I tought for a while that the cut was made to those pokemon that weren't relevant to the region's ecosystem, like pokemon from Alola wouldn't be native to Galar, for example, but there are a lot of pokemon from Alola in Galar's pokedex and there's the galarian corsola that would make sense to exist if the region was based in Australia and not the UK, so I really don't understand why Game Freak decided to include pokemon like Pyukumuku t and not others that would be relevant to the region like Stantler and/or Deerling

The comments about Ekans don't even make any sense anyway. Ekans wasn't in Hoenn, Sinnoh or Unova, and generally if you're playing gen 3-5, you have to wait until the end of the game to be able to transfer things from older games, which means it's only relevant if you're talking about competitive play. It's not relevant at all for the majority of the actual game. And that's why complaints about Dexit in general don't make any sense... bringing Pokemon from older games isn't really relevant for most people.

"Cut the dex and make a whole new one" They tried that in Gen V. That was the Gen where people accused Pokemon of running out of ideas. It sounds good on paper, but in practice, Pokemon are part of the environment, not an interchangeable roster of characters, and removing them from that environment means that others need to be added. Although, you know what else Gen V did? Let the rest of the Dex back in after you beat the game. That's all any of us whose faves were cut is asking for, being able to use the rest of the dex as post-game content.

There is quite a large irony about the entire thing though.... Is the wildlife in the UK the same as the wildlife in Spain? To an extent, but not entirely. Sw/Sh is 'Britian' Sun/Moon were 'Hawaii' like, that's actually a thing lol Personally I think the full dex should open up in some way post-game, ironically the wild areas are a perfect way to do that, have us take a train to some off-shore wild area that's huge and can spawn every non-legendary 'mon depending on variables, no need to stop main-game players receiving them in trade because badge/level restriction stops them being OP anyway... There are so many ways they could have made it work seamlessly and just didn't... I'm more annoyed that they justified the cut dex by saying they weren't reusing models... Something Jim didn't mention but is the first thing you'll see on Reddit & Quite a few comments here too lol

Yeah but what good does the rest of the Nat Dex do after you beat the game? Let's be real - you can't even use 75% of Pokemon in the main game. They're there for the post-game and the post-game is almost entirely multiplayer. Solution is pretty simple - some games with single-player focus with an occasional one with updates that is multiplayer focused.

The issue is that X and Y had the same development time as Sword and Shield, but had to make models for over 700 Pokémon, and had more content than a game released over 6 years later at $20 cheaper.

And this is why GF's insistence that they cut Pokemon to focus on what's important doesn't hold water. They cut other stuff too, not just Pokemon, and I'm sorry, but as hard as it sounds to fit so many Pokemon in a game, if a handheld game can do it, it's not unreasonable to assume that a Switch game should be able to do it too, and with the new Pokemon to boot!

There's just one problem: They DIDN'T make new models for over 700 Pokemon. Before the games' release, various game developers had said the excuse made no sense and that they absolutely should have been able to just carry over the old models. And after the games' release, data miners took out the models, compared them to the ones from the previous games, and were able to conclude that they had absolutely been imported from the previous games. Game Freak lied. Which is to imply that their REAL reason for limiting the Pokedex is something which they knew in advance we would react to negatively.

Digital Unity it’s actually a lot. Base stats make up the bulk of what you can do with a pokemon at it’s absolute limits. If your value is 150 and the reduce it to 140 then the overall maximum potential is reduced by a minimum of 6.67%. Some pokemon are meant to be stronger than others, it isn’t a real life example or anything, it’s just how games and systems work. That’s the ethos of a meta

Honestly though its double kick that's a low hanging fruit to put it mildly. It's a very weak move most mons learn before level 15 and gets replaced by another move within an hour of learning it. There are tons more effective beautifully animated attacks that we ignore because the internet told you to be mad about double kick. I guarantee if it was wasnt in the trailer like 8 people would be complaining about the animation, but that's just my opinion I just like the game and want to rant.

I'd say the Pokemon series peaked at gen 4 or 5. That was when they were still refining their battle system in a non-gimmicky way, and they still had a proper in-game endgame area for people who enjoyed the game but didn't want to play it competitively. I can mostly forgive X and Y because upgrading every Pokemon into 3d polygons probably took a lot of the development time, but Sun and Moon were regressions in most ways that mattered (they even removed triple and rotation battles in Sun and Moon). And from what I've seen, Sword and Shield are even more of a regression.

The quality has stayed the same, has arguably gotten worse in some areas, while the quantity of content has gotten progressively smaller. I can guarantee you Dexit would've been forgiven in a heartbeat if the game looked as good and was as content rich as games like dragon quest or xenoblade. Instead what we got was am upscaled 3DS game and *_they still refuse to have the goddamn common courtesy to bring back the battle frontier at the very least_*

Animations for Hau have been put onto Hop, for instance. Nailed it. Dexit was the straw that broke the camel's back due to a litany of grievances that have been plaguing the series for years. There were murmurs of discontent in XY due to the easier campaign and lack of postgame content that only got louder and louder with each new release. Now that GameFreak is expecting us to pay $60 for a glorified 3DS game that's sliced and diced the content we've come to expect from the series, fans have had enough. Genius Sonority made much more impressive Pokémon games for consoles 13-16 years ago. That is unacceptable.

If you are referencing that Black and white wireframe image that was making the rounds that was from an unsubstantiated post on 4chan, which would have been incredibly easy to mock up if you have any knowledge of 3d rendering at all. I'm not saying they aren't reusing the models, but frankly given the truncated dev cycle, the engine change and the small size of Game Freak's dev team I totally buy the idea that they just didn't have enough time to actually finish in time for the annual release. If there is any blame to be placed I'd honestly put it at the feet of the Pokemon company for requiring an annual release Assassin's Creed style to coincide with the anime.

Also remember gamfreak does not use a directory properly making many many duplicate textures and models to do something as simple as a texture change it calls on a duplicate model assigned to a different texture and every route has its own sepret directory with its own duplicate copies of npcs taking up space instead of just using the same model and all the Pokemon use the essentially the same model just duplicated many times because game freak can't be bothered to add scaling or animations and rather the model change then animate it holding a pose slouch as mimiku neck snapping. All this to say that game should not be 9 gigs

Kids deserve the best experience that they can get out of life and that applies to video games as well. I’ve complained about this same thing too. Companies like The Pokémon Company and GameFreak know that they can put less quality in their products because they’ll know that kids will eat it up anyways since kids are impressionable and are in a blissful state of ignorance. When businesses like them know this, then they can manipulate children all they want, alongside nostalgia-blinded individuals, those with rose-tinted glasses, shills, normies, memers, etc. I find that to be a shitty and scummy excuse as to why developers won’t bother to put genuine effort and passion into anything they make. It’s pure manipulation, plain and simple. GameFreak has clearly manipulated everyone in between on the topic of Sword and Shield for the benefit of their rushed, backwards, and mediocre product. Like manipulating the name of a certain celebrity in order to purposefully create more hype to get people to throw money at them for their rushed out garbage.

What people seem not to understand is that people are pissed that Gamefreak lied to them... If GAmefreak didn't lie, even the National Dex would just be another thing that they cut from the game, rather than such a controversy. Of course... moving to the Switch with games like BotW and Odyssey, which reinvigorated those franchises, while Pokemon didn't just makes things worse. Then you're getting him with the whammy of everything else that Pokemon is removing (Megas, Z-Moves, actual moves, etc...).

Zoroark’s my favorite Pokémon, I love their lore, sprites and models, hecking everything about them. Black and white practically centered around them, even getting a full MOVIE for em, so much representation, yet zoroark’s been cut from the game Lucario has practically the same attention, but they’re a smash bro’s fighter, so they get a by. Still don’t understand why game freak’s forced to decide who’s in, and who’s cut, only for the game to lack so much anyway This might be bias, but why not make a new Pokémon game similar to gen 4 or 5? Maybe game freak should focus on remakes for a few years and leave the main line games aside for a while. Yes we won’t get new Pokémon for maybe a decade, but we already have 1000+ Pokémon, i think we should be covered.

The *BIGGEST* problem with 'Dexit' is that Game Freak created 'futureproof' 3D models of every previous Pokémon in the last Generation, and then this Generation directly stated that they were remaking all of the animations and models, thus didn't have the effort to individually reanimate every previous Pokémon. And then it was revealed that they used the exact same 'futureproof' models and animations. They just couldn't be bothered to even allow people to transfer older Pokémon from their *paid-monthly* (!) Cloud service, even post-game.

I mean, basically? Honestly the biggest problem is that there's so little stuff that even if you don't hate the new stuff, there's really not enough of it to be all that excited. You run out of Wild Area pretty quick, the game's pretty dang short, and there's essentially no postgame. Some of the new pokemon are cool, but that only takes you so far when you don't have much to use them for.
