One of my favourite disaster films, the way they show every character dealing with the predicament of the comet differently and how it all builds up to an emotional climax is very well executed.

"The music is so beautiful." Courtesy of composer James Horner.

As much as i adore Hans Zimmer, and think Dune Part 1 and 2 are tied for the second greatest score of all time, but as excellent as they are - they still aren't my number 1 - for me the number 1 spot has got to go to Horner's score for "Glory." Especially during the Fort Wagner battle sequence, if you've seen it you'll know what i mean. If not, i highly suggest checking it out, Denzel, Broderick, Andre Braugher, and Morgan Freeman each delivered one of - if not the single greatest acting performances of each of their careers, and is easily one of the top five war films ever made imo. Without Horner's music though, while it still woulda been a great movie no doubt, cuz everything else in it was brilliant as well, but Horner's score raises that film to a level of greatness that few films have ever and will ever match, (albeit a war film or any other genre). I never knew he did the score for this - thanks for telling me, he did a great job on this film too. I mean - far from "Glory" good, but still really good.

Horner got ripped off for a Oscar for 1995 he did both the Braveheart and Apollo 13 soundtracks and went home empty handed. What a crime he only won for Titanic which wasn't even close to his best work.

This movie is more more ground-level human and realistic and emotional than most flicks with the same plot. Mimi Leder excels at bringing the very relatable pain. You guys eve see Pay It Forward?

Mimi Leder also directed The Peacemaker. Has Nicole Kidman and George Clooney. She uses the water and fire elements beautifully. If you could, you should watch it.

LOVED THIS MOVIE! One of my faves! The thought that always stays with me is the lottery of names! Imagine (as a mom) if your name was called and your child’s wasnt. Or vice versa! You would of course want your children safe but it would be horrible either way.

One thing they virtually eliminated from this movie was the method of propulsion for the Messiah spacecraft. Picture taking a metal garbage can lid putting a M-80 fire cracker underneath it. When it explodes The garbage can goes flying up into the air. Okay replace the garbage can lid with a solid piece of steel three or four inches thick and the firecracker with a small nuclear bomb. This is called an Orion nuclear detonation proportion system. The atomic bomb explodes behind the spacecraft which is what the shield is for. Shock absorbers cushion the blast pushing the spacecraft forward. Each atomic bomb replaces a gigantic tank of rocket fuel and oxidizer. You can go very far very fast using these. I wish they had spent 5 minutes less on the leisurely scenes of the impending asteroid collision and just a moment or two showing the spacecraft using the atomic bombs for propulsion. And they should have cut this scene entirely; 13:08
