I lived in my model Y for 5 months while working for a remote data collection company. I traveled to different states on my days off and slept in my car with a inflatable sleeping pad and used camp mode almost every night. It uses about 8-12% per night depending on outside temp. Its absolutely critical for below 0 nights. Just make sure you lock your car from the touchscreen at night instead of from your phone, or else someone can still open your door at night… i learned that the hard way. Just kidding. But i did test it out so you dont have to learn the hard way lol

@lorenzmuller40002 жыл бұрын
@@krishmav I don’t agree with you. Price is one of the two downsides of the Tesla Model Y, right next to quality. They really need to get the price down or the quality wayyyy up. A fully equipped Q4 e-Tron with Matrix LED, HUD and a premium sound system with a subwoofer is actually less expensive than the Long Range Model Y. I had the Model 3 for 24 months and almost ordered a Model Y instead of the Q4 but I couldn’t convince myself (and my wife) to pay way more money per month just to be 1s quicker from 0-100. Tesla opening the charging network to everybody removed the last reason to stay in the Tesla ecosystem.
@kefo0252 жыл бұрын
@@lorenzmuller4000 the quality has improved enormously! Especially the cars from Chinese production are on German-like niveau! More over, a Q4 just doesn't offer such an outstanding effinciency, range, performance, fun and space. And everyone knows how much more you would have to spend, if you wanted a Q4 to be as good equipped as a standard MY.
@lorenzmuller40002 жыл бұрын
@@kefo025 That’s completely wrong, the range and efficiency of the Q4 e-Tron sportback model is very similar to the Model Y. You could argue that the performance is lower, but the difference to 100 is less than one second, therefore almost negligible. And the price you actually pay (not the sticker price) for a fully equipped Q4 e-Tron is indeed lower than the price of the cheapest Model Y. For example if you check out sixt leasing, they offer a fully equipped Q4 e-Tron (which includes stuff you can’t even get on a Model Y, therefor definitely a better equipped car) with 25000km per year for 550€ per month, including winter tires and service. The Model Y costs 711€ per month (not even including FSD or any customisations like color and rims), that’s a difference of almost 8000€ over the 48 months of leasing.

I slept in my Model S for 8 days for a 2,400 mile road trip from California to New Mexico and back. $0 hotel bills, $0 gas cost with free supercharging. After two days of getting adjusted to it, I preferred it over the "check in, check out" of hotels. I found that if you plug the car in first, then turn on the climate control, a Level 2 charger will power the heater for the whole night. You don't get a reduction in range in the morning by using the heat if you do it this way.

After a lot of searching, I stumbled upon the Exped Megamat Duo TXY. It's custom fit for Model X and Y (hence the TXY name). Extreme comfort: sleeps like on a normal bed, due to foam + air design. Storage: rolls up tight and stores in the frunk or the subtrunk with extra space for sleeping bag and camping pillows (I think it could even fit in the smaller subtrunk!). I highly recommend it! I'm not sponsored by the company - just a very happy customer.

I stopped using Camp Mode to get rid of the fire video. It's cute for about ten minutes. I just drove across the U.S. and back again, coast to coast. First night I slept in my Model Y. I'd done that several times and liked it. The next night I stayed in a hotel, didn't cost much - was very nice. So next night I did it again, same chain. But this place was run down. It's more of a hassle to stay in a hotel, then it is to just park and climb in the back. After that I just slept in my car, unless I wanted to shower. It's a no brainer, pull into a rest stop, park. I have a 4" thick memory foam mattress, a sleeping bag, a regular pillow and a sleeping bag liner (that's the main thing I sleep in. Usually I just drape the sleeping bag over me. Black t-shirt over my eyes I can sleep right below a street light. I've slept in the car in freezing temps and when it's been very hot. I set the climate at 69° f which seems perfect. I think using just Climate will turn off after about 6 hours - usually makes no difference. If it does you just turn it on again with your phone. Great car. So some days I'd basically spend almost all the 24 hours in my Tesla. Stealth camping? Van people seem to eliminate all the windows. I don't cover any of the windows. One good trick is to park right next to the Supercharger. No one notices. In Los Angeles when smoke from the wildfires blows in, I've found that my home HEPA filters can't keep up with it, so I just go out and sleep in my Tesla - I don't even have the upgrade Bio Warfare filters - but I'm going to get them. (I've camped like this in a Honda Odyssey, Prius V and all over the world in a lot of tents, rainflys and even just a bivy sack (10,000 foot mountain in Japan, blowing rain -- best night of my life.) Hope this helps. Enjoy your life.

With a Tesla, you’ll never be too hot or cold. Always at perfect temperature, steering wheel, seats, including the back seats. Lots of idiots have no clue how amazing this car is. Or should I say a robot.
@Danne892 жыл бұрын
Unless you live in Texas and have to tint the roof and sweat to death because no seat ventilation in 3/Y. :) Who's the robot?
@GXMAN162 жыл бұрын
Yep with a non tinted glass roof, you sure as hell will never get too hot with direct sunlight in the summer. And that's really an issue I've had in all ICE cars I've owned is I am either too hot or too cold, if only my climate control was automated like a thermostat at home or I had heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel. But all the cars i've owned are from 1910s open bench frames, so you know I just put on a lot of layers and warm coats in the winter and ride shirtless in the summer. Good thing Teslas came out with A/C and heated seats, it only 110 years later. I wonder why no ICE cars came out with that technology. Should I switch to Tesla, i'm tired of buying coats and freezing my fingers in the winter.
@underscorechaz2 жыл бұрын
@@GXMAN16 again, missing the point; you can preheat or cool a tesla through your phone before you even get in... and yes, that exact feature took 110 years to make technically 😂
@GXMAN162 жыл бұрын
@@underscorechaz Yea you're right, I've heard they came up with that idea in Europe called Remote Start, it's a some German phrase for something. I guess Tesla actually implemented it, never before has there been an app like that like Lexus or Ford or Mercedes have definitely never had an app where you could remote start your vehicle from your phone and have it heat or cool off when it starts.
@komil54462 жыл бұрын
@@GXMAN16 I had a brand new ICE car, couldn't even listen to a music right. It'd take 15 mins to warm it up, as opposed to 1 min now. I get to my destination in 15 mins. Besides, it even knows my schedule and pre-conditions it. I've owned different kinds of cars... as opposed to having read all kinds of biased articles. In fact, my only regret about a Tesla is not having bought it way earlier. I hated the fact that I was manipulated by the media FUD. I lost all my respect to main stream media.

I TESTDROVE a Model Y in Zurich Switzerland during a holiday... it was a dream of a car, and so affordible!!!! I currently drive a Tesla Model 3, but maybe, when the family grows, we'll go for a model Y!! Amazing as well that the footprint of the Model Y is the same of the model 3, not even more space needed in the garage. AWESOME!
@GXMAN162 жыл бұрын
Yes cause Model Y is on the same platform as the 3. It's just an suv/coupe version of model 3, same thing as model S and X. And it's not affordable at all to avergae people. But you're in Switzerland so its different, why don't get yourself nice Mercedes E63s Wagon, it's made for Switzerland.

It isn’t just that it keeps you warm when it is cold outside, it keeps the air conditioned as well. I hate camping in tents and waking up to the humidity of the tent occupants on my face. Not a problem in a Tesla with Camp mode.

We use dog mode often mostly because my wife waits in the car in the passenger seat. Perhaps Tesla could have an option to call it passenger mode? Or at least something we can choose to appropriately flatter our better halves. I recall a patent or FCC? approval for Tesla devices to detect living beings in the car (like a baby in a car seat) so that the car maintains a safe temperature and informs the driver, and perhaps first responders if the driver doesn't respond in a couple of hours.

@@michox I made a 250 km trip in Sweden in a ~2019 Model 3 LR AWD. Here we have 100 km/h roads with steel wire dividers. That journey was almost exclusively on such roads with steel wire dividers. The car made ~three 'phantom brakes' during that trip alone. And one of those were quite severe...

@@angela1984a hmm how would they train the network to not brake that hard when nothing is happening? I think it's just the neural network that has to get less frightened so easily. Maybe they're already doing it after seeing in retrospective that there was no object to worry about. I guess they would filter strong breaking cases in autopilot, from that filter those with no incoming obstacles, and train the network to not brake in those snippets. Brake = error or something like that
