Do you feel the surge protection in the autoformer isn't enough? I like the Bluetooth aspect, but the autoformer is supposed to take the surge before the watch dog would even see it. I could understand installing the watchdog before the autoformer in hopes to not have to replace any autoformer components.?

The Autoformer and the Watchdog have the same surge components, so if the Autoformer takes a hit, call customer service and they will send you a new board. I prefer the Watchdog after the Autoformer, so I can see the boost from the Autoformer on the app. I also have a voltmeter inside, so I can watch without the app. Love the Hughes products. They have saved us a few times, so we are believers.

I'm currently plugged into my 30 amp at home. Whenever I walk away, my app disconnects. The dogs face is still white and working. Is this app only used in close proximity?

Yes, it connects via Bluetooth, so if you are far away, it loses connection.

@@RVThereYetTV since you’re baiting me… Your information on the Southwire unit that you removed is incorrect. I’ve been fully protected for quite a while but owners don’t need to start selling their current hardwired Southwire setups to buy a Chihuahua Device. The only thing I agree with is the use of the Hughes AutoFormer setup. It might have been best to explain in detail why you aren’t using the Chihuahua Device on the pedestal instead of being plugged directly into the Hughes because there’s a lot of people that buy that exact device and don’t understand the significance of a proper hardwired installation over plugging into that at the pedestal. They think that’s the smarter option and that it stops the issues there when it actually can cause some other issues if an owner has a cheap or old worn out main cord.
