Atanasov and much later Christof are great persons with bulgarian origin, but what is the point. They both did what they did without Bulgaria involved. It is funny to mention it, because as the guy above stated they would made compotes if they stayed in the country. Fun fact of the day: first computer actually is made with von Neumann, and Clifford Berry and Atanasov just made buffed up calculator, which is no doubt a big step for its time in the way of computer's producing.

I've resided in Bulgaria for nearly 20 years. It's never been, nor will it be, a poor country because its economy revolves around land ownership-real estate, to be exact. It's perhaps the smartest foundational currency I've ever witnessed, even superior to gold. Every Bulgarian owns at least one and up to four properties, outright, without mortgages. Coming from California, known for its affluent landscape, I consider Bulgarians comparable to the top 10% of Californians. Why? Because their real estate holds tremendous value. So, when you hear somebody call Bulgarian the poorest country in the EU and use disparaging remarks about how the villages are falling apart, just be aware, there's an underlying vein of gold running underneath the entire country...

Nice video :) Still missed so many things and facts... The Roman stadium and the ancient theatre in Plovdiv from 1st century AD. Plovdiv was crowned for European Capital of Culture in 2019. The highest peak on the Balkans is Musala in Rila mountain. After Iceland, Bulgaria is 2nd in Europe for source of natural mineral water with more than 500 springs.

@@fotis1964 No, of course the inhabitants were not Bulgarians, the Bulgarian Sarmatians appeared on the historical scene under their name Bulgarians much later in the 2nd century AD in the Caspian steppes and came to today's Bulgarian lands a little bit later, first as allies of the Roman Empire, a few centuries later they moved their lands to today's Bulgaria because of the attacks of their cousins the Khazars. The first inhabitants of Plovdiv were Neolithic farmers who settled first in Europe 8000 year BC, comming from Anatolia and began to found later organized villages and even the first cities. On the territory of Bulgaria there are many of them such as this in Plovdiv - Sofia, Varna, where the first gold, mined and processed by man was found, but the oldest settelment of these farmers in Bulgaria is located around Stara Zagora, and the oldest sity with fortress walls was this in Provadia - a salt mine where first salt (the ancient gold) in Europe was produced. Due to the lack of written sources and history writings from that time, we do not know how they called themselfs. Some people today call them Thracians, but it is not correct, because the Thracians came much later as well, around 1500-2000 years BC in the territory of today's Bulgaria.

Today we don't have nothing to be proud with except incredible nature and ancient culture and traditions, some of them historians found more than 2500 years ago. Really nice presentation of Bulgaria! The explanation about the colors of the Bulgarian flag are some what naivе. The (pra)Bulgarians that came to the Balkans and made the Bulgarian state 1300 years ago uniting the Slavs, the Thracians and the Macedonians were from Indoaryan, Iranoaryan and Scythian origin. In the ancient Vedic/Avestan times, some 3500 years ago, the society was divided into three layers. The priests/man of God/diviners are the upper white dressed layer. The peasаnts are the middle green part of the society and the warriors are the defenders, the red colour layer at the bottom. In peaceful days the flag is with white colour at the top, followed by green in the middle and red at the bottom. So the wise and the spiritual man must lead the nation in peaceful times and during war days the warriors must be at the top to defend the state. That is why the Bulgarian flag in days of war changes the upper color from white to red. Thank you again for your work!

A little-known fact is that Bogomilism arose in Bulgaria during the Early Middle Ages, which is the progenitor of all "heretical" currents in Christianity! Through Bulgarian soldiers who served in the Italian provinces of the Byzantine Empire, this religion spread first in Italy under the name of Catharism, and from there in France and all of Western Europe..! Also, at the beginning of the 20th century, Master Petar Dunov created the White Brotherhood, which preaches Perfection and Merging with nature under the auspices of the Lord Jesus Christ, which manifests itself in music, dances and physical behavior in harmony with the vibrations of Nature..! The most famous ritual is Paneurhythmia, which is a dance with special movements to the music of a violin, people are dressed entirely in white..!In your video there is a shot of this dance, when you explain what "horo" is !!! This teaching is very popular in France, where Master Petar Dunov is called Beinsa Duno..!

Many people find it really odd how we have the head shake and nod opposite to everyone. This has its roots in the 500 of the Ottoman ruling, which here is called "ottoman slavery". Back then when the ottomans were forcing the locals to convert to Islam, they were going from village to village asking people if they accept Islam as their religion and whoever refused was brutally executed publicly as an example. People starting nodding as this was well accepting sign of agreement, but they actually meant no. This eventually became an unwritten rule and when you have this going for 500 in your society, it becomes the norm.

The Cyrillic alphabet was created by the student of Cyril and Methodius, Saint Kliment Ohridski, who, by order of the Bulgarian prince Boris the First, built a school in Ohrid, where he improved and adapted the Glagolitic alphabet created by Cyril and Methodius for the needs of the Bulgarian language..! In honor of his teachers, he called the new script "Cyrillic"! Second omission, Bulgaria is not one of the poorest countries in Europe, but in the European Union..! There is a big difference between the two definitions..! Third omission, Bulgaria has never lost a battle flag in battle! Fourth omission. The first use of the airplane for military purposes was the work of a Bulgarian pilot who threw hand grenades during the Balkan War! Yes, thats because we dont want foreighners to buy land or property here. We dont want to be like Greece or like London or like New York. We like Visitors, tourists - sure. But not people who want to buy land or property. Corruption is a WESTERN Thing and its a side effect of Democracy. Democracy produces corruption. Thats why it was removed 2 4000 years ago, only after 2 years of experiments on only 2 ancient towns. Restored by British Empire, to keep corrupted, low , divided other lands, so they can drain them out. Thats the short-cut version.

I'm sure you did a lot of research, which is amazing, but I just had to write a comment after the wedding invitation part. What most people would call tradition is actually partly folklore and partly tradition and yes, while it's very very rare, there is a chance you might see a couple splitting a loaf of bread (or pitka as we say) above their heads, but even my 70 year old grandparents didn't participate in the wedding rituals. Maybe, just maybe, my grand grandparents did, all of the traditions were basically forgotten after the ottoman rule as the country wanted to be more like western Europe. People always assume that when we say a superstition we believe in it- we don't. Just a few things are off, but of course it's impossible to know unless you live here.

3:40 Ciryl didn't use the Greek letters as a base. Glagolitic isn't created by him. It evolves over time. There are many who he adapted the letters from. St Jerome created one version in Dalmatia, (Bosnia, Croatia), while on the other side of the Balkans we have Aethicus Ister's alphabet from the Dobrugae region(Bulgaria/Romania). But they aren't the creators of the "Glagolitic" either. These letters can be found from Neolithic times on the Balkans (4,000-5,000BC) when Thracians and Pelasgians inhabited the whole of central Eurasia. There are in total 35 matches in the form of the letter between Thracian Linear A+B and Cyril's alphabet whilst only ~20 with Greek alphabet meaning Cyril's version of Glagolitic was based on the Thracian linears from Crete and Minoan area from 4,000-5,000BC. The big misconception that these are Greek letters comes because historians confuse Greek for succesors of the Thracians when ancient Greek writers like Homer, Sophocles, Strabo in their work call the Thracians - barbarians, meaning "not Greek". Linear A, alphabet of the neolitic and Chalcolitic Thracians from Cretes, according to the studies of Arthur Evans is the base of the proto-Phoenicians (people living in the Levant before 1500BC). The same letters from Linear A are found in Scythian and Sarmatian runes and as we know Scythians lived in the region of the Cimerean Thracians while Sarmatians are a part of the Getae Thracian family. Unfortunately there are no written books in Sarmatian, nor Scythian from 6 century BC to 1 century AD because as Herodotus states that the word for paper is skin and as we know skin falls apart over time. The father of history adds that "during his time 5century BC people outside Greece used goat and sheep skin for paper instead of papirus". Anyway thanks for making the effort to interpret Bulgarian history. It's good to see that foreigners show interest in the topic. 😊

But hey, you are Ethiopian Greek (Danayan or pseudo-hellen), so it is normal for you to hate :) Btw in Genetics Greece is devided in 5 different parts because all of them differ from each other. North Greece is the same genetically as Bulgaria, and we all know why is that... @@debnadaebna9981 So you claim the nomads from Asia were Europeans? As far for the language Bulgarians conquered the Seven Tribes Slaves located in today Bulgaria. They mixed with the seven tribes slaves because they were 80.000 while Bulgarians were 4.000. The language Bulgarians are speaking is similar to the language spoken in parts of Northern Greece because Cyril and Methodios translated the Holy Book to slavic spoken in villages nearby Thessaloniki.

Because of zadruga slaves have 3 or 4 words for uncle and aunt. Bulgarians have only one striko. Bulgarians must change their name or stop calling themselves Slaves.
