@@ranen7043 Agree but disagree. For me Hardcore was the early 80s, bands like Discharge here, Exploited, GBH, who differentiated themselves from Punk and New Wave with a deep harder faster sound that would never be mistaken for anything pop. And Metal at the time was beyond lame, with the exception of Motorhead, most of those Metal bands were forever stuck in 1971 in sound and style. I WOULDN'T call the Hardcore of the 80s Heavy Metal at the time, but unbeknownst to these Hardcore Punk bands (and me) they had created the future of underground Heavy Metal.
@ranen7043
@ranen7043 5 ай бұрын
But still, it is not correct, to call Discharge, et. al. Heavy Metal in retrospect, only because some Metalheads incorporated the style into their stuff. Those bands did not want to have anything to do with Heavy Metal. Believe me, i was there. Metal was a swear word back in the day. They where Punks and felt like Punks and called themselves Punks. Not 77 Punk or Post Punk or Oi! Punk but HardCore Punk. Following your thoughts, it maybe would be more correct and approbriate, to call Extreme Metal HardCore Punk. But nobody would dare to do that 😆. Another Thing: i would not call Motörhead Heavy Metal, nor Hardcore Punk, for that matter.

@@ranen7043 Well agree to disagree then. Lemmy who was Motorhead even said his music wasn't heavy metal, just rock n roll. To me it's all metal, this coming from a person who was punk back in the day. I hated the 1980s metal and the mediocre arena rock acts of that time, still do. Bitter pill to swallow, but there was a line between Metal and Punk back then and both progressive hard core punks and experimental metal bands erased it. Sure, any nerd who keeps on top of the many trends can tell the difference IE; this one has cookie monster singing lead vocals, it must Black Metal, or Death Metal, or the many many more sub genres, but to the casual listener I have become over the decades, it's all metal, albeit heavily influenced by punk anger and energy with metal power chords.

Me too! One of the most formative albums I had as a 15 year old was the album this song is on (title track). Maybe THE most formative. Once I heard this, there was no going back. I listen to this album every so often and get a serious revitalization. Everything about this album is so perfect.

I found this album a little over 20 years ago in my early teenage years, and it still gives me the same energy as it did when I first heard it. I fell in love with this album and the punk/hardcore scene instantly and still love it the same to this day. It always makes me want to move. It is the perfect music to help bring you out of dark times. Long live Discharge

Funny in the day every one hated punk .inc musicians.. I was sent home from school regularly. Due to the way i looked. Yet today every one claims to like it. 77 i was the only punk in a city school. In my area only 3 punks existed. The crown in Birmingham city centre was the only place you'd get a gathering. The uk82 scene was even more hated by 70s punks aswell. and even less popular. I fucking loved it. In my 20s then. My old man said are you ever going to grow up... No fucking chance..

So fuckin raw & speedy! They could rightly be called one of the Godfathers of Thrash, given their heavy influence on a young Metallica. But this era of U.K. street punk was beloved also by the fellers who (arguably) started 2nd wave Black Metal, Mayhem. So that's 2 genres Discharge has informed. Timeless... 🎸⚡🔥🤘🎸

@@davidmoe8844 Discharge isn't a metal band. Ok, there were later albums which took detour into metal waters, but Discharge in early, the most influential years is just plain hardcore punk driven by d-beat. "Metallized" sections are just natural evolution of early hardcore music, the influences aren't overt and are mostly still much more on a punk spectrum.
@davidmoe8844

@@iachtulhu1420 I guess I wasn’t being clear in my statement. I was just trying to describe that so many of my punk friends first started listening to Judas, Sabbath, Maiden and then got into Punk:Hardcore. I never listened to any of that but went straight into Punk Rock and then Hardcore. I tried to make the analogy that Discharge “might” be the only punk equivalent to a Heavy Metal band “to me”. They are definitely a hardcore band, pioneers of a hardcore sound and most definitely NOT a Heavy Metal band.
