I love how a lot, of Dischords classic albums are still in print. Its so great. Its not hard to find any of the good classic albums and singles that they've put out. Maybe Sub Pop should start doing something in this nature. a lot of the great albums that were put out by Sub Pop in their late 80's early 90's heyday aren't always in print....

Thanks so much for putting this together and posting it! It's only 4:15 long, but I'm sure it took many hours of work to make it this good!

hope you don't mind my posting a comment I made 2 months ago on Minor Threat's e.p. GUESS I'M ENDING THE YEAR WITH THE BEST. YESTERDAY I POSTED THE FIRST SONG WE ALL HEARD FROM MINOR THREAT, FILLER. SO NOW LET"S HEAR THE WHOLE E.P FIRST RELEASED ON DISCHORD RECORDS IN 1981. What more can be said about this band? They have already received just about every accolade. And in my book they deserve the highest possible praise, on many fronts. First you have a band whose musicianship is beyond reproach and is held in the highest esteem by everyone who loves punk music. They write inspiring songs with some of the most intelligent lyrics ever put to music. Here are the eight tracks from their debut e.p. and feature the original blazing quartet in all their glory. Hearing these songs the first time changed many people's lives and became a youth rallying cry. It also immediately put Minor Threat in the pantheon of hardcore (the music that came after punk and spawned slam dancing) Then you have Ian MacKaye, the singer and founder of Dischord Records, who sold Minor Threat records very inexpensively so every kid could own one. In an effort to keep the prices down I believe he lost money on one of them. But imagine the joy a kid with very little money had buying a Minor Threat record. To me that is priceless. Ian had all ages shows where no alcohol was served and the tickets were very inexpensive. . His anti-music business and anti-"rock star" attitudes are refreshing in this day and age when money and fame seem to be everyone's goal. Minor Threat and Stiff Little Fingers are the two most inspirational punk bands I have seen. Seeing them could change one's life---and always for the better. 00:00 Filler 1:32 I don't wanna hear it 2:47 Seeing Red 3:50 Straight Edge 4:35 Small man, big mouth 5:29 Screaming at a Wall 7:01 Bottled Violence 7:56 Minor Threat

raise your hand if you ever made a pilgramage to D.C. the Beecher St address that appears on the tapes only to find yourself standing there on the sidewalk looking up at the house wondering "Is this it?" and seeing no signs of punkdom, you take a photo, get back in the car where your wife has been waiting for you and she asks "Was that it?" and you drive off only finding out years later that Ian's parents live(d) on Beecher St? Raise your hand.

Right, both songs are called "Moral Majority" and both are about the Moral Majority (visit their site). The photo is not of the Dead Kennedys, but of Youth Brigade, as taken by Sarah Woodell.

There were two Youth Brigade bands... the better-known, longer-lasting one was in California, BYO (Better Youth Organization), but there was also a Youth Brigade in D.C. Pre-Internet, they didn't know about each other!

Actually, he said it was about the Moral Majority, which sadly, is more than a Dead Kennedys song.

Bencodec. I wasn't talking about Fugazi (or any other dischord artist), I was talking about all these people posting on KZbin who say "FUCK (whatever)" just because they see/hear sometihng they don't like. My point was, if you don't like something, discuss it, don't just say "FUCK YOU" because that gets nothing done. Did that make sense? BTW I own the majority of the dischord catalog. WooHoo!

No there was a 4 band compilation with a different Youth Brigade. They were on Discord. I have seen the record as I my best bud owns it. In fact the girl on this video holds it in her hands for a few seconds. Learn your history.

have you listened to a recent fugazi record or are you basing your opinions on records 17 year old kids recorded in the early 80s? your sentiments make sense for some other punk labels but dischord has released some beautifully voiced political commentary, i'm hard pressed to think of a single record on their label that makes a FUCK ____ comment.
@Filidepomper11 жыл бұрын
I have started listening to dischord a bit late because I am not 50 years. Not meaning to add to any offense or ignorant mockery, but tapes are no longer that easy to find and too bad they are no longer five dollars.

Personally, I'm fairly conservative. and I don't like liberal politics (love dischord though), but can't you guys come up with anything more articulate than "FUCK (WHATEVER)" ? You're winning not one heart or one mind doing that.

What do you expect? It's the culture of instant gratification and the hardcore scene for the most part was an affront to decency and music, itself. Mostly a bunch of middle class teens screaming about the injustices of having to be told "no" by mommy or daddy. There are a couple of gems in the mix, but mostly mindless racket from people who take themselves way too seriously. As for being a conservative, I suppose some of my views would be classified as such as well and some not, but it seems to me that nothing from traditional society has been "conserved" in a consumer-driven society that values form over substance and constant change over tradition. The DIY concept is the only aspect of any value from that whole genre if screaming off key and banging on trashcan lids can be classified as a genre, at all.

DC people have always been tediously self-righteous: "When you support creativity, it's an inherently political thing to do."
@emil3709Ай бұрын
Yes, they take themselves too seriously. Most of the "hardcore" with a few exceptions is just mindless racket and screeching about the "angst" of middle class teenagers when mommy or daddy tells them no. The do it yourself concept is fine, but the end product in most cases is an affront to the ears with a few exceptions. The need for instant gratification rather than taking the time and patience to actually learn to play an instrument, etc and calling art simply because most people realize that banging on trashcan lids and screaming at the top of your lungs off key is anything but.
