Lelee DaDutchess Spoild My wish is that authorities would oblige all houses to be built to very accessible standards and for at least a significant proprioception to be totally suitable for all. It's not actually all that hard. The people have the info on their own design needs as do many relevant workers so you gather the info together. And I wish the authorities provided grants so home owners and landlords could adapt their homes so that people wouldn't be excluded from moving out and renting like everyone else can and so people could adapt their own homes before they ever get disabled or old so that they're not trapped in hospital or a nursing home should​ something happen and also if they sell, wheelchair users aren't excluded from moving in.

Beautiful, I need info on green home because of disability immune system causing chronic infection antibiotics building up resistance which I will need incase of trasplant issues and need surgery i fear that.. Id heard green home is good for living in a healthy environment

Dang, this channel hasn't been active in five years. I was going to ask if they could make a similar video to this only with someone who is blind. Does anyone know where I could find something like that? My boyfriend is nearly blind and I want to see what I can do to help him if we move in together.

I know - I’m absolutely desperate to find somewhere safe and age appropriate for myself to leave. I have less than 3% vision, and I’m in a wheelchair. My current living conditions below what the Geneva convention would consider my human rights being breached.. But there are no decent options - no unless you’re rich: if anybody knows of anything please let me know... I wish you the best of luck with your boyfriend.. Possibly with someone fully sighted helping him and not chronically ill like I am (I am in an out of hospital a lot), you should have better luck than me..

@@rachelchristensen9326 Oh my god I'm so sorry! He has about 10% in either eye. He has a lot of other illnesses on top of it, but he's known as the cockroach because somehow he's still going despite how it should be impossible that he's alive, much less looking mostly normal at first glance (other than being mistaken for being 14 because of his dwarfism. That follows him wherever he goes.) I hadn't realized how little accommodations there are for disabilities until I started going out with him. Thankfully neither of us can stand living alone, so when we move out it'll be together. Vision is the only sense I'm really good with so it balances out. I hope you can find something to help. If I find anything in the future I'll let you know.

There are heaps of different things that can help someone with limited vision live independently - the best is technology. Ironically, things like Google home are great! There are certainly many adaptive things like Waze that you can mark the stove or oven: so that you can judge the temperature. Just as you can get things like a water level indicator which as you fill the cup with liquid once it gets to a certain level near the top it beeps on. Your closest leave vision service would be most helpful for example I’m in Australia, we have Vision Australia which used to be real Victorian Institute for the blind. Or GUIDE DOGS Australia. Places like that are best suited well vision specific products. As I have visual problems and physical I eat right now I am dictating this - are used to be able to type as fast as my uni lecturer could talk. But now my hands have gone downhill but in a different way to my legs. I can still use my hands but just highly limited. So typing very slow for me is infuriating! For example I wasn’t taught to hand write. I was taught to Touch tonight - so you can see way doing that slate would drive me nuts, hence Apple fills the gap there, thank you Siri! Same as are used to have to buy a computer, then spend a couple more grand on a speech synthesiser, Now I can just go and buy an Apple device in and use the accessibility feature (which isn’t just for blind people they have them where it makes buttons larger, say people who have great dexterity problems with their hands - without the accessibility function I would be stuffed!). Love the cockroach - that’s hilarious! I’m amazed I didn’t nickname me that I 20 years ago the day I lost the primary use of my legs as they had to call six code blues, followed by a few more - I was obviously destined to live for a purpose, I will find what that is... it’s just not making itself that obvious right now

The use of the word Handicap is not politically correct and most Disabled (like myself) find the word very negative and condescending. Disability covers the whole spectrum of both physical and mental health issues of which some have both. GB ✌🏻☯️

Why do able bodied people choose to walk when they could Segway around? Because they are able to, are more independant & it is better for their health. The exact same reasons apply to most people who are able to self propell in a manual wheelchair. For things like going up a large hill, going on long walks or other irregular events there are wheelchair gadgets to make it easier. Including a front wheel & motor you can attach to the wheelchair to make it electric, or a thing similar to those electric bikes, where whatever energy you put in, it gives you 3 times the effort back to propell you, or you charge up batteries with kinetic energy so you can free wheel for a while. For the majority of activities these are not needed & the reduction in effort is not worth the deterioration in health.
