I think they folded under the pressure of Charles’ complaints after the Queen’s death & edited the show to make Charles more sympathetic because he’s desperate to be liked while Queen Elizabeth wasn’t afraid to be disliked.

I think the reason they emphasized so much on Charles and Diana was because their drama dominated the 90s. Elizabeth is a complex character like a lot of royals. She's not 1 dimension and they probably tried to show some questionable decisions. In my opinion, it would have been better if they'd have done a whole decade including her Diana's death. Putting everything except that made it feel long and drawn out.
