Flea Market Restorations

Күн бұрын

I bought this Zenith pocket watch recently at a flea market. It's from the 1918 according to the movement serial number. It has Grand Prix Paris 1900 signed on the inner lid which refers to a special edition to commemorate the awards won on that occasion.
Watch repair details:
👉 The watch was very dirty and needed a detailed movement cleaning and case polishing.
👉 Crown tube was broken and needed a replacement.
👉 Crystal was damaged and I replaced it with a brand new mineral glass.
I noticed some of you ask me if I regulate my watches. Sure I do, but I do it in my way. I used to have a timegrapher but I sold it. Now I wind them up, mark the time and do the adjustments based on the 24h time during the span of several days. Deadlines are not an issue for me since I don't do service for others but only for my own collection.
Thanks for watching. If you have time, tell me what you think in the comment below the video. If you liked my video please do me a favor and press like and subscribe buttons to support my work.

I love your videos, just nice and honest watch restoration without a single £15,000 watch cleaning machine in sight, keep em coming

Sorry to be critical. Too much oil. You should wind the mainspring down before you remove the balance/pallet fork or you could cause damage. I don't know why you glue the crystal in that way... there is a rebate in the front case to apply glue into. The jewel you 'glued in' should be 'rubbed in', glue really isn't a permanent solution.

Or at least replace it with a friction fit one. Burnished in jewels are a hassle, you have to have one that’s exactly Rehe right thickness, because that will determine your endshake. This definitely isn’t a professional restoration. On another video he just punched out the balance staff with a stake. But as far as I understand these are his own watches. It’s more about being entertaining I think. I’ve never seen a watch that dirty, so somebody either had to get these over the border in a very dark place 🍑 or he dirtys them to make the restoration effect better...

Great job! We do the same thing. Nothing better than picking up an old, forgotten hunk of rust and submerging it in the fountain of youth :) Enjoyed watching (no pun intended).

8:15 that’s a rusty minute wheel... if you rinse your parts with water always put them in either isopropyl (hydrophilic, so it dissolves the water) or in your benzine (hydrophobic, the water will collect on the bottom as little pearls) or they will flash rust before your eyes. And like other people said, glueing in the jewel is Pfusch as we like to say in germany. And be a bit less generous with the oiler.

Just bought one like this. I'll use your video as a guide. Any advice on where to get replacement parts. I haven't torn my down yet but I can see it is missing a clicker and some case screws. Hvala puno.

Hello there, i just watched your Zenith 1918 video from 2 years ago. I just bought a similar pocket watch with the same markings...Grand prix 1900, the movement is fairly clean but needs a service, thats for sure. The dial is fairly good. However, its got no hands,no stem and crown. Any idea as to where to start looking for these parts, apart from donor movements and ebay?? Im retired now too hence im doing repairing again....just for me only now. Thank you. I live in Australia. Merry Christmas (26/12/23)

Svaka čast, odlicno je ispao. Svidja mi se i kako je montiran snimak. Svako dobro.
