Should Mario get another chance? A human had to press the button so they expect you to look before pressing it again. I can't think of a use case where you'd accidently get your finger caught in the frunk, it getting saved, then you immediately press the button, and get your finger stuck in again. It seems very logical that you might have an oversized bag that you might need to hit the button twice to get it to close. I think this is a great design. Its sensitive but allows you to give your bags a squeeze if you really want.
@catbert7
@catbert7 25 күн бұрын
You don't have to catch your finger in it multiple times, it just has to be the right time. If you were trying to squish a bunch of bags in there, e.g., and it took a few tries, and you're holding the bags down until the last second, and you get clumsy on the third try... Really, if you have something blocking the trunk from closing, having the trunk force its way through is just not a good idea, even if it's causing damage to your belongings rather than your fingers. Just clear the blockage and keep the trunk safe.
@gadgetmerc

@@catbert7 I fell like I need to remind everyone that coffee is hot and could burn you. There is already at least one video of a finger after a couple presses. It's doing less than a finger slammed in the door. We still allow people to close doors manually so settle down.

6:38 it's actually a great move. I sometimes try and fit my luggage in multiple times, and it won't close because it's too sensitive. Now if I do it multiple times it realizes that it's intentional and I WANT it to push down hard and latch. Much better this way.

Closing a frunk or trunk requires some force as it's a heavy object with a crash proof latch. It isn't surprising that it will cut fruits and vegetables. Someone should try this on a car with a manual frunk so that the person closing the frunk doesn't know whether there's something in between or not. I can tell you the result already: Everything will be cut.

I think the algorithm forcing retries isn't that unreasonable since needing to detect slight pressure nearing the hinges means that it can be falsely stopped very easily in a lot of scenario, and there's almost no risk of human still not being aware of the closing after the first few tries... well, except for people deliberately testing the algorithm with their fingers, I guess.

Thank you for doing the comparison to power back hatch of existing cars. There's too many how horrible the pinch will be (which OTA update reduced the pinch) but it really is similar to many existing power hatch cars. Tesla really should advertise their OTA records on new features added through OTA for Tesla built from 2020 on to show in comparison how many feathers are added by ICE cars (BIG ZERO) and other EVs. Plus they should also advertise how safe the tesla cars are with the crash in hwy 1 and the recent 7 flip roll over in china, no one died when almost any other cars will be tragic. They should advertise facts, like how cheap is to maintain the cars by owners.

The same issue has been years ago on TV, not even made big news, in Germany. Like just some random article, that those problems did happen to softclosing doors at BMW and every other brand, cutting off fingers. That could happen if you get out on the streetside, close your door a little to let traffic pass and pushed it a little too far... Your finger still inside it... I think I've seen that like 10 years ago or more? This didn't make it to the like prime time news or anything, but you can see that problem isn't just what Tesla had to face. I'm not even sure if they entirely fixed it, I just can guess so. How ever, its not like Tesla is the first car manufacturer with that issue, just the first one getting a lot headlines of it.

6:47 a I would describe the decisions that went into a progressively strokes and more persistent close force as good, and makes sense. Look: anyone can hurt themselves with anything if they want to. Tesla is designing the system to function well under normal use cases with normal-minded people. Most people who pinch a finger in a door will do it a few times throughout their life, but not many. Most instances involving a potential finger squish in this frunk will happen only once, on the lightest setting. If someone is trying to close the frunk with an object inside such as luggage or other common inanimate item, at least to me, a progressively stronger close force makes sense. It gives plenty of time for someone to have a gentle reminder to not put their finger(s) there, and then gets down to the business of closing more strongly when people have had time to move their hand out of the way.

OMG just seeing her head near that corner 😨 they should've just done a much cheaper and more useful top opening funk where you can dump a lot more gear in. I know this is for soccer mom shopping but how much time and energy did they spend on the "grand reveal" of a semi useless storage area?

Tesla really needs to improve this. Totally agree with Chris, it shouldn't be increasing pressure just because it failed to close on first attempt, it should never be increasing pressure, especially with those metal edges. Edit: I've now watched to the end, interesting that model Y is similar, so perhaps it's not so serious (presumably people aren't getting injured on M.Y) but still, it feels like the Cyber's frunk is easier to reach and more dangerous with those thinner/sharper edges, hopefully I'm wrong.

It’s increasing force if someone is repeatedly trying to close. This is, for example, if your bag is a little too big. It takes an intentional effort to override. It’s fine, and useful.

Yeah I can’t see a situation where someone is getting there body part repeatedly closed on. You’d obviously see them the first time and then stop

@@spleck615 If you're struggling to fit a bag in the frunk of a CT, maybe you need to rent a U-haul. Iv had my Tesla for 2 years now and only open the frunk to refill windshield wiper fluid. There's so much space in the trunk and sub trunk. Not to mention if you fold the back seats down.. I cant imagine having a 6ft covered truck bed and still needing to use the tiny frunk for something.

@@Buggabones and if you’re struggling to keep your finger safe after repeated attempts maybe you should stick with a Volvo? All equally valid opinions.

@@spleck615 Lol true though. This would be like if people were sticking their hands in the engine and getting them hurt by the compressor fan. I opened my ICE hood far more than I do my Tesla. Theres far more dangerous shit inside an engine bay than a frunk. Hell, iv had hoods fall on my head while working on the engine before. People will always find something to nag tesla about.

Lol, a video your kids finally think is fun. Of course it would be when you're doing something that could break or chop fingers. 🙄

The algorithm makes complete sense... it's not made for having your finger in the pinch point, it's made for a large bag like one full of pillows that stops it from closing... it's made to be safe for someone who has their hand in the gap. If you put your hand in the pinch point four times, it's on you. 🤣
