Dirleton Castle, located in East Lothian, Scotland, has a storied history dating back to the 12th century. Originally constructed by the de Vaux family, it played a strategic role in Scotland's conflicts with England. In the 13th century, it passed into the hands of the Haliburton family, who expanded and improved the castle.
Dirleton Castle was known for its formidable defenses, including a deep pit prison. During the Wars of Independence, it changed hands between the Scots and English several times. It eventually fell into disrepair, and by the 17th century, it was abandoned as a residence.
Today, the castle stands as a well-preserved ruin, offering visitors a glimpse into medieval Scottish history and architecture.

Thanks for video. Janet and Patrick Haliburton are my 15th and 16th great grandparents. I decend from them via the Dukes of Hamilton and Earls of Lumley. These are the ancestors of my 9th great grandmother Lady Frances Hamilton Lumley. Hard to wrap my mind around it sometimes. Great video.

Hi Alessa, wow Scotland's oldest castle! The multi colors of brick dress the walls of the castle. They flatter my eyes. Indeed, thick and well constructed castle that the most of it is intact. wow, cellor..I was intimidated by the size of space, especially the height. Oh..yes, I feel it. PPL who were misjudged and lost their lives in this castle..they left their souls to be found through their stories. Alessa, Love it. Your tremendous energy to create this film is appreciated!! Thank YOU, alessa. xx

We enjoyed the Castle tour and learning some of it's history. As usual, some of it violent. But, I think that could be said for anything that survived so long. We loved seeing the inside and imagining what it must have been like! Thanks for bringing us along, Brett and Alessa.

I really wonder... why would you order a castle partially destroyed. Seems kinda lazy for a noble. Still nice that these ruins remain. I guess giving it to someone else and rebuilding new towers would have been less desirable on a pile of rubble.

Deveaux line my favorite just like they were favorit to King David,,Just like Swamp fox Francis Marion favorited Steven G Devaux, Foix married King Louis son Cucci Chateu, Chasing Foix back I find a older Veaux,,,,,I always thought Swamp Fox Marions name connects with Veaux since he was one too,,,,,,Chief Vanns Cerokee goes back to this, and Andrew Deveaux ended up on Catislands where columbus landed and owned fortune hill san salvador then preceded up to redhook nt and created the first english style park aka bard college,, running around with astors and livingstons armstrongs ect wouldnt have matterd who won a veaux would have been there. reminds me of JD Vance aka Veaux possibly one day running against kennedy another line that connects with Veaux..JD USing his moms Vance name and talking smack about her is disturbing lol

Teddy Roosvelt goes back to Peter Deveaux, search Smithsonian, peter Deveaux studied Middle Temple like other neat people,,,The famous Thomas paine received Fredrick Deveauxs land from Ben Franklin in New Rochelle,,,,,,,,,Andrew Deveaux after bahamas took Samuel ball and Daniel mcinis to oak island they were from same area and familys in SC Comingtee and Wambaw , Jas H Deveaux became the first african american Knights templar commander out of Savannah GA, I suspect some of Teddy Roosvelts allys Buffalo soldiers joined that lodge later on, and Jas H Deveauxs lodge takes care of Martin Luthers Kings house with upkeep. And later on made Martin Luther King a member after death. I could gop on for days sorry

Veaux family going back to Normandy where william the conqourer was born, If you look up St Clair DNA William the Conqouror Dna you will find Deveau has most likely to be. Veaux before that goes back to Beaux. veaux and Beaux were same...beaux france where Balthazar one of the 3 Magi settled and Beaux was his line.
