking pin for the boom. Pull it all the way in towards the cabin and centered, and there should be a button or lever that drops a hook or pin into the boom for safety when driving it around. On some you drop the hook, then push the boom a tiny bit away to make the hook flush on the edge it's hooked on. Then reverse that procedure to unlock. I thought you did great considering it's your first time. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Great video Jimmy. Great older piece of iron that will treat you right if you treat it right. If you can find one try to get a service manual (as apposed to and operator's manual). It would make for great content to fabricate your own thumb for it. Thumbs have to be the most useful accessory for excavators. They make a product for window trim. We always called it windshield gunk at work, but it's specifically made to seal in around automotive windows and windsheilds, and is slightly flexible when it cures.
