Bini is managed by the biggest media company in the Philippines and they are promoted well. Alamat’s agency Viva is big too. I just hope they spend more on the group-concerts, radio play, promotion...because we don’t want talent like this just being enjoyed by a few. Apart from SB19, Alamat is one male PPop group that really represents the vocals-dance-visual diversity of the PH. Plus their concept alone naturally promotes Filipino culture. Thank you for reacting to Alamat! I wish for more opportunities for them to promote everywhere. 💚

FUN FACT: in their song "Dagundong" they were actually telling the whole history of the Philippines. Each verse represents a time when we where colonized and every chorus is them going to war First Verse - Spanish colonization Chorus- our ancestors fighting against them Second verse- Spanish settlement and their tyranny Chorus-the beginning of Philippine Revolution Third verse- we won against the Spaniards but plot twist, we were actually sold to America that's why they left Chorus- revolutionizing for the last time It's very fitting that they sounded angry. AND THEY MANAGED TO FIT EVERY SINGLE DETAIL IN A TWO AND A HALF MIN SONG!!!! I could go on and on to explain each lyric

You're wondering about their tagline "Alamat, handa 'rap" which means Alamat, about face. Their tagline came from what they say in the military - an order given to soldiers to tell them to turn around and face the other way. Seems like they(Alamat) order themselves to turn around to face their audience for us to see their singing and dancing skills.
@MVGB90Ай бұрын
"Handa 'rap" ('rap is contraction of "harap") is "Attention" or "Standing upright with an assertive and correct posture." "About-face" is actually the opposite, tumatalikod 'yan par, sa Tagalog ay "Tumalikod Na"

Alamat to me, is the quintessential Filipino idol group, made with a deep Filipino aesthetic: from ethnicity to costuming to lyrics (which are in multiple vernacular languages which are the native languages of the members). Their discography is the best, absolutely. Fun fact, the Maharani MV featured Bini's leader Joanna (she's the female lead). I can only hope these guys get Bini-level success. The Dagundong track and MV has the subject matter of colonialization and our resistance. (We were colonized by Spain for about 300 years, the United States by 40).

The traditional dance with the bamboo poles is called Singkil. it is an ethnic dance of the Philippines that has its origins in the Maranao people, a Mindanao Muslim ethnolinguistic group. The dance is widely recognized today as the royal dance of a prince and a princess weaving in and out of crisscrossed bamboo poles clapped in syncopated rhythm, it definitely fits the concept of the song! Also the girl in the Maharani MV is Jhoanna from BINI ❤

Their tagline “Alamat, handa ‘rap!” As then English sub said is Alamat, about face. “Handa ‘rap” (long form handa harap) is a military marching/stance command in Tagalog. Much like what you’d hear in western military as “platoon, about face!” But I think it’s also intentionally picked because handa means ready (as in get ready) followed by the word rap sounds like rap like rapping.

The traditional dances in the Maharani video: 1. “Singkil” is a story of a princess lost in a forest. The bamboo is the forest and there’s an earthquake caused by the spirits that trapped her. 2. “Tinikling” is a rural dance and most common traditional Filipino dance. The dancers are birds and the bamboo clappers are farmers trying to catch the birds. I am Filipino American, and I learned these dances during college, so it was very nice to watch. It’s my first time seeing this group, and it was a great first impression. Thank you for introducing me to them~

their intro chant, Alamat, about face, is a whole concept of soldier of in this case of alamat traditional filipino soldiers, like when soldiers says Attention, about face! something like that.
@luwirap2 ай бұрын
Actually, "About-Face" in military means turning into 180 position of attention. :D it's like Alamat is saying you to turn and face them after looking far at something. But it can also means "Ready... Rap!" because in tagalog "Handa" means prepare or ready... About your question regarding the bamboo sticks, yes, that was an ethnic traditional dance called "Singkil" (sing-keel), where they slam and clap the bamboo in tune with the music's beat and the dancers will dance around the bamboo by stepping in it without their feet being caught in the middle of the clapping sticks. Singkil is traditionally danced in southern Philippines because in northern areas, they also have a variation called "Tinikling" (Tee-nick-ling) which is also the unofficial national dance of the Philippines. Alamat means "LEGEND" and this group really loves tapping on cultural side of the Philippines by combining modern and traditional sound, art and fashion! I love this group so much!

Their songs blend different Philippine languages and dialects in a really cool way. It's not just all Tagalog; they mix in regional languages too. And you're totally right about their easy-listening style. It's modern meets traditional, so those unfamiliar instruments in the background are actually traditional Filipino ones. Their outfits are also a mix of modern and traditional, with beautiful fabric patterns. You should definitely check out "Gayuma," "Aswang," and "Manila Dreams." Alamat's agency, Viva, is actually one of the biggest and oldest entertainment agencies here in the Philippines. They manage some of the biggest names in the industry from actors to singers. Alamat is like the 2nd gen (i think) idol group they produced in tandem with Ninuno media. They don't really have a great record in handdling idol groups and so far Alamat has been the most successful one yet. Alamat used to be 9 members, but some left for personal reasons. That chant: "Alamat, handa, (ha)rap [alamat, about face]" is their actually also their group introduction. It's just similar to the soldiers' call for platoon attention. Do checkout also the live performances from the boys. Oh they also sound better live as always with out ppop groups. Checkout their wish bus perfs. Top of the list is Ily-ily
