Mike, you have longer videos sometimes, but when things are moving right along, I don't really notice the time. Felling trees and digging stumps runs into like watching pain dry sometimes. Your choice of a little rag time tunes was different. I watched my grandfather use his transit and stick numerous times. I was too young to truly learn what or how to do what he needed. It amazes me watching you and Chris run the blade or even floating the bucket across the ground and y'all call it a 1/4 or 1/2 an inch +/- grade. Yesterday Chris was running the small road grader they have and he slicked off the dirt around the building like icing a cake. That is what you and Chris do for a living and you should be good. That is why I watch both of you. Both of you explain what your objective is, how you are going to accomplish it, perform it and tidy up any loose ends afterwards. You just make them how ever long you need or want to, make a part 1, 2 or even 3 on a long job. A long video takes longer to edit too remember.

I’m in the process of putting in a 900’ road in my woods. I’ve scraped up about 600 yards of fill with my tractor loader over the late part of the winter. I’m going to rent a n excavator to do the loading and watching the Volvo with the blade I think that’s what I’m going to get. I had a Cat304 and rented a bigger bobcat but they just didn’t impress me much. Thanks for the information on your new Volvo. It’s helped me a lot in my decision making Mike. In my honest opinion the longer the video the better. Never get tired of watching your videos. Thanks buddy

Especially on a smaller machine that ripper is definitely the way to go. I found that it just requires a different technique. Once I figured that out I fell in love with the ripper but, you are correct about raking up debris after the trees are down. I usually take the trees down and then switch to my biggest bucket to clean up the site. That Volvo is a nice machine.
@DirtPerfect4 жыл бұрын
I guess my ? Is why switch If the bucket will do the work
@blackdogexcavator214 жыл бұрын
@@DirtPerfect in my situation running smaller machines it makes sense. Its easier on my machine, its quicker, and I can get more dirt off the stumps. Thats especially important if I have to haul the stumps off since I have a smaller truck and need to be concerned about weight. Plus, I like not having to dig such a big hole around the tree. I guess the ripper isn't the solution for everyone but I love using it. Its a time saver for me.

Hey, mr.DirtPerfect, I really think that the ripper attachment that you made works just fine. I think you are just digging way to close to the tree. If you stay like 2 feet away from the base of the tree and RIP I think you'll have alittle better luck. You'll be ripping a smaller part of the root, intern that should be easier for the ripper. If you are just wanting it to work like a saw well then your going to have to sharpen and cut a blade like a saw buddy. Wish ya the best of luck. Stay safe/healthy and keep the content coming buddy.

Just wondering but when using the ripper (which I think works really good) maybe not get so close to the tree where the roots are the thickest. Move the ripper or bucket a little further out to catch the roots where they are a little thinner and cut through them. You can always inch your way closer, just a thought. As far as length of videos I enjoy them a lot, you do a great job of presenting them to the viewers and as one other person stated there is a pause button to watch the whole thing later. We normally use a 2ft bucket for stumping. Be a good investment. From what I see the ripper actually seems to work pretty good. Even the hook angle and teeth on the shank for that application seem to work good from what I see. A smooth straighter shank wouldn’t grab ahold of the roots quite as well. Now as far as moving trees around not so much. Might work too keep both bucket and ripper working together. Rip and push down so many trees then grab the bucket once you got as far as you could and pile em up/clean up

Love your 140 Mike. I know you said your blade doesn't float. I thought the same with mine until one of your subscribers taught me how to float. Just for ships and grins...….try to quickly jam your blade lever forward until you bump past what feels like a detent stop. I tore my control pedal assembly down today. Machine wasn't tracking and giving me power on the right side. Hydraulic psi is great to the final drive but, the motion control levers are sticking. I can correct the sticking by wiggling the levers then all is fine. I don't know, but it seems to be an issue with the electromagnetic proximity switches causing the pedals to bind up. I'm open to Mechanic Perfect's suggestions

I never had as nice of equipment, they have made some huge improvements on them in the last thirty years. I have ran any and all pieces of equipment. I think that the best thing I had going was my wife was a better driver than me and I ain't no slouch. I seen her back doubles up like it was the family boat trailer and she did it on docks. Our yard had the nicest loading dock and you didn't have to crawl up a corrugated deck an possibly lose it on a frosty morning. I would load the cat, an old six that is the size of a new four now, and then get in my pickup and tote on the fifth wheel our little excavator. I know it was the smallest cat I have ever run but it was ruthless and smooth so no complaints and get to a sight. The wife brought fuel, our service truck and that little dozer and we both could run either but she liked the excavator best so she got it and it had ropes, the cat didn't. We could work together and get a lot done in a day. I would take logs off sight on the low boy loaded and she drove to the yard and threw the straps around under the load an parbuckle the load off and come back saving me lots of clean up time. we are talking late seventies an some eighties. I had me a hundred five pound fire cracker an good partner.

30minutes is a good length, but I will watch just about whatever you got, because I am a geek about this content, and I have no life. I think you have a good tree/stump attachment, just needs to be modified a little bit. It has already been commented on, but the curve of the shank at the ripper tooth needs to be less curved, and less aggressive saw teeth, and maybe the teeth alternating offset slightly. Hell I don't know, the extent of my equipment operation is a 40hp 4-Drive rubber tire tractor with a loader. Great video. Thank you sir.

start close to you and work away with a ripper, then you can use the roots behind the ripper to pry the ripper through the roots you are pulling through just like a pry bar. I carry a ripper on my trailer everywhere I go. Great tool as you said less ground disturbance.

I'm just getting to this video and I have told you before that I have no clue about being an excavator, but I had an idea about "the ripper". Would it be possible to make it a duel blade the width of the thumb on the 140 instead of the single blade? Would that give you more ripping power as well as more stability for moving the trees out of your way? As well as swiping dirt back in the hole the stump leaves? Just a thought...it may not be possible at all, but I wanted to comment and see what you thought.
@arneservatius86864 жыл бұрын
Take your stump cutter and remove barbs. Weld new piece of cold rolled steel 1 inch thick on face then grind a ax blade down full length of grabber very sharp. That will do all the damage you want. Michigan

First to comment! LOL! FYI, a hardwood tree is a tree that sheds it's leaves in the fall. A softwood tree retains it's leaves (aka needles) all year long. I sold lumber for many, many years and that's the definition of hardwood and softwood trees. Although, many softwood trees have denser, harder wood versus a hardwood tree. Such as Southern Yellow Pine is much harder and stronger then Aspen or Cottonwood trees.

I like your ingenuity to make your own implement ripper. I think a straight blade would be best for a direct pull. Teeth require a reciprocating motion to be effective. Small teeth are better for cross-cutting such that you mist did in this video.
