Season 9. I was there from the start with the announcement video and NANOOK OF THE NORTH. Cats have come and gone. Craig's become a father. Matt even referenced SUPER SHOOTER once in a BlameSociety Meta moment. Best of all I somehow got FALLING into the Welcome to the Basement Hall of Fame. Here's to a great year, guys. (Thumb kiss)

I have never before seen a movie deliver an instruction, fail to follow its own instruction for nearly the entire movie, and then redeem itself at the last moment by actually following it. In the final scene, at the last possible opportunity, they finally attempted to put actual weight on it.

I'm 22 now. I remember a distinct time in my late teens, maybe 17/18 where I spent a summer watching your videos. Seeing people develop ideas about a movie beyond just describing it as just "good" or "bad" really was my first venture in film criticism and viewing the medium as art on the level of literature and music. God bless, and keep doing what you're doing so well.

The ratings system hadn't quite been ironed out yet during the 70s and 80s, so many films that would today have been rated PG PG 13 or R for language or frightening scenes just ended up as PG. It's interesting that this movie didn't get an R rating to begin with though, seeing as he was known for his profanity.
@suedenim5 жыл бұрын
Apparently the movie was given a new theatrical release more recently with it's rating revised to R.

The problem with Oscar nominees is that they're always movies you've already seen variations of before a dozen times. Hollywood not only loves "movies about movies", but also movies that stick to a tried and true formula; anything straying too much from that formula is "too weird", as though automatically disqualifying it from serious consideration. Easily the most original movie I've seen in years was The Lighthouse, yet despite critical acclaim, all it gets is a single pity nomination for cinematography, which 1917 is a shoo-in for. I for one would have vastly more interest in watching an awards ceremony for the less mainstream stuff out there.

SEEN IT QUESTION/REQUEST I'm not sure how often you're asked if you've seen any foreign/Asian films as I don't see it often in your segments, but I'm very interested to know if either of you have seen either The Man from Nowhere or A Bittersweet Life. These are usually two of my "go-to" films when I'm trying to ease someone int Korean cinema as they're similar to American films in their structure. The Man from Nowhere being nearly beat-for-beat Denzel Washington's Man on Fire and A Bittersweet Life sharing a somewhat similar story and tone with George Clooney's The American.

I don't know if you've seen I lost my Body, but it was fantastic. It's what the best animated category should be built for. A movie that couldn't work in live action. Please tell me you two have seen Parasite. Greatest film I’ve seen this year; deserves to win everything. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was awesome, and if it weren’t up against Parasite I’d be 100% in its camp. That said, 1917 probably is going to win BP but I don’t know why because it’s a very standard war movie. I liked it, but didn’t love it. Marriage Story contains some of the greatest acting this year from all involved.

@ThomasWilson45 жыл бұрын
Joker wasn't great BUT no one who's seen is implying he's the king of anything. It's about Mental Illness and classism, how the media twist the narrative on what going on. Not about some guy who just "can't get laid".
@NinjaDimes5 жыл бұрын
That's not what he said though. He said ' and he's never going to have sex ever', not that he can't get laid. He's saying that the hero to the masses IN THE MOVIE -- the persona people wind up idolizing with the clown masks etc, is this flawed character who is just this sad boy. And he said that's something he liked about it, by the way. He also didn't claim thats only what the movie was about? Personally, I thought the movie and the message was 'cheap' in that it was so obviously a zeitgeist grab by the makers, and it had to use SO much from King of Comedy and Taxi Driver to make it have depth and relevance, and did it much worse than both of them. Joaquin is a great actor, but the entire thing felt like they were pushing buttons to manipulate my reactions.
@annaheff73325 жыл бұрын
Thomas Wilson IV Personally I loved it, and Joker is not a hero to me at all. Feels like Craig and I were watching two different movies!

@ThomasWilson45 жыл бұрын
@@KatiCleo oh yeah, it was like taxi driver Jr. But that still isn't working against this narrative that anyone with a brain cell would idolize the joker, the most he gets is sympathy for a society that has failed him.
