This man led his team to 50 plus win seasons and deep playoff runs for over a decade in the West in the era filled with future hall of famers. From 1999 to 2011 only 3 teams made it out of the west, the Lakers, Spurs and the Mavs. Dirk always seemed to have lesser talent surrounding him than those other teams but never complained and took on whatever team was in front and battled their superstars toe to toe every night.

I live in San Antonio I won a contest in elementary and got court side tickets to a spurs Mavericks game in 2001. I was wearing my David Robinson jersey and Dirk came up to me and shook my hand and told me he liked my jersey. I thought he was the coolest and by the end of the season I had converted to a Mavericks fan. I remember crying my eyes out in 2003 when the Mavericks were about to take it to game 7 then Steve Kerr of all people ended their season. The 2006 finals meltdown surrounded by conspiracy. The next year with the warriors upsetting them. Fast forward to 2011 with one of the most amazing playoff runs ever. I wish I could meet dirk one more time to thank him for everything he did for the Mavericks. Having to watch him stay as we saw great teammates come and go. Thank you for doing it right. Hope he enjoys retirement and I hope he knows that everything he did is appreciated.

The King Maverick. He never left his kingdom, through thick and thim he seen it all. 2006 they blew at 2-0 finals lead. 2007 they've compiled NBA's best regular season record with 67 wins. He won MVP. But they were derailed by the We Believe Warriors in the 1st round of the playoffs. Four years on, he had his redemption versus South Beach Big 3 for his 1 and only NBA Championship. He never chased rings, he lifted his team and his city. He became a legend and revolutionize the game by being with one team. The master of one legged fadeaway. So long Dirk! Thanks for the mem'ries.
