I have this same tire Carrier and I love it!! I also have a 37” on it, I am not a fan of the exposed areas around the hinges but I put some foam take around it and sealed it off somewhat

I really think it's unfair to say a 37 is too heavy for the JL. I think if you had it mounted up against the rubber bumpers it would be fine. I've had a 37 inch on mine for over 2 and a half years and it does not bounce or shake, and the gate opens and closes just fine, without making any adjustments. And I'll continue to run it this way to prove my point, the JL tailgate it as strong or stronger than any aftermarket offering. In my opinion, ofcourse. I do have the Teraflex tire carrier so I could relocate it so it does sit properly against the bumpers, which is where I think many people get confused as to why their new wheel and tire bounce and shakes. If your changing the offset thats why. That is why the rubber bumpers are there after all. Also a contact point that matters is the latch and wedge just below, when its closed, that takes a lot the weight when driving as well, why is there not an upgrade for the latch? If anything I'd rather upgrade the latch. There's other stuff I didn't agree with, but I'm nitpicking at that point. Thanks for sharing, the gate looks cool.

As sturdy as this tire carrier seems, I'm concerned about having an open area exposed to the elements around the hinges where they go into to mount the carrier. Does Motobilt offer a solution for this?

18:26 Do they supply a (for the lack of a better term) gasket to seal the new hinges to the body? There looks to be a huge gap there. I do like that it pulls the tire in closer to the body. It does make me wonder- if you need TWO people to mount the spare, maybe you went a little too big?

I was looking at this tire carrier. My issue is just how much weight can it hold. They couldn't give me an answer. I have a trail trekker II fuel cell on the back plus spare tire. I need something that can handle roughly 215lbs. If you have a recommendation I'd love to hear it.
