Jose, you’ve done a beautiful job putting a brand new pair of eyes on Syracuse. Since I’ve lived here my whole life I’ve seen many changes but you’ve captured everything that has withstood the test of time. The face of Syracuse has changed immensely, but some things will always remain the same. Thank you for your artistic expression of our city. Excellent work! ❤❤❤❤

Every city has their ups and downs and a lot of times there are many factors that can make or break the experience (location, income level, job market, etc.) that tends to change with time. I try to showcase the best of these areas with historical facts since there are so many hood videos all over KZbin and not many that highlight the good. I moved out of NYC because the cost of living didn’t make sense anymore.

Unfortunately, that affordability has all but evaporated in the past year. My rent goes up $400 a month on January 1st, so I'm forced to move out of the city here. Really hard to find affordable housing around here, even for someone like me that has a stable job and decent income. Not to mention the rise in crime and the cost of everything else. It's sad, really.

Very good video of Syracuse and vicinity! I am a "born in Brooklyn, Lived in Long Island, then, Dutchess County, then moving and settling in the CNY region back in 1991. There's so much MORE to this area than you could possibly fit into your video! I can totally understand why you had to limit your coverage, but so much more. As you show Coleman's Pub in Tipperary Hill, the "upside down" traffic light on Lowell Street - that whole are and the story of Irish Immigrants, The revitalization of Downtown Syracuse, including the Landmark Theater which now draws many Broadway traveling tours, plus many other entertainers, The Civic Center/War Memorial (where the Original movie "Slapshot" was filmed) - Which brings in many acts (saw comedian Brian Regan, and the final tour of "Riverdance" + many other shows there. A nd lets not forget that the (former) Carrier Dome, now renamed the JPW arena - is also an attraction to entertainers such as Paul McCartney (who made a second appearance there this past year (2022), and Sir Elton John's final tour. Oh... and talk about the Wildlife - Onondaga Lake. I (more by hobby) am an avid wildlife photographer whose time photographing is focused on the lake. ) once one of the most polluted lakes in the US - Most polluted this side of the Mississippi River, has gone through such an AGGRESIVE cleanup effort that it now is considered home to over 200 species of both Migratory and Non-migratory birds + mammals including beaver, mink, foxes, coyotes, deer, and others, plus many insects (tons of butterflies, etc. One of the most remarkable comebacks has been the Bald Eagle! We've had a growing (mostly wintering) bald eagle population since slightly before 2000. in around 2013, you may only seen and average of 15 eagles (total 1 day count) as per the Audubon and NYSDEC. Their population has DRAMATICALLY climbed where the yearly average has been in the high 60s. The peak being an official Audubon count 104 set in one day in March 2019. When I go there, I see at least 35-40 at a time (again, lucky in the past if I saw 5-10 eagles. Not only that, many eagles are now staying and nesting in the region including 2 nests (1 in 2021, the second being built by another pair this year( 2023) and it is believed to be a third on another section of the lake). This is the first time in well over 100 years that eagles have nested on the shores of NY State. To get an idea about the Eagles on Onondaga Lake, Look for Mike Lemery's "80 Bald Eagles fish, fight and steal on Onondaga Lake in Syracuse, NY!" The eagles are attracting vistors from NYC, Albany, Connecticut, Buffalo, Rochester, and some from other regions of the lake. It is one of the TOP places in the Northeast to see them This is probably the best video I've seen that captures the atmosphere of the lake and what you will see with wintering eagles on Onondaga Lake! And more wildlife in many other City, County and State park (such as Green Lakes State Park) that also sport a lot of wildlife including many owls, smaller species, and yes, flyovers of Bald Eagles from time to time. Again Jose On Tour, once again, your movie is GREAT, - I think you will need another 2-3 movies to capture the other highlights in Syracuse/CNY - including these eagles and other wildlife in the area ! (I'd be happy to suggest, share further info about the eagles, etc. in the area) *by the way, Salina is pronouced Sa-Ly-Na, not Saleena.. (it was one of the names I needed to learn when I first moved here - , including Teall - pronounced "Teal" and not Tee-All " (LOL!) (welcome to CNY!)

I spent the last six days in Syracuse; we’re moving there in October and we were looking for places to rent. I was following available rentals on Zillow, and I must’ve looked in all the wrong places. Work location will be Liverpool. Occasionally there was a nice street but it was surrounded by rundown buildings. I didn’t realize when people said they liked living in Syracuse they weren’t talking about the downtown area. Outside of the city, we saw mostly rundown apartment complexes. I’m really looking forward to exploring the places in this video. If you have any suggestions of how to look for places to rent, please let me know.

That's a fair assessment. I live outside the city in a mostly quiet neighborhood, and work near downtown. I would never live down there. Housing isn't too expensive, but the property taxes here are burdensome. My brother owned a modest older house in Liverpool, and was paying about $12,000 a year in property taxes on it. He moved to North Carolina, and a newer, larger house he was paying less than $3000 a year.

Linda, I live on the edge of Liverpool where Liverpool and North Syracuse border each other. There are decent apartment complexes, including one that borders our neighborhood. I've known people who lived in that one and were very happy with it. The village of liverpool also has rental properties as well. Many of the homes there are within walking distance to Onondaga Lake. I"m guessing by now, you have already moved here, but I figured it couldn't hurt. Welcome to Central NY!

I left there in 1978 because I’ve been saw the decline and it has only accelerated over the years. Your video of the state fair was even further depressing. When I was a kid there were waves and waves of people now it’s a fraction of what it was just like anything else in New York companies and families have been playing for decades now there is nothing close to amazing. But it is incredibly close to depressing some of the highest taxes in the country. In the worst food go there you won’t be there long. I was born in the circus Baldwinsville area there until the late 70s continued to vacation there in the summer’s to see my family. The 70s were the high points in the New York state fair everybody that I know now in the area says they don’t bother going it’s just not like it used to be. I think you need to take a look at the statistics you’ll see that statistics show that there has been a Steady decline ever since the 60s a good example is the mall in Syracuse what a waste of taxpayer dollars and a scam by and people who built it anyone says that New York is on the way up. Is he there sucking on a crack pipe or has a vested interest in promoting it again the statistics need to show the truth.
@johndenicola6173

Mike, what you saw was a fair that is coming out of closure from the covid epidemic. Other than the covid years, the State Fair has consistently broke attendance records for almost every year. Jose's video only shows the midway; It did not show the areas such as the Agriculture & Horticulture, Center Of Progress Bldg, (in the big square area) , the many animal buildings ( contests, etc - Horse, Cows. I moved up here from Dutchess County after I was married in 1989. I have seen ** nothing ** but continual improvement in Syracuse and the surrounding areas. There has been a LOT of improvements in downtown Syracuse - LOTS of renovations to old buildings, more thriving stores, shops, theatre (The Landmark has been in constant restoration with improvements being done to it every year). Even some of the "sketchy" parts of the city are slowly (but surely) being revitalized, and becoming a place that is actually now enjoyable to walk through. The biggest issue is the gang violence - but that is more centralized where their neigbhorhoods are. The late 1970s was the PITS for many cities/fairs, but this area has shown great imporovements!

@@johndenicola6173 Reading your comment I get the feeling you’re either work for the state fair or promote the central New York area as your employer nothing in your comments is truthful. I’m from the area 62 years old and over the last 45 years everything I’ve seen in the area, including industry and families have fled the area. No one wants to live with high taxes high fuel cost and no future the High Point for the state fair was the 70s. I don’t know if anybody from the area that even goes anymore because it’s just not like it used to be maybe newcomers to the area that see it maybe think it’s great but it’s nothing by comparison to what it used to be nothing in New York is all the projects that get started and try to boost the economy and nothing more than scams for the developers and then they flee good example is the Syracuse mall what a waste of taxpayer dollars like I said, don’t know who your work Or why you’re spewing such falsities, but you’re way off course

@@bigmikessenioradventures Not even close about my employer, buddy. Your assumptions about me AND the area are WAY Off, and the foundation of your FLAWED assertions that are confusing to follow are build on a weak foundation of incomplete thought. I could care less how old you are, for I am not very far behind you. And who cares how old you are, it adds nothing to your credibility. You've apparently never lived anywhere in the State, nor have nothing to compare high taxes and high cost of living to. If you "don't know of anyone that even goes there anymore" then it is obvious that you are oblivious to what is even going on with the fair to begin with. I don't attend the fair every year (matter of preference), but I know MANY who will go on multiple days during its annual run. If no one is going there, then (with the exception of the pandemic), How are they breaking attendance records every year? Mirrors? ("No one ever goes there anymore, it's too crowded") Yogi Berra/Big Mike) . How can you even question anyone's credibility when you cannot keep a clear focus on what you are writing anyway. I will attest that Syracuse has lost much industry over the 30+ years I lived in the region; that's not exclusively a symptom of Onondaga County, It's a symptom of the STATE. ( I will agree with you that Destiny USA is a money pit; I only use the parking lot to observe Eagles and other wildlife that are present on the lake. Anything that I said in my posts are from observations from whare I came from and where I've been. This region has offered me much more with less costs than anywhere else I have lived. The only other thing I can summise by your unfocused run-on sentance of a rant is that you may be an internet troll with an extremely pessimistic attitude. Good Luck on your future (if there is a future) endeavors.
