My family has been passing a few packs of chocolate skittles back and forth for Christmas each year since 2007! (My dad bought a whole case at a wholesale distribution center.) Someone's stocking will always have a pack in there (because they were so nasty we all gave them back the first year.) It has kind of become a funny family tradition to see who is going to get the pack of skittles that is equivalent to a lump of coal!

This is entirely accurate, in fact, MOST expiration dates have more to do with ensuring a consistent demand for the manufacturer than it does actually going "bad", most of the dates are a "best by date".The flavors do deteriorate over time, and it may not taste as good, but they won't poison you, usually. Diary is an exception to this, diary has a real expiration date.
