Definetly use red thread locker to keep it in place and also helps seal it up completely. Time serts are good but are kind of pricey, no doubt they are better than heli coil but heli coil if done right will hold up for years. Im doing this to my trx250r, eventually i will time sert but for now i want to try the heli coil.

I would recommend a 'Time-Sert' kit, (by Wurth), every time. It's a proper kit to do an excellent/permanent job.

@@GabrielSilver-nl6uq it depends on the size. Work out the size you want and order accordingly. They are not cheap but they are worth it.

In case anyone is reading this in a pinch before race weekend and would need to remove the motor to helicoil (yamaha), I gambled and put some black permatex silicone on my plug and let it set overnight then filled with oil and it held the whole race.

Hey man! I am having the same problem. With my 2012 CRF250R. Went to do an oil change and then found that the bolt wouldn’t tighten. I am going with a TimeSert thread repair. My bolt size is 12mmX1.5. You seem confident so I was hoping you could help with a few questions. 1- how do you know/control how deep to go as you drilled? I’m afraid of drilling too deep and ruining my case 2- how did you keep shavings out of your case? My plan is to use grease and a vacuum as I drill and then flush the pan with a lot of oil.

Jesse, thanks for reaching out to me. Honestly, I wasn't too worried with how deep to go, but you can purchase a drill bit stop that can prevent the drill from going too deep. They are simply a small collar that slides around the drill bit. You slide it down to the point you want the bit to stop and then tighten the set screw on the side of the collar. Also, as for shavings...we kept the bit oiled up which helped keep the shavings stuck to the bit. Also, after we completed the project we filled the case with oil and drained it twice to help ensure the shavings were flushed out. Good luck!

@@aliattai9436 it's just a generic thread repair kit. Helicoil makes them as do a ton of other brands. Figure out what size threads you need and order or buy whichever kit will fit what you need.

Yo doesn’t the heli coil block the oil from draining?
@manualm3552
@manualm3552 Жыл бұрын
No, it won’t. The coil is hollow. Basically the coil just builds up the sides of the case so that the bolt will go in and tighten. Hope this info helps.

Dont think he did, but if you put some sort of grease on your cutting tool and continuously keep cleaning it off it will catch the shavings

If the case is aluminum couldn’t you just screw in the bigger bolt and cut its own threads?
@JunkCCCP
@JunkCCCP 3 жыл бұрын
Using a bolt to strong arm the case into deforming is a bad idea. If you just want to use a bigger bolt, use a drill and then tap it.
