I actually enjoyed the Donut podcast stuff but that's because I've followed their channel for a handful of years now. Like, that "Up To Speed" joke that James says is a reference to a show he hosts on the channel thats called "Up To Speed" where he gives a 10-20 minute history of a car, automotive figure, or racing legend.

I honestly don't have any strong feelings towards them either way. They do their thing and that's great and all. By all means, keep doing whatever it is you're doing. Even with the context of them having a real show by the same name and especially with the context that the NFS subreddit wants to be advertised to by real personalities from real brands to "better immerse themselves in the game's world" (somehow that makes sense to them), I feel like me semi-jokingly asking if "up to speed" was somehow teasing EA buying Codemasters still works. If anything I'd say it works better now because it's a multi-tiered joke that can easily be construed as foreshadowing. Which, along with generally bringing the mood down, is kind of my MO.
