Same. I grew up with food insecurities and was pretty much over it but with Covid and the shelves emptied in March, I panicked. If it was just me, I wouldn't worry but having teenagers to feed, I went into over compensating mode. We have enough food to last for 1-2 months and I finally feel less anxious.

Loved this! I'd personally only change your husband's snack bin, and he might not care, I'd use mayson jars or something inside the basket to organize the loose candy. Also if you have your brown sugar in an open bin like that don't forget to get a brown sugar saver or it will be a brick.

Ive never seen a pantry with so many boxes and bags of processed food. Maybe its an american thing do you guys not have health or food education in schools? Or at home? Or is all your food like that even whole food? Like we even had mandatory cooking and sewing classes. Hopefully at the end youll be able to see the items & hopefully whatever nuts seeds other grains and whole foods that you own making your new lifestyle choices and healthy eating super easy for you. In future i think it would really help you to buy things in relation to the recipes your making that week or fortnight so you dont have expired things or so much stuff. Will save money and energy too especially if you mealprep when you get home from shopping that way cooking is fast or predone if you are tired/sick or someone else like hubby or kids can make it themselves assuming your the main cook. Also simplifying what you eat so you dont have/need so many condiments spices sauces types of snacks or whatever. People think they need every spice in the store but they not only expire quickly but unless you constantly use that spice and also constantly cook in general odds are you wont use up even the smallest bottle before it expires and its far easier to just have fresh when you can and cheaper and you wont be wasting money on things you dont actually need or use but think you do or only use for one new recipe and then never use again.
@waynebutane13383 жыл бұрын
I don't know about you but when I cook fresh and healthy food I usually don't store it in a pantry because it either needs to be chilled or eaten in the same day/next few days. Aren't pantries usually used to store processed foods and foods that have a long lifetime?

I had a similar thing to the beet juice story. When I was in 4th grade, hot cheetos were THE THING (I'm 20 btw) I was feeling sick one day in school and told the teacher and tried to get to the bathroom long story short threw up in the hallway and it was bright red from the hot cheetos. Honestly it traumatized me so bad I haven't had a bag since but it hurt me mentally 🤣🤣🤣

This is glorious... I wish I had a big pantry that I could make pretty lol. We just ordered a couple of tall cabinets to be our pantry (we have a small cabinet but it's too.. well.. small) because we have 4 adults and a tiny kitchen... not enough space! We happen to have a solid wall which we have our small pantry cabinet and our trash and recycling bins. (Gotta figure out where to shift the recycling and stuff once our new cabinets arrive but whatever lol.) Our current pantry overflow is on a bookcase in our dining room, which isn't a dining room but a craft room storage space... When I tell you I wanna move, I wanna move lol.

Hey! Since covid I do try to organize regularly and push the oldest to the front to eat food before it expires! I write the expiration date on the top so I can easily see the expiration dates! Since some foods don’t line up with the way I like to eat on the regular, I cook one or two meals a week that use up those ingredients! The rest I donate to either food bank or one of my adult kids pantry! Ha It makes me use my food or know they will be used and for the most part I am staying on my diet of more fresh foods! I also try to cook some of the long term foods along with a great salad to feel better about the meal in general!

Four our spices I bought all the same spice containers and labeled them - when we run out, I just fill from the bin section at the co-op or natural part of grocery store - only buy what we need so it doesn’t expire. Now we usually buy from Latin market because they have spices in little baggies since the bins are closed.

If you have a chest freezer I suggest putting flour, sugar, and any nuts you won't use/eat soon in there. I keep it in the original bag and double bag with a freezer bag to prevent frost damaging it, but it preserves it and keeps any bugs out. You can also freeze milk.

Use the pourable cereal containers for pasta rice oats chips and other grains etc you just flip the lid and pour or you can take the big lid off and use a measuring cup for flour or rice or whatever and do it that way. Theyre big enough for most staples and they look nice are super easy to use and theyre clear plus the handled edge is really easy to hold and slide compared to a big glass jar or screw top lid type things. I use the sistema brand which i believe is also in north america despite originating in new zealand.

I'd love to see a video on your pandemic panic buys. My son's formula started disappearing (he had cows milk protein allergy so it was a special ready to feed that was already not in every store) and diapers and even his sleep sacks got hard to find and Amazon shipping slowed down. So I panic bought ALL the baby things lol. I bought 6 boxes of his baby cereal, lol we just finished that when he was 12-13 months old. And of course we have a lifetime supply of canned soup, pasta, and pasta sauce. My husband said I was insane we'd never use it all and so far yes, he's right 🙄

Better to be safe than sorry!!! I felt so bad for the mamas who couldn’t get their baby formula when people were panic buying 😔 I thought about buying toddler formula, but didn’t want to cause I knew some moms would REALLY need it which is why I bought the rice milk and nut milks that didn’t need to be refrigerated instead.
