I have used Version 1 on my Stumpy for almost two years now. Don't be deterred by the price; it is absolutely worth it. It still fits the bike perfectly despite all that time and weekly bike washing. It looks good too. I think this product makes for a perfect gift for a friend or family member who uses homemade protection.

100% agree! I had aV1 installed on my Stumpy EVO and now Dirtskirt V2 installed on three different bikes! The design and quality of materials is very good. I would never ride my bikes without one installed. Highly recommended company and products!

Adhesive velcro (hook side). Two sections cut to length and stuck together. Use sections of the loop side stuck to frame to stick the ones you cut to length to frame. Have had this on my Intense, forever. Costs $.50

Great review, amazing product that resolves an industry wide Non-Warranty rider nightmare! I have them installed on all my bikes. The materials and design are very high quality and the lower part of the skirt features engineered downward pressure keeping the linkage gap closed as it pivots together with the swingarm. Highly recommended for peace of mind while out riding not having to worry about damaging or cracking expensive bike frames.

I cut a piece of packaging foam to fill the gap on my Ripmo AF, an idea I got on the MTBR Ripmo forums. It has done the trick so far.

Orbea has this standard on most of their bikes 👍👍
@BradSmith-s1w2 ай бұрын
Orbea only started providing some factory protection form 2024-25 model year bikes onwards on their analog mtb models. The main reason they have is because NO bike brand will Warranty any damage claim due to trapped rocks in lower linkages. Protecting your lower linkage is arguably the most important region of the bike to protect for this reason. Great video by Clint and awesome that foxfolk have created a product that resolves a Non-Warranty industry wide matter for all the bike brands which don't provide any linkage protection.

Great videos. Do you have any videos explaining how to wash and maintain a carbon bike? I just recently purchased a stumpjumper comp. It’s my first carbon frame and I want to know the best way to clean it and service it. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks, Clint.
@edrcozonoking2 ай бұрын
You can achieve the same with a small bit of inner tube and 3M double sided tape for pennies.
@kenetics13442 ай бұрын
Another advantage is not having all the dirt and debris get stuck in that gap. It's a real pain to clean in there and wash everything out
@AllCreaturesCount2 ай бұрын
$45? This type of price gouging is what makes bikers look like idiots. Make your own with some 3M tape and a small piece of plastic. It is not rocket science.
@BradSmith-s1w2 ай бұрын
if you understood injection molding or manufacturing you would understand the cost to bring a product like this to market - the tooling cost alone would be around $40k to set up. Proper R&D product design dev takes a ton of time and enormous costs

I'd put some tape underneath to stop paint scratches
@BradSmith-s1w2 ай бұрын
Good idea. No harm in addding some tape however the Dirtskirt V2 is made from soft rubber and the lower inside edge touching the swingarm has a nice rounded off radius on it so doesn't scratch frames - very well resolved product with many of these finer details not visible in this video.
@AndreLaurentMTB2 ай бұрын
Interesting but here's the question, for us far up north and down south folks that ride into freezing temps, how does the material this product is made of stand up??? Does it maintain the fit as the rear suspension moves, does it harden and break or scratch the bike finish? With winter around the corner it sure would be nice to know before dropping the $. Fatbike season is soon but there's still skinny time on the trails.....
@ClintGibbs2 ай бұрын
It’s very soft so I don’t think it would be an issue. But then again I don’t ride in Canada in the winter! I have never had an issue with it scratching the bike. It’s pretty much like putting frame saver tape on your bike.
@Airboy1232 ай бұрын
Looks like the plastic piece is just going to scrape back and forth on the swangarm behind the pivot, as it goes through it's travel?
@BradSmith-s1w2 ай бұрын
Nope, it's made from soft frame friendly rubber and the bottom inside edge has a nice rounded off radius edge. There is no rubbing that occurs. If you were remotely worried about rubbing just add a piece of clear Ridewrap on the frame.
@Airboy1232 ай бұрын
@@BradSmith-s1w It looks like a nice piece but $45 is a bit much. I just cut a piece of old inner tube and zip-tied it to the seat tube by the pivot. Works a bit like an apron.

The original Dirt Skirt was a large washer-type thing that installed below the bearing race on BMX forks designed to keep dust/dirt out of the headset bearings. I tried to link to a picture, but that gets your comment rejected apparently.

hi Clint, a bit off topic here but if you can, could you test something for me, i have a set of gemini titan 4000 lights and the battery has failed, i cannot find a replacement, could you test if the magicshine batterys work with the titan 4000? do you still have your review set? the battery connection is the same, this would be very much appreciated as the last thing i want to do is throw away my titan 4000's because i can't find a battery to run them, The battery spec is nearly exactly the same

@paul--b2 ай бұрын
$45 for one size fits none, isn’t all that appealing. It’s still going to let small rocks in on a lot of frames.
@BradSmith-s1w2 ай бұрын
I have V2 installed on five different bikes, yes fine dust will pass through but that's not what causes damage, damage only occurs once a certain size rock gets into the frame gap, no rocks get in at all with V2 installed - very well resolved design and high quality products.

Nice product idea but $45 for a piece of plastic that costs about $1.00 tops? No freaking way. Even with marketing it should be $15-$20 max. I'll use a small piece of flexible plastic that everyone has lying around the house and put some 3M tape on it.
@BradSmith-s1w2 ай бұрын
The product is a fully injection molded design manufactured to a level higher than your average OEM. The tooling cost alone would be around $40k. Then there's all the IP costs as it has been patented worldwide, branding, ecommerce, fulfilment, logistics, manufacturing, legals. The cost of the Dirtskirt represents 0.7% of the cost of my $6k bike - well worth the money for a well designed product that resolves a non-warranty rider headache. A replacement cracked carbon frame would cost me $3,000 - Absolute no brainer.
@AllCreaturesCount2 ай бұрын
So explain why there are millions of cheap injected molded plastics on the market. Not sold. Are you a shareholder? Someone trying to validate this high price must have a vested interest.
@pshoeweb2 ай бұрын
My thoughts exactly re cost. I figured $20-25. I was planning to buy and clicked the link, then saw the price. Sorry, that price seems way too high IMO. Maybe I’ll pull the trigger down the road, but I’ve got to at least acclimate to that price point before doing so. Maybe a no brainer for some, but not for me🤷♂️
@AllCreaturesCount2 ай бұрын
I think they are betting that people with expensive bikes will buy it at that price. If they drop to $20 Ill consider it. Otherwise, I am seriously going to cut a piece of flexible plastic and 3M tape it on...
