My friend has that same composting toilet (it looks identical, anyway) and the fan in his toilet runs continuously and you never hear it unless you are in the bathroom and everything is totally quiet. Also, there was no smell at all in his bathroom. Maybe the unit has a problem with the vent or fan. I like they layout and the stairs look easy to navigate, which is nice. You can complete YOUR railings, at your small house, by cutting weedy maple treees around the property, to create as many balusters as you wanted. If you dont have weedy maples, keep looking, and talk to a home owner. Taking out some branches on a weedy maple (red maple), will allow it to get bigger, and will not damage the tree.

We stayed in this dome home in 2020. It is super cute and we loved the skylight over the bed to lay and watch the stars. It was great for 2 people. Not room for a family with just one sleeping space. The bathroom is different now, it has a basic composting toilet that you have to add sawdust to after you use it. It does smell after using a few times. Unfortunately filling the bathtub is almost impossible because water pressure is terrible, it only comes out as a trickle and will only fill about 2 inches before going cold. We had a great time even so. The host was very accommodating.

Probably because it's not a $49/night AirBnB. $150/night would be the proper equation.

Please don't take this as a criticism of your philosophy at all. I appreciate your videos very much. However, I am wondering if you have ever been in a large monolithic dome home? While I appreciate the concept of a low footprint, etc, it is not realistic to expect that everyone wants to live like that. I am one of those people. Having played music my whole life, I absolutely must have a mid-size grand piano in the house. I am looking at aircrete domes but they are all small. Are there none out there that are big, say 2500 square feet or two floors with 12 square feet on the ground floor and maybe 800 square feet upstairs? Please advise!

Cool house, I would have done a small septic system. Those mechanical composting toilets never work out. My neighbors have one and they have a separate urine drain. It still smells though.
@ZeoCyberG6 жыл бұрын
No, if it smells then they're not doing it right then, just like any other waste management it has to be done properly. Like, if you don't do a Septic system right then it'll fail and spew sewage all over the property... Could be they installed the fan backwards, or they're using the wrong kind of cover/bulking material or not using anything... Or what they have isn't really a composting toilet. People tend to confuse composting toilets with deification toilets but they're not the same thing... Or perhaps they placed it too close to another vent... Toilet fan is very small so a bigger and more powerful vent can overwhelm it and reverse the air flow. Besides, septic can't be done everywhere, need the right kind of soil conditions, and it's not portable... Add, if you got a well then it can't be near that either and you can't have anything heavy above it as well... Will eventually cost more because it'll need to be serviced like every 2 years or so and it has to be sized for max number of people, which if that ever increases then you have to dig it back up and upgrade it at additional cost... Worse case, a septic system failure can ruin the property but a composting failure can usually be easily fixed... Really, properly working and operated composting toilets should not smell...
@johnf88776 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. My neighbor has a Sun-Mar toilet. Maybe it isn't a composting toilet. I know it smells.
@ZeoCyberG6 жыл бұрын
Sun-Mar should be a composting system, but like anything manufactured it can be defective or more likely just user error... There's a number of youtube channels with people who regularly use composting toilets and report no smell issues and proper composting at the very least should release far fewer gasses into the air than regular decomposition of waste material would. Like Fy Nyth is a good channel to see someone living off-grid in a Tiny House for about three years now and she uses a Nature's Head composting toilet... Though, she's considering going with a DIY when she moves to her own property because of the cost... FitRV have been using their's in their Van for over 2 years now... They actually had a initially good but ended up terrible experience when trying a cassette/porta potti... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qV69aXeap9mojNE Mind, the chemicals put into those are suppose to eliminate odor but the instructions aren't always accurate to how much you should use... Lots of other examples too... While not all composting toilets are the container types... There's actually flushable versions that send everything into a remote composting bin and you never have to touch it until it's finished composting. Some public places even use them, like the Bronx Zoo... While some have done their own flush composting system using vermi-composting...

@@sqweezjy It's not trade marked because monolithic and geodesic are not the same. Geodesic refers to the shape. Geodesic has similar stability to Monolithic dome homes, but the dome has a more angular shape. This is why they are called Geodesic homes. Monolithic homes come from Russia. The Ancients carved their homes out of solid stone. The AirBnB in this video is definitely Geodesic.
